  • A fine afternoon for grandmother & granddaughter

by BabaYaga on 1/17/12The Mahaffey - St PetersburgRating: 4 out of 5

Both granddaughter and I were well entertained. She, at nine years old, sat quietly engrossed in the activity on stage, becoming restless only during the break between acts 3 and 4.(As did I.) We talked about the skills of the dancers and the way the story was made very clear through dance all the way home. She re=told the story to her mother and brother and said she would like to see another ballet in the future. I totally agree that the dancers were highly skilled. I was pleasantly surprised to see the costumes were Grade A and apparently quite new, which is not always the case with Russian touring groups. Additionally, I very much appreciated being able to attend this type of event as a matinee.

  • Breathtaking!

We saw Swan Lake in St. Petersburg, Russia over the summer and couldn't wait to see it here as well. The production was absolutely amazing...beautiful...and can't wait to see another production!

  • Swan Lake was incredible

by Anonymous on 1/11/12Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center - Punta GordaRating: 5 out of 5

Everything about this presentation was wonderful -- EXCEPT the venue. The "auditorium" was a convention center with no raised or graduated seating except in the very back. If the stage had been a couple of feet higher, people could have seen the footwork fine, but as it was everyone was standing, bouncing up and down and shifting just to see the dancing let alone the footwork. I would never go back to that venue for ANY performance even if it was free. I am not the only disgusted patron - everyone I talked to or overheard talking was complaining about the seating. Bad press for Punta Gorda. Patriot.

  • Swan Lake flies high!

My wife and I were both shocked at how truly amazing this show really was. I had been to the ballet before; my parents took me to see "The Nutcracker" growing up but for my wife, this was her first time. I must admit that when I was the age at which I was when I saw "The Nutcracker" I couldn't have appreciated it on the same plane as I did "Swan Lake" the other night. We are both "Dancing with the Stars" fans and have grown to love the "Macy's Stars of Dance" presentations on the various results programs and any excerpt from "Swan Lake" would have been equally entertaining. We could have gone to the circus the same night. In hindsight, we are very glad with our choice to go to the ballet. It was a wonderful experience!

The Swan Lake ballet performance was stunning. Almost mesmerizing as the dancers flowed around the stage. One could almost envision swans because the choreography was so precise. What a wonderful evening!

The dancers were excellent, unfortunately the Convention Center was not designed for this type of performance. Only the people in the front few rows, or in the far back on the risers could see anything below the dancers knees. When watching ballet, being able to see the feet is paramount.

Beautiful ballet. Well known story line so easy to follow. LOVED the scenes when the swans came out! Beautiful story performed with amazing execution.

The Ballet was wonderful; however, the Punta Gorda, FL conference center where the ballet was held on 1/7/12 is not theater-style whereby the seats and aisles are graduated; therefore viewing the footwork of the ballet was almost impossible unless you were seated in the first few rows. Many others had the same complaint.

  • Dancing was fair, venue was terrible

by no1name on 1/9/12Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center - Punta GordaRating: 1 out of 5

the dancing was fair, but certainly lacked any real wow factor, the sets decent, the music was fine, the venue for visiblility was atrocious, the parking impossible

  • Swan Lake is a great ballet, a real classic

by Wojt on 1/9/12Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center - Punta GordaRating: 5 out of 5

No one dances like the Russians. The acting was wonderful, the story easy to follow. It includes a variety of dances, some based on Russian folk music. The lead dancers were precise in their movements. One of the downers was that they used canned music. It would have been much better with a live orchestra. Scenery ok, costumes very nice.

  • Swan Lake No Wet Blanket

by minganan on 1/9/12Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center - Punta GordaRating: 4 out of 5

For an incredibly enchanting evening, Swan Lake at the Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center was brilliant. The scenery was A-1, the dancers - stupendous. The ballet rivaled some of the best I've seen. I certainly hope that CHE&CC will add more cultural events such as this to its venue. Bravo, I loved, loved, loved it!!!! My only criticism is that the seats in the Conference Center are on a flat floor making it difficult to see the lower part of the stage, especially if you have someone a little taller sitting in front of you. I realize they can't replicate incrementally raised theater seating as it is an exhibition hall, but perhaps if the stage were raised a foot or two, viewing might be easier.

I guess it was an amazing performance ! I guess because it was impossible to see the feet of the ballet due to the seats beeing all on one level in the Charlotte Event Center. This location is not suited for dance performances unless they install monitors !!!

The ballet was good, what I could see of it. The venue for the ballet was terrible. It was not a theater so no theater seats & hardly anyone I spoke to could see over the head of the person ahead of them. I would never go to a theater event at the Charlotte Event Center again.

It was hard to follow along because we had no programs. Also, for the price I paid, I expected a lot more. I have been to see other professional productions for half the price, and I received a program and had a better seat. The production itself was good, but it was rather short. Overall, it was not worth the money I spent.
