  • Ballet good seating bad.

by Rob on 3/31/25Shreveport Municipal Memorial Auditorium - ShreveportRating: 3 out of 5

The ballet was enjoyable. The floor seats were terrible. Paid to have front row seats and could only see the ballerinas from the thigh up. Had to move to an empty seat in the next level up after the intermission.

  • Perfect performance, less than perfect venue

by ChrisB on 3/5/25The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami BeachRating: 4 out of 5

What talent! The Ballerina’s were amazing and the performance itself was brilliant. Thank you to the very talented State Ballet theatre of Ukraine. The venue, The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater, was less than perfect and very unorganised. There weren’t any announcements prior to the performance start and intermission. No pre performance announcement re etiquette therefore constant mobile phone ringing during both sessions. The seating closest to the orchestra and stage provided little elevation so the people with the most expensive tickets had poor vision of the stage. There was a constant stream of people moving to vacant seating during the performance. The price of drinks served at the venue was extortionate.

  • Swan Lake was cold

by Mathias on 3/4/25The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami BeachRating: 3 out of 5

Dancing was beautiful. The orchestra cast could have been a bit fuller and extensive. The music therefore sounded a bit muted. The venue was not great. The Fillmore theater is a bit rundown and misses the grandeur for such a ballet production. It was also incredibly cold. The bar during intermission had only bag of chips as snacks and they were quickly sold out. All in all this ballet company deserved a better venue and more immersing orchestra.

  • Excellent Show—not great venue

by TheCeHi on 3/4/25The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami BeachRating: 3 out of 5

The ballet was beautiful and the orchestra was excellent. The venue was sub par. The rows were so narrow you couldn’t even pass. The floor was not slanted which meant the the person two rows in front of you blocked your view even though the seats were staggered row by row. I would not attend another show at Jackie Gleason unless I sat at seats by the rails without a person in front of me

  • Beautiful and magical experience

Absolutely loved the performance. The jester was fantastic! The entire ballet was so well done and moving. Definitely recommend!!

  • Ukrainian Dancers Defy The Laws of Gravity and Motion

by Larry B. on 2/26/25Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 5 out of 5

When I think of going to a concert with my wife, normally it’s for one of our favorite musicians. Ballet is usually not high on the list. But a happy wife is a happy life. Oksana wanted to see people from Ukraine in a happy situation. February 22nd marked the third year of tears with Putin’s greedy invasion of my wife’s homeland, Ukraine. My wife, Oksana Gruszka, is a child prodigy artist born in Ternopil, Ukraine. I found affordable seats in the orchestra center and it was date night at the ballet. “You never take me anywhere” was shelved for one day. Our gallery in Savannah City Market, was just a few blocks from the venue at Savannah’s Civic Center. We literally just walked to the event, no bother with parking. Saturday had been a day in hell. I gave Oksana the day off to find the right outfit. I had prepaid for her manicure. Food in the frig. I couldn’t control her chipping several nails after the salon appointment, but I got her back in for gel nails. Did they have to play a Russian song on the YouTube? I’m sure that was absolutely planned by the Russian media defense department. I had no sales in the gallery. Only a miracle could save our marriage at this point. The weather was comfortably cool for our four block walk. It helped both of our moods. Oksana was dressed in her native Ukrainian best with hand stitched beadwork. We passed the bus for the performers and you could hear her native Ukrainian tongue. Oksana smiled and excitedly conversed with a stranger in her native Ukrainian. The line to get in went very fast and I didn’t even have time to pull up my digital tickets. The kind staff came to my aide before the good mood could sour. Now we had hold-in-your-hands real tickets! The perfect memento. We found our seats. Way better than most of our acquaintances who paid about the same. “Can you get me a glass of wine?” “Of course.” I made it back in time for the opening scene. Oksana was smiling broadly! The magic from her country was enchanting us all. Beautiful, colorful costumes. It was like being a time traveler eavesdropping on the beautiful grand past. The little girl in Oksana was in heaven! Then the dancers started showing off for the other dancers. The audience was not important. They were performing for each other. Half of the group were not stretching in the back stage eaves, they were sitting on either side of the huge stage with perfect posture like rigid members of a royal court. The audience on stage was choreographed to be fluid and static at times to focus our attention. Most everyone on stage was so cultured and poised, but a few characters stood out with colorful costumes. A court jester and the jealous black swan were comic relief and sources of tension throughout the performance. Interestingly, these secondary characters stole the show! No words to translate. No boring opera singing in some strange language. This was dance at its highest level. The entire performance was scene after colorful scene with the performers on stage performing to impress the other performers! Graceful jumps and kicks that could only come from a lifetime’s practice were one after another. It was like a movie with some digital effects, the dancers could jump twice their height. They could slow down time and leap across the stage in slow motion It was amazing with the level of skill, but even more so with the synchronization of the dancer’s movements. Timing was insanely accurate! We have our professional team cheerleaders, but this wasn’t an impressive five minute high kick routine, this was the whole game in competitive dance! Bravo! I heard the mom from Argentina and her wide eyes little girl shout “Brava!” Later we found out this is the feminine version of “Bravo!” It’s customary when a performer is pushing the limits of human ability to shout out encouragement. When the tiny foreign dancer is doing a pirouette and spinning herself like a human top more than a dozen times in a row, it’s an Olympic Games performance in front of you! She might not understand “Go! Go!” But the entire world has adopted the French exclamation “Brava! Brava!” Go see the Ukrainian ballet. Bring the little girl who sits beside you for a night of magic. Glory to Ukraine. Glory to her heroes!

  • Wonderful ballet

by Joannie on 2/25/25Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great dance performance. From the costumes to the arm movements to resemble swan’s, it was fantastic!

  • Talented performers, rude audience

by Dalyah on 2/25/25Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 4 out of 5

The performance was excellent. There were a few cultural differences (Ukranian ballet troupe), but it did not take away from the performance itself. However, the audience members (lots!) who were late, were allowed to walk to their seats after the performance had started. This, of course, blocked the view for those of us who know how to manage our time and were seated before the ballet began. It must be a distraction for the dancers, too. Latecomers should be asked to wait to be seated until a scene change, or only taken one party at a time to be seated. I didn't pay to watch the backs of people walking down a dark aisle or have flashlights in my eyes because someone couldn't care to be seated before it went lights-down. Rude.

  • Fun, magical performance

by Ash on 2/4/25UTEP Magoffin Auditorium - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

Nylia did such an amazing job putting this performance together! I had to much fun watching everyone. Everyone is so talented and have such exceptional skills. The costumes, the scenery, the acting and of course the dances were all so beautifully curated and it really shows. It was truly a fun and magical experience.

  • Great Ballet

by Ken on 2/4/25UTEP Magoffin Auditorium - El PasoRating: 4 out of 5

The Swan Lake performance at Maggofin Auditorium was excellent. The prima ballerina was 1st class and the supporting cast were good as well. My wife got a charge out of the little ones. The only downside was the traffic on I-10. It took almost two hours to go 50 miles. I think the west side of El Paso area has been under construction for about a century. No excuse for a disruption this significant and this long.

  • An Inspiring Performance

by Vince on 1/25/25New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The performance of Swan Lake by the State Ballet Theatre of Ukraine was awesome. Given what the company is going through with the invasion of their their country, their interpretation of this classic ballet by the great Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky was inspiring. We thoroughly enjoyed it and wish them continued success on their tour of the U.S.

  • Amazing with one complaint

by JF on 1/24/25New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was absolutely amazing from beginning to end. However, expect to be interrupted by people showing up from 5 to 20 minutes late. I have no idea why NJPAC allows people to show up late and interrupting the show. This is a big NO NO!

This was our first ballet and it was amazing ! All the performers were really good, but obviously Prima Ballerina was superb ! She was pure joy to watch, wonderful flow thru air, with so much grace ! Choreography was very pretty and did make you feel as being there and participating. • Such talent!

by JoyH on 1/9/25Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5

Attending Swan Lake was a breathtaking experience filled with awe-inspiring precision and talent. The dancers moved with such grace, creating a magical and ethereal atmosphere that truly transported the audience into the enchanted world of the ballet. The choreography, paired with Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, was executed flawlessly. It was clear that every movement had been carefully crafted, and the dedication of the performers shone brightly throughout the evening. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by the disruptive behavior of the audience members seated in front of us. They chatted throughout the performance, which detracted from the otherwise immersive experience. Additionally, their constant movements made it difficult to see the stage at times, further diminishing our ability to fully appreciate the performance. Despite these distractions, the ballet itself was nothing short of magical, and the talent on display was absolutely unforgettable. If not for the interruptions, the evening would have been perfect. Swan Lake is a must-see for any ballet enthusiast or newcomer to the art form.
