About

SUZANNE VEGA IN CONCERT:

In the late '80s, singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega carved a small but potent niche for herself with a relaxed, poetic brand of alt-pop. Nuanced, witty songs like "Tom's Diner" and "Luka" drew heavily on folk traditions, earning her popularity in alternative circles that she continues to enjoy today. A humble, genuine performer, Vega's soothing voice and smart songwriting will be front and center as she embarks on a 2014 tour in support of her eighth studio album Tales from the Real of the Queen of Pentacles.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

LA-born, New York-raised Suzanne Vega was a precocious young talent, beginning to write poetry at age nine and penning her first song by age 14. While majoring in literature at Bard College, she frequently traveled to Manhattan to perform in small venues and participate in the songwriter cooperative Fast Folk. She became one of the first artists from the Fast Folk family to make it big when she landed a major label contract in 1984, releasing her self-titled debut a year later. The album was a critical and commercial success, setting the stage for a string of acclaimed releases that included Solitude Standing (1987) and Days of Open Hand (1990). On the road in 2014 in support of her eighth album, fans can expect to hear some much-awaited new material alongside favorites like "Tom's Diner" and "In Liverpool."

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Suzanne is an amazing performer; she is so personable and comfortable with her audience. I almost felt like she was in my living room. Her voice continues to be strong and unique; she hasn't aged at all.”

"Suzanne has definitely got stamina...she took no breaks, her voice was remarkable, and her story-telling added to the enjoyment. She gave a walk down memory lane encore (Luka, Tom's Diner, Calypso, + one other) and played the guitar with energy."

"Incredible show. Once again Suzanne Vega impressed with her simple poetic lyrics and quirky folk/rock/pop. Her guitarist is amazing!"

Suzanne Vega is one of the most talented singers/writers on the face of the earth! Her voice has not changed one bit in 25 years; sultry as ever. Great setlist, she is funny as heck too! Cant wait to see her again!

Suzanne Vega at Rochester's Presentation Hall

by Gloomster on 4/23/10Mayo Civic Center Presentation Hall - Rochester

Suzanne Vega delivered another memorable performance at Rochester, Minnesota's Presentation Hall. For a cramped and aged space, the sound and effect of Suzanne's efforts were heart-warming, as always. Her set was a well-chosen blend of songs from her 25 years of releases, though her stories between pieces shared sources from even deeper in her history. Suzanne comes off as warm, open and interested in her audience. Her cool, crisp delivery of lyrics is a treat for any longtime fan, and those seeing her for the first time.

Suzanne's music will be always in my mind

by listeningear on 4/23/10Mayo Civic Center Presentation Hall - Rochester

Suzanne's music is very personal and great concert with two guitarists playing next to her along side. She makes the music make you feel that you are walking along side of her as she's telling the story of her life and thoughts.

    Suzanne was terrific

    by MzQ2 on 3/6/10Aladdin Theater - Portland

This was a terrific performance. The acoustics of the Aladdin were wonderful, her backup most talented, and remixes done very well. She seemed personable, approachable, and real and was most accommodating when she signed autographs after the show. Her rapport with the Portland audience seemed genuine and engaging. I only wish she had more new material as well!! Thank you Suzanne, for a great evening.

Suzanne Vega still rocks (and UCSD Loft is great!)

by LizzyO on 2/18/10UCSD The Loft - La Jolla

What a great space for an intimate concert of new and old music by the inimitable Suzanne Vega! Every seat in UCSD's new Loft space above the Price Center was great. The wine bar has an extensive selection of beverages, and you can even get snacks or full meals. (I simply had a brownie for dessert--delicious and fresh!) I would definitely recommend both Suzanne Vega for her luscious and unique voice and intriguing lyrics, and the Loft. I expect almost any concert would be great there.

Suzanne Vega in your living room

by 50yearoldrocker on 2/17/10UCSD The Loft - La Jolla

I've seen Suzanne a couple of times and this concert was really nice. My first time at The Loft and it's small. It feels like you're in your living room and all your friends are over for some great music. Suzanne was great as always with just a guitar and bass player to back her up. Lots of great songs and a front row seat. You can't beat that!

    suzanne is the real deal

by wannabecritic on 2/17/10UCSD The Loft - La Jolla

Great music, great lyrics, great venue. I had never been to the Loft before, and enjoyed my glass of Carmenere and macaroon. Suzanne's husband Mike plays a mean bass; her guitar pal the Dubliner has an unusual style that works well with Suzanne's songs, but they weren't always together. I wondered if this was partly because of the way they were situated far apart on stage, where they couldn't really see each other? At any rate, Suzanne took center stage and I would have loved to hear another 30-60 minutes of her performing, with or without the backup dudes. A lifetime experience, I feel very lucky that we were able to get tickets to see this.

    Suzanne Vega was awesome!

by ctsm8 on 2/17/10UCSD The Loft - La Jolla

One of the best live performances I've ever heard! She sounds even better live, than she does on her cd's. What incredible talent...and The Loft at UCSD is a fabulous venue! Didn't know it existed until last night! We all had a blast!

    Thanks for coming Suzanne!

by crazybassKEL on 8/25/09Kimo Theatre - Albuquerque

I was SO happy to see Suzanne Vega in Albuquerque! What a great show it was. She played some classics like 'Luka', and even the remix of 'Tom's Diner' with just bass and electic guitar covering the beats and sounds. I even got my ticket stub signed by her after the show and thanked her for coming. Everyone else left almost immediately afterwards and missed her coming out, it was only like another 10min after the show she came out. Anyways, had a blast and looking forward to the next show of hers!

    Always Great!

    by ScubaSteve2 on 8/22/09Kimo Theatre - Albuquerque

Suzanne is as great a singer as she was the first time I saw her nearly 20 years ago! She is an incredible guitarist as is her electric guitarist and bass player! But what I love about her the most is her creativity in song writting! The KIMO is a great place as it has really good accoustics!
