About

Alone in the dark, with little more than her celluloid memories, Norma Desmond remains what she has always been — the greatest star of all.

This spring, she will reclaim the spotlight once more.

Glenn Close returns to Broadway in the tour de force performance that earned her the Tony Award for Best Actress – and a place in Broadway history – in Sunset Boulevard.

Featuring a 40-piece orchestra, the largest in Broadway history, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award®-winning masterwork of dreams and desire in the land called Hollywood comes to the Palace Theatre for a limited engagement following a sold out run in London’s West End.

“ONE OF THE GREAT STAGE PERFORMANCES OF THIS CENTURY! YOU HAVE TO – AND I MEAN HAVE TO – SEE IT IN PERSON!”  -  Ben Brantley, The New York Times

“WITH ONE LOOK GLENN CLOSE BRINGS DOWN THE HOUSE!   A performance gutsier and more gripping than ever.  IT LEAVES YOU THUNDERSTRUCK.  Your heart somehow sinks and beats faster all at once.” -Peter Marks, The Washington Post

“THE APPLAUSE ECHOES LONG AFTER THE CURTAIN FALLS!” – Entertainment Weekly

Final show of the run was magic. Flowers, speech by Glenn Close and Andrew Lloyd Weber joining at the bows. Audience was electric.

Except it closed. So it is hard to recommend. But if it was still running I would recommend and also go for my third time.

    Ugh

Typical ALW, a pale shadow of the great original film. Overblown and unaffecting.

    SPECTACULAR

This was the best performance I've ever seen in my life. Glenn Close was incredible. The man who played Joe Gillis was also fabulous. I'm sorry that no one else will be able to see it!

    No shade on Sunset Blvd!

by PineCurtain on 6/26/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

Easy to see why Close took a Tony for her performance, and it's even more deserved now. Weber's score is haunting in the hands of this orchestra. Excellent performance!

    Sunset Boulevard

Really fun packed house with Glenn Close and all the talented actors in Sunset Boulevard. Would gladly return. The 40 plus piece orchestra an added treat. MEZZ seating a must if you want to see the orchestra...and the female conductor is a real gem. You will not be disappointed by the performance.

    Unforgettable Experience

by Anonymous on 6/24/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

My husband, 12-year old and I all truly enjoyed this spectacular show. That tells you it's good, if it can speak to multiple generations. This show makes me want to watch the two films, and we plan to. Glenn Close was amazing, with her range, and her incredible singing voice. She looked spectacular for a 70 year old, playing a 50 year old Norma Desmond. This was such a great plot, and again, even my 12-year old could comprehend it, and the manipulation seen by the major character. The supporting actors were on point with their singing, choreography, and with the costuming they displayed. I'd highly recommend this show.

    Afternoon paly

by CrowJean on 6/24/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

I have seen Sunset Blvd before many years ago and loved it that was the reason to treat my daughter to see the play. My main objection is having the orchestra on stage, I felt it was a distraction. Don't know in 1995 they were on stage. The sets were minimal, I thought in 1995 they were better. Giving you a sense of being in her home. Glenn was amazing and also Michael Xavier, Fred Johanson . Don't remember ever seeing a standing ovation in the middle of a play, in which Ms Close was very happy to see as she stood there for a minute or two. All in all another wonderful afternoon at the theatre

    Beyond incredible!!!!

by jonahdan53 on 6/24/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

This had to be one of the greatest experiences in the theatre. For more than 30 years, I only have heard tales of standing ovations in the middle of the show. I experienced it first hand with this production of Sunset Boulevard. I had seen the show several times in its first incarnation on Broadway and almost decided to pass this time around. What a fool I was. This was superior in every way. The staging was ingenious, appealed to your imagination, transported you back to a time that most of us could only read about. And to cap it off, a glorious, stellar, incredible performance from Glenn Close. This is a show superior to the reviews it has gotten and one I am unlikely to experience ever again. thank you.

Worth Every Penny and Then Some

by BradleyFLA on 6/24/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

This is a great production with a perfect cast. Glenn Close is awesome back in this role and is surrounded by really talented actors. Missing the jaw-dropping (but incredibly expensive) mansion set from the original run, but the creative staging and pace of the show allow you to easily forgot about it and enjoy the ride. Wish it was running indefinitely as I would return for more.

    Sunset Blvd

by Catharine1919 on 6/24/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

Seats in the Palace Theatre were ridiculously cramped and uncomfortable in the mezzanine. There were only 3 stalls in the ladies room on the mezzanine. The orchestra was wonderful, the singers were very talented, but the story line was mundane (husband slept through the first half hour). Scenery was average.
