About

Alone in the dark, with little more than her celluloid memories, Norma Desmond remains what she has always been — the greatest star of all.

This spring, she will reclaim the spotlight once more.

Glenn Close returns to Broadway in the tour de force performance that earned her the Tony Award for Best Actress – and a place in Broadway history – in Sunset Boulevard.

Featuring a 40-piece orchestra, the largest in Broadway history, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award®-winning masterwork of dreams and desire in the land called Hollywood comes to the Palace Theatre for a limited engagement following a sold out run in London’s West End.

“ONE OF THE GREAT STAGE PERFORMANCES OF THIS CENTURY! YOU HAVE TO – AND I MEAN HAVE TO – SEE IT IN PERSON!”  -  Ben Brantley, The New York Times

“WITH ONE LOOK GLENN CLOSE BRINGS DOWN THE HOUSE!   A performance gutsier and more gripping than ever.  IT LEAVES YOU THUNDERSTRUCK.  Your heart somehow sinks and beats faster all at once.” -Peter Marks, The Washington Post

“THE APPLAUSE ECHOES LONG AFTER THE CURTAIN FALLS!” – Entertainment Weekly

Run, don’t walk, to see this!

by Ovation246 on 2/12/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

I was fortunate to get tickets for opening night. What an experience -- one i know I, and I’m sure my friends, will never forget. Adjectives I would use: unforgettable, phenomenal, amazing. The energy in the theater was so high. You could just feel the excitement. And when Glenn Close started down the stairs in her first scene, the audience erupted in applause and the show kicked into high gear. She is simply amazing in this role -- it’s like it was created just for her. Of course the rest of the cast was great but to see Ms. Close as Norma Desmond -- it’s one of those things that shouldn’t be passed up. The orchestra sounded great and I loved how it was on stage and the set worked around it. This was the first time I had seen the play. My litmus test for a good musical is if I can walk out humming at least one song. This more than passed. I still can’t get “With One Look” out of my head. The music is beautiful and the lyrics are so poignant and clever. And then of course there was “As If We Never Said Goodbye”. That was a showstopper. The curtain call was wonderful, with all of the key players involved (including Andrew Lloyd Webber) joining the cast on stage. It was so moving. I’m actually contemplating going again before the run ends. It was THAT good! I hope they remake the movie (with Glenn Close in it of course) -- that would be wonderful and I’ll be among the first to see it....however nothing will compare to seeing the performance live.

Oh, Norma Desmond comes to life

by onlyhalf on 2/11/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

Noone from today's palette of talented actors can portray Norma Desmond as Glenn Close can. She transformed the stage and took us back, scene by scene, into the Era of the silent movies, glamorous Hollywood and the mental breakdown of a lonely heart wanting to come back to her glorious days, begging to be loved. Combined with the music of Andew Lloyd Webber, I was weeping for her. God Bless Broadway

    BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL

by JimC989 on 2/11/17Palace Theatre - New York

Saw the original production of Sunset Blvd over 22 years ago on Broadway with Glenn Close and didn't imagine it was possible all these years later (and without that spectacular set) to create something that could match that theatrical experience. This production doesn't. It surpasses it. Glenn Close along with the rest of this stellar cast plays their roles in a much more human, vulnerable manner which makes the entire story much more relate able and relevant . This massive 40 piece orchestra (the largest on Broadway in over 50 years) brings to life one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's greatest scores that is worth the price of admission alone. Director Lonny Price has taken what was called a Masterpiece in 1994 and made it even better. Saw this production in its third preview and will certainly be seeing it again

It was like an amazing dream!

by RachiesMH on 2/11/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

Everyone flowed together wonderfully with each of their parts. The music sucks in your attention completely, and its easy to see all the hard work that was put into this. I could feel the energy spark in the air everytime Glenn Close sang. I absolutely adore her!

    Sunset Boulevard was sublime.

by Anonymous on 2/11/17Palace Theatre New York - New York

This production of Sunset Boulevard was a jewel upon the stage. The orchestral centerpiece provided excellent settings for each of the performers who in their turn complemented one another flawlessly. It makes one proud to think one was in the audience of Broadway History unfolding.
