About

She was a girl from Boston with a voice from heaven, who shot through the stars from gospel choir to dance floor diva. But what the world didn't know was how Donna Summer risked it all to break through barriers, becoming the icon of an era and the inspiration for every music diva who followed. With a score featuring more than 20 of Summer's classic hits including "Love to Love You Baby," "Bad Girls" and "Hot Stuff," this electric experience is a moving tribute to the voice of a generation.

It was my birthday and a great celebration with my two daughters and sister! We sang along and danced in our seats. We loved it! Marvelous performance!

    Ahh amazing!

    by S. P. on 2/26/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

One of the best I have ever seen!! The singing was spectacular and I literally had tears running down my face (and it was not sad). There is no intermission which was a brilliant strategy to not break the momentum (although you may want to limit your fluid intake). I wish it wasn’t a short run because I have told so many about it!

    Fantastic

by Jeanne on 2/26/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

The songs were sung to perfection. The seats were center balcony and we could see great. The 3 women who portrayed Donna during different times of her life were just wonderful and very talented. I grew up listening to the songs and it took me back hearing them again. I would definitely see tgis show again and recommend it for others to see.

    Extra Singers

    by M. on 2/25/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

While I thought the musical was fantastic, the three singers were amazing, my seats were perfect, there were three women behind me that chose to sing along with almost every song. Loudly. So instead of clearly hearing the people I paid to hear, I heard these three crazy women (who by the way, did NOT have good voices) they were also pounding to the beat. So, they kind of ruined the experience for me and my daughter. They were also swearing up a storm right before the event started, annoyed that people wanted to sit in the seats they paid for, but had to go in front of them to get there. They believed they should have come earlier. I would not have dared said anything to them, since this is how they were acting before it even started. Not sure why this type of behavior is allowed.

    Give Me More!!!

by Lovemyplays on 2/24/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Summer: The Donna Summer Musical was very enjoyable. Telling her story through music and dance was very well done---and the time flew by. I wanted to dance with them sooo bad.....but didn't want to be rude to the audience behind me! Because the portrayals were so compelling, before I knew it, I had been sitting watching for an hour and a half, and it didn't feel like it! Learned a great deal about her life......she was one of my favorite entertainers! Hope to see more great performances at the Nederlander, which is a beautiful venue also.

    Great Music, Not-So-Great Script

    by D. L. on 2/22/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

The music of Donna Summer was well-represented in "Summer: The Donna Summer Musical". All 3 actresses playing Summer (at different stages in her life) had strong singing the music in the show, including such hits as "Last Dance", "Hot Stuff", and "She Works Hard for the Money". The writing, directing, and acting didn't fare as well; in their attempt to stuff Summer's life experiences in to a one-act show, major events (e.g. abuse from her minister, suing Casablanca Records, physical abuse from a boyfriend) were touched on just enough to treat them in only a superficial way. But the music was very good, and that at least kept the audience entertained.

    by A.O. on 2/22/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

It was better than I expected! The songs were incorporated in a perfect way. Now let's talk about the singers! Fantastic job on all three of them. The older Donna really sounded like her. I would definitely see it again.

    Summer musical

by Glenview review on 2/19/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

The process of getting tickets was easy via ticketmaster. Kudos for the user friendly app. The concert was slow to begin but come the finale they rocked the house. I was hoping for a little more enthusiasm throughout the show but didn’t get it. It was fun, just not fabulous.
