About

She was a girl from Boston with a voice from heaven, who shot through the stars from gospel choir to dance floor diva. But what the world didn't know was how Donna Summer risked it all to break through barriers, becoming the icon of an era and the inspiration for every music diva who followed. With a score featuring more than 20 of Summer's classic hits including "Love to Love You Baby," "Bad Girls" and "Hot Stuff," this electric experience is a moving tribute to the voice of a generation.

    Lively & Electrifying

by JDub on 2/17/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

I was so excited to see the actors and actresses perform in this theatrical musical production of Donna Summer’s life! I chose the second day opening evening show and enjoyed the stage presence and energy of the touring performers as well as the lighting in the James Nederlander Theater in Chicago. My only complaint was not against the performance but the behavior of a group of women in Orchestra seating that had no regards for anyone else by standing up dancing and singing in a theater performance. This was not a concert and the mere fact they didn’t realize they were the only ones standing up being rude, inebriated and obnoxious but theater goers paid a lot of money to enjoy the show as well! The show was an hour and 40 minutes with no intermission so with these old women behavior cane the need to use the bathroom meaning they were in and out the aisle and row disrupting the rows in front of and behind them.

THE WORST MUSICAL I’VE EVER SEEN

by JDJerry on 2/16/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

As a product of the disco era and a great lover of Donna Summer, I had such high and unquestioned expectations for the musical, SUMMER. Yet, from beginning to end, it was a great disappointment. Most performance attendees seemed to be insulted by the social engineering and victimization messages in this musical lecture. In my time decades ago, Donna Summer was never thought of something of a victim from cradle to grave - only as a marvelous, iconic performer who, as it turns out, earned many, many millions of dollars and enjoyed great success as a performer. As a lifetime musical, theater and opera enthusiast, SUMMER greatly disappoints from a very prescient perspective.

    The Donna Summer Musical

by Shirley from Lockport on 2/16/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Our seats were great ... The performances by the three main women who portray Donna Summer were phenomenal. Outstanding voices! Lot's of heart and enthusiasm! However, the stage is a little light on set decoration...and I was a bit puzzled by the fact that most of the supporting players and dancers were female. Were no male dancers available? Just seemed odd... Music was good.... but the show needs some tweaking. It's not as polished as the Carole King or Gloria Estefan shows.

    Disco lives

by Tommy G on 2/16/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

This was a Valentine's Day gift for my side. We are both old enough to remember Disco and danced ur butts of to it as 20 somethings. The Donna Summers story is something we didn't really know but this production gave an excellent presentation of a BIG LIFE! A+

    Summer magic

by CD on 2/16/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

This show touched me, with reflections of my earlier days. The songs, the challenges, the successes, and the disappointments of the disco diva of all time, brought back my own life and lifestyle in the 70s, going to clubs, and dancing till the sun came up. This journey reminded me of the time when everyone was seeking new acceptance. We didn’t care about your beliefs, as much as your spirit back then. The VIBES that this show brought out, transformed me to the happiest era of my life.

    Mediocre

    by C. S. on 2/15/20James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Music was great the story line was pretty weak. The power went out which was no ones fault...they started back up in 20 min.
