About

STEVEN WILSON IN CONCERT:

From his days fronting beloved groups like Porcupine Tree and No-Man to his acclaimed recent solo work, prog rock veteran Steven Wilson has been a beacon of experimentation and innovation in British music. Wilson's extremely diverse musical past is ever-present on his fourth solo effort, 2015's Hand. Cannot. Erase., an ambitious concept album that features a staggering range of musical styles, instruments, and affects. The through line of both the album and Wilson's marathon live shows is his technical virtuosity and willingness to take risks, a quality that makes his epic performances supremely exciting affairs. From jaw-dropping solos and extended breakdowns to Wilson's signature barefooted stage moves, ticket buyers can expect an electrifying and unforgettable concert experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in suburban London, Steven Wilson traces his love of music back to the first LPs he received as a Christmas gift from his parents -- Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and Donna Summer's Love to Love You Baby. By 11 he was playing the guitar and experimenting with a multi-track tape machine and a vocoder built by his electronic engineer father. Wilson played in various prog and experimental groups during his teens, and in 1986 he started the two projects that would define his early success: No-Man, a rock and synthpop outfit and Porcupine Tree, an experimental psychedelic rock band. By 1990 No-Man was generating major buzz, landing several singles on Melody Maker's coveted Single of the Week list including a cover of Donovan's "Colours". At the same time, Wilson's more experimental work with Porcupine Tree was also gaining underground success with a series of extremely limited releases that remain coveted cult classics today. Wilson began releasing solo material in 2003, starting with a series of cover albums before releasing his official solo debut album Insurgentes in 2008. Since then he has released three more albums including 2015's highly anticipated Hand. Cannot. Erase, a critically acclaimed album collection that fans are eager to see performed live.

    Steven Wilson

by Fateswarning1070 on 11/23/16Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

concert was good but this venue is awful for sold out shows. Your basically pressed up to one another like a sardine. It's so uncomfortable. This club is okay for a unknown band to see but uncomfortable for any band that can draw in the people. This venue needs to change the stage setup and get rid of areas that are a waste of space. Overall, Steven wilson band was excellent but next time I might not go due to the size of this venue. I would recommend seeing steven wilson but not at this venue

A great show, not for this venue

by Tropicalprog on 11/23/16Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

Great show, great sound. Wilson and band in the best possible shape with an original and intelligent fusion of classic and modern progressive rock. I'd wish to see him again next time in another venue like Fillmore or Parker amphitheatre. Standing at a completely packed Culture Room is not the best way to enjoy a show like this.

    Intimate powerful show!

by Rabijunco on 11/23/16Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

Having seen SW in Mexico some time ago I knew I was in for a nice show. This exceeded my high expectations. Very intimate setting (cool venue!) and the music was superb.

    Steven Wilson

by Ptreefred on 11/23/16Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

The concert was good the sound was overpowering. The bass and drums drowned out the guitars and vocals. The room was over crowed, packed like sardine, bathroom was in accessible. Our tickets listed a row # and set #, but there was no seating.

Steven Wilson put on a great show. Awesome musicianship, fantastic tunes, a band that had it going on, performers that seemed to really enjoy being on stage. Memorable night!

One of the best c9ncerts I've ever attended

by ProgGod on 11/22/16State Theatre - St Petersburg

Aside that I'm a huge fan of the artist and that their performance was on point. The sound and visuals were amazing. Never heard State Theater sound so good. Always hear mix reviews from people about the sound at this venue. But on this particular night it the sound was fantastic. If anything maybe the overall volume was a tad too loud. Honorable mention to the opener (John Wesley) who didn't play with his band (due to limited space on stage). As a solo performer playing to recorded tracks, his music is amazing and is a great guitar player. Would love to see him play with the full band in the future.

    So Great

by ilovenewyork11 on 11/22/16State Theatre - St Petersburg

I've seen Steven Wilson many many times with Porcupine Tree and his own solo tours. The show was fantastic. He never disappoints but this particular night was special and really high energy. Seeing him live blows away his studio albums, and they are great.I feel sorry for people who have not been exposed to his music. He is a genius and the most talented artist of my time.

Steven Wilson delivers another amazing show!

by KatzMagic on 11/22/16State Theatre - St Petersburg

True to form, Steven Wilson and his talented band put on yet another fantastic show! I highly recommend seeing him even if you aren't already a fan. All that is required is that you appreciate incredible musicianship from an artist who continues to create some of the most interesting and "eargasmic" music in modern rock today. Highly recommend!!

    Steven Wilson did not disappoint!!

by DWF73 on 11/22/16Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Whether it is with Porcupine Tree or doing his solo work, Steven Wilson shows he has an outstanding musical mind. He opened his show with the entire Hand Cannot Erase album, which showcased the outstanding talents of all his band members. After a short break, they continued with a second set made up of Porcupine Tree material and more of his solo work. He closed out the show with a three song encore, which included a tribute to Prince. All in all, you could not ask for a better performance. If he comes back again, count me in.

The best I've seen Steven's play yet!!!!

by SkylabTapes on 11/22/16State Theatre - St Petersburg

And that's saying a lot! Not in love with this venue, although the surround area is very cool. But wow did Steven and company put on a SHOW. John Wesley's opening act was also excellent, and if I have one regret on the night, it's that John didn't join Steven for a song or two later. But Steven's performance was somehow even better than the prior two legs of this tour. I don't know how he does it. They must have performed this show over a hundred times by now. And yet this was the most powerful, dynamic performance yet. Just awesome.

    Steven Wilson will not disappoint!

by FrauHart on 11/22/16State Theatre - St Petersburg

Steven Wilson went on at 9 PM and played until 1 AM with a 15 minute break after the first set. It was clear that he truly cares for his fans. He and his bandmates put forth such energy into the performance. On several instances, Steven spoke to the audience and was not only entertaining but insightful as well. He is talented artist.

    Amazing!

by AlisonDForbes on 11/22/16Center Stage Theater - Atlanta

Absolutely incredible show! Steven Wilson is my favorite musician and he never disappoints during live shows. I've seen him with Porcupine Tree but this was my first time seeing any of his solo stuff live. Dave Kilminster, Craig Blundell, Nick Beggs and Richard Barbieri did an incredible job and worked wonderfully with Steven. (Nick Beggs was a lot of fun to watch with all his crazy dancing. He is so full of personality!) John Wesley did a wonderful pre show too.

    Steven Wilson

by AlanAtwood on 11/21/16Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

An unbelievable show! My wife and I drove up from Houston and it was worth the trip! Steve was very interactive with the audience. Much better than King Crimson in Nashville which featured Robert Fripp and hils oor attitude who hid behind his effects racks and didn't even join the band during the final curtain call. Tony Levin appeared embarrassed. Steven showed us how a great show is done!

    Steven Wilson Concert

by Mattyyyyyyyyyyy on 11/21/16State Theater - Tampa

A couple years ago, while listening to Pink Floyd/Rush stuff on Pandora, this group Porcupine Tree was introduced to me, and after hearing more and more of them, they quickly became my favorite group. If you like the first two above, just listen to Anesthetize, Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, Dark Matter, Time Flies, and more from Porcupine Tree, and you might find something new you also like. Technically brilliant, often dark, big changes in rhythm and chord, hard to get tired of. Made me wonder why I had never heard of them in 30 years of listening to music. Still wondering... Anyway, Saturday I got tickets to Steven Wilson, the leader of the old Porcupine Tree group, and it was one of the best concerts I've been to. If you're afraid of attending live concerts because the band just doesn't sound like their recording, fear not with Steven Wilson and his band. They are as good live as any recording you'll hear, ZERO mistakes, one of the best drummers ever, best keyboarder ever, both guitars the same, etc. etc., absolutely brilliant. If you like prog rock, give them a try, could add some excitement to your music library!

One of the best concerts I have ever been to

by harkonnen on 11/20/16Center Stage Theater - Atlanta

I may be a bit biased here, since I'm a huge Steve Wilson fan. However, this concert was really special as it had a bit of everything: complexity, roughness, joy, sadness, simplicity, class, poetry, visuals, art, musicianship and mastery. All in all, a masterpiece including a tribute to David Bowie and Prince, a bit about the joys of "miserable" music and a indictment of the general state of music today. It is also one of the few places where you can meet Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Yes fans mingling with metal heads and jazz aficionados. Old and young, hippies and classies, the hot and the ugly. Quite an eclectic and interesting mix if you asked me. Leaving in the suburbs, I didn't even know these people existed in Atlanta.
