About

STEVEN WILSON IN CONCERT:

From his days fronting beloved groups like Porcupine Tree and No-Man to his acclaimed recent solo work, prog rock veteran Steven Wilson has been a beacon of experimentation and innovation in British music. Wilson's extremely diverse musical past is ever-present on his fourth solo effort, 2015's Hand. Cannot. Erase., an ambitious concept album that features a staggering range of musical styles, instruments, and affects. The through line of both the album and Wilson's marathon live shows is his technical virtuosity and willingness to take risks, a quality that makes his epic performances supremely exciting affairs. From jaw-dropping solos and extended breakdowns to Wilson's signature barefooted stage moves, ticket buyers can expect an electrifying and unforgettable concert experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in suburban London, Steven Wilson traces his love of music back to the first LPs he received as a Christmas gift from his parents -- Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and Donna Summer's Love to Love You Baby. By 11 he was playing the guitar and experimenting with a multi-track tape machine and a vocoder built by his electronic engineer father. Wilson played in various prog and experimental groups during his teens, and in 1986 he started the two projects that would define his early success: No-Man, a rock and synthpop outfit and Porcupine Tree, an experimental psychedelic rock band. By 1990 No-Man was generating major buzz, landing several singles on Melody Maker's coveted Single of the Week list including a cover of Donovan's "Colours". At the same time, Wilson's more experimental work with Porcupine Tree was also gaining underground success with a series of extremely limited releases that remain coveted cult classics today. Wilson began releasing solo material in 2003, starting with a series of cover albums before releasing his official solo debut album Insurgentes in 2008. Since then he has released three more albums including 2015's highly anticipated Hand. Cannot. Erase, a critically acclaimed album collection that fans are eager to see performed live.

Amazing artist but the event could’ve been better

by aamir0 on 6/4/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Steven Wilson has always been an amazing artist, but the venue’s arrangement, sound quality, Steven’s song selection could’ve been made much better

    Steven Wilson Delivers The Goods

by ChrisBLindsley on 5/16/18House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

Great gig! The sound was clean and the HOB is a very intimate venue. I must say Steven Wilson knows how to put together an excellent setlist. It’s a mixture of pure pop with a healthy dose of heavy rock - just don’t call it “Prog”. His music is much than that. I’ve seen every Porcupine Tree and every solo SW tour in the past (including the previous nights’ show at the Wiltern in LA) and let me say that he never disappoints. Can’t wait for his next tour

Great show! Venue sound could've been better!

by Anonymous on 5/16/18House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

Steven is always great, and he knows how to put on a show for his fans! I wasn't completely satisfied with the overall mix of the sound in the room. The highs were a bit too shrill, especially when Craig went hard on the cymbals. I was wishing for a much tighter sound since I've heard so much about House of Blues

    Best Steven Wilson yet!

by crcnorider on 5/15/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

The set list was like his greatest hits. He performed for three hours including three encores. He was humorous and entertaining between songs. The stage lighting was creative and amazing. He is a must see. Hoping for a return performance next year.

    Steven Wilson Wiltern - Spectacular

by SuzyMix on 5/15/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Steven Wilson is a British Prog Rock artist who writes moody, depressing, melodic, heavy prog rock tunes that make you introspect. I loved this show as it showcased his versatility in styles. He included the new album, "To The Bone" that has a catchy pop song ("Permanating") that he acknowledges his hard-core fans do not like. The chorus to this song is reminiscent of ABBA, which is reportedly his favorite band. Shocking! True, it's a deviation from his usual moody stuff, but it's a great departure (according to me. But then again, I'm a hard-core Jellyfish fan). The fans were SO receptive and engaged! I was truly immersed in his music throughout the whole show. He incorporated film screens, intense lighting and a hologram screen that enabled Ninet Tayeb (the female vocals on some of his songs) to contribute to those recorded songs that she was on. After the first song, he asked the audience that we respectfully NOT record during the show. He said that it didn't bother him or the band, but the we could be sure that it would piss off the people behind us. All cell phone screens went black at that moment and never came back on again thought out the show. Loved it! This was a 3 hour gig. Well worth it. One of the best that I've been to. I've been to this venue twice before in the past 10 years (David Sylvian & Primus). It's a classy place and beautiful venue! This was such an amazing gig at one of my favorite artists of all time!

    Exceptional Show!

by Pacifist1 on 5/15/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Steven Wilson is a superb artist who surrounds himself with some of the best musicians, fantastic sound, and an immersive concert experience. Aside from amazing musicianship, he keeps things engaging with some new animation and video. We especially liked the novel use of the double curtain projections and holograms. Don't miss this show if you get the chance! Note - Although he is trying to reach a broader audience, progressive rock fans will still find plenty here to love. Several Porcupine Tree tunes included and the band does them justice! Expect to be on your feet for 3 + hours - Steven said in future he would try to avoid having seated shows!

    Still England's best kept secret

by tksndengnr on 5/15/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

The last thing I want to do is give an epic review for Steven's show. That's because I want him all to myself. That's what you do when you have an amazing artist that you want to see up close without the hassle of a big crowd in a big arena. But he is that good. He should be selling out big arenas on multiple nights as his artistry has appeal for all. Mainstream radio/TV/media for some reason skips over him. Simply put; he played for 3 hours & covered a wealth of material going well back into his PT catalog. The band was super tight & everyone sounded fantastic. If you get the chance, you must see him. Even if it means that the smaller venues go away. But I don't see the "mainstream" giving him that "break" anytime soon. I am at the point where I think he needs that break to happen as the music scene pretty much sucks for the most part right now.

Steve Wilson and band were fantastic!

by DDUBBS13 on 5/15/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Because of dealing with cancer and attendant Chemo, arrived just before concert. Since I had purchased VIP tickets, was unable to park in underground garage. But was treated well after parking in alternate lot, which was nearby. Staff was helpful and friendly, and after some musical chairs,my brother and I were upgraded to much better seats (which feeling weak, was much appreciated). The concert was spectacular!,as one would expect from Mr. Wilson and company. Nearly 3 hours long! Only small complaint, was told VIP lounge would be functional after concert. It wasn't (open but not serving). Overall though, was a great experience.

    What a Ride!

by Rockinjudge on 5/15/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Perhaps the greatest show you'll ever see. No one mixes up the music and the moods quite like Steven Wilson. At times crunchy, hard rock and at times cute pop, from melancholy to joyful, loud to soft, all played with perfect musicianship and complete sincerity. "There are only two kinds of music," says Steven, "music you like and music you don't like." So leave your music snobbery at home and go enjoy the most entertaining and moving three hours of music you will ever hear. And if you hear something you don't like, rest assured it's someone else's favorite. To me, it was all fabulous.

    Steven is a musical genius

by SirClinksalot on 5/15/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

And I don’t use that term lightly. You know you are if you ask an LA audience to put away their phones and enjoy the moment, and they actually listen. Steven should be way bigger than he is, but that just means his fans get to see him up close and personal and that’s just fine with us. It was 4 hours of one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to see him again.

    Excellent stage show

by SeniorChef on 5/14/18The Fillmore - San Francisco

My first Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree concert, and one to remember for a long time. Multimedia and sound were amazing. Was looking forward to Pariah and it was standout. Musicians are all on top of their game and the choice of songs was excellent, drawing from current album "To The Bone" and old Porcupine Tree favorites. Rightly a sell-out concert at The Fillmore, at San Francisco (Friday May 11). PS Steven - your '63 Tele rocks!

    SW @ The Fillmore

by PTFAN on 5/14/18The Fillmore - San Francisco

This concert was the first time, in my many years of attending concerts, that I went straight to the front. As it was a General Admission show, I headed straight to center stage and the rail. I was six feet away from Steven's mic. The experience and show did not disappoint. All the band members seemed excited to be doing what they do: smiles, eye contact. Loved the show. Made a couple new friends. This was a memorable experience!

Not knowing who this performer is, I went in with zero expectations. Throughout his performance I learned that Steven Wilson is from England and plays progressive rock music. And that he thinks Coldplay are wankers.* My friend that accompanied me told me that Steven Wilson performed the entirety of a new album and played a few singles from his early works, including some Porcupine Tree. Aside from the drunk in the crowd that claimed his girlfriend is the producer and threatened to throw a kid off the balcony for telling him to shut up during the music performance, it was pretty great! * = Steven mentioned during one of his earlier concerts that some one in the crowd held up a sign saying "Coldplay are Wankers" and he grabbed it from the audience member to show to the rest of the audience. Someone took a picture and was taken out-of-context since then.

    Fabulous...As Always

by Anonymous on 11/24/16Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

Another great show from one of the most talented persons in the music industry. Despite a compact venue...Steven and the boys performed superbly. The visuals weren't as effective as when I saw them perform in larger venues...but it doesn't really matter because it's all about his outstanding music. I wish more people would be aware of Steven Wilson.

    An amazing frontman.

by PlanksMomtho on 11/24/16Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

Honestly, the entire event was amazing. Loved the music, the band members, the audience, the lighting, everything! However, that doesn't mean I'm without some complaints. For starters, the place was packed. Other than that, I tried taking a call outside and was told I wouldn't be allowed back inside if I stepped out to be rid of the music. Also, no filming. Whilst strongly understandable, I was saddened (I deleted 54 GB of music just to record this gig!!).
