by rent4u2 on 8/15/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

I was by far the best concert of any Iowa State Fair Concert since Micheal W. Smith / Mercy Me a few years ago..... Steve Curtis Chapman.... Almost Brounght down the grandstand with Memorable hit DIVE....end of show..... I don't care how HOT the IOWA STATE FAIR Grandstand WAS it was VERY well worth it.....all the way thru until the finish of concert.... very emotional moment with Steven' discussion of his little girl Maria Sue Chapman passing May 2008..... WOW what a CONCERT 1-10 a least a 21 !!!! Rating...!!!!

  • Great way to start a fair!

by minnamel on 8/15/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

This was a wonderful concert. Jeremy Camp and his band were fantastic. The music was great and the light show they have is a nice touch. Steven Curtis Chapman and his band were also exceptional. He had a nice blend of some of his old and current songs. He also sang one of his new songs that has not been released yet. It was also nice to see two of Steven Curtis Chapman's sons playing in the band. All-in-all this was a great evening!

  • A fun time!

by Kaylie1 on 8/15/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the concert. It was my first time attending a concert at the Grandstands of the Iowa State Fair. The amp/bass seemed to be turned up wayyyy to high for Jeremy Camp, but considering the complications that come with acoustics in the great outdoors, it was fine. And, it did get better as the evening progressed. I would recommend that security/staff pay closer attention to those who are standing up/blocking the few of other groups. I had to mention it to one security gentleman. Once again, no biggie, just something to think about. All and all, thank you for bringing a Christian concert of this calibur to our neighborhood!

  • Honest and genuine.

by kgate88 on 8/15/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

Two men with pasts filled with brokenness came to Des Moines. They shared their music but what everyone remembered most was when they shared their hearts. Camp's wife died of cancer, crushing his "sand castle" world as he called it and making him realize that his life needed to be built on something stronger. Chapman poured his heart out, his pain ebbing over the edges of the stage and tugging at tears of concert-goers. His son, behind him playing drums, had accidentally run over and killed his daughter a year earlier. Though the two men had dealt with pain beyond what most of us will ever know they did not hold back, no what they gave us was anything but that. They shared their struggles and shortcomings and were real with the crowd. Although they both know that God is their provider, situations like these leave us all with questions and holes in our hearts. Their music was just an accent to their stories, an avenue for them to share and relate with us. Thanks for speaking to our hearts guys.

  • We loved the Christian Rock at the Fair!

by Laner on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Thank you so much to the Iowa State Fair for hosting a Christian Rock band. This was my first time at the fair, and it was an awesome way to kick it off for me. My husband and I had a great time; we didn't even notice the heat after the concert started. We hope there will be another great Christian concert next year.

  • Amazing Evening of Worship!

by BytheBook on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Jeremy Camp opened the concert with his energetic style and straight forward approach. This young man has shown a tremendous growth in his faith and in his music. The ever faithful and consistent sound of Steven Curtis Chapman continued into the evening. Joined by his two sons on percussion and guitar, Chapman revealed his heart when he shared how his family's life has been impacted at the tragic death of his five year old daughter. His song, Cinderella, was exceptionally moving. Both men shared their testimonies through word and song. Thousands attended the event. What an incredible evening of worship! What a way to open the Iowa State Fair!

  • One amazing concert

by lvncln on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Jeremy Camp was fantastic. He has an amazing gift and It was a blessing to get to see him perform in person. He was really able to get the crowd on their feet and fired up for the the main act. In my opinion, he could be the main act. Don't get me wrong, Steven Curtis Chapman did an outstanding job, but Jeremy Camp is no second rate band. Steven Curtis Chapman was equally increadible. Having his 2 sons there added something to the group dynamics as well. Thank You to the Iowa State Fair for having the Christian Rock concert kick off the Fair. I love it and attended it last year and will attend it every year you have this. The fireworks rocked as well!

  • Steven & Jeremy -My 2 favorite Christian Artists

by Burgy on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Are my two favorite artists with a great collection of very faith based songs. Everytime I listen to their songs , I see God and his awesomeness! Their lyrics are full of heart felt humbleness and lift God up in glory. Steven's new song that he sang about "Everything is your's God" just shows the depth of his love for God and our Savior Jesus Christ. I found myself with tears coming down my face as I took in the words and the realization of how great our God is. These guys know ,too! I was so glad that I got to go see my two favorites under one roof! Even though they have both been through some very hard times it was so neat to see those BIG smiles on their faces as they were able to be a part of spreading the GOOD NEWS-THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST! Thank you Steven and Jeremy, and keep running the race! I wish Steven would have had more time to sing a few of his other greats that I didn't get to hear at the concert ,but I did hear some on Life107.1 on my way home to Cedar Rapids until it faded out. Then I turned on my Ipod and listen to them some more. GOOOOOOOOD STUFF!!

  • Inspriring!

by FarmerCindy on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Both Jeremy Camp and Steven Curtis Chapman put on great performances. They chose crowd pleasing songs that were familiar and faith inspiring. Their personal testimonies were so humble and not "preachy." Don't miss this wonderful combination of performers!

  • Chapman and Camp were excellent!

by McGK on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

This was an amazing concert! I saw Steven Curtis Chapman at Women of Faith, and just had to see him again. Once again, I thought he was amazing! Jeremy Camp also did an awesome job! The testimonials they gave were very moving, and it was so awesome to see so many people gathered to praise and worship God!

  • An awesome night

by JanBe on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

The music we fantastic and Jeremy Camp was so good he just started it out so great, and kept the place rocking but never forgot that we were there to praise the Lord. We were intranced from the begining to the end. Stephan Cutis Chapman was great too but his band was a little to loud so you had a hard time hearing the words but he got the message through too and we all had a great time. Wonderful night dispite the heat.

  • Camp/Chapman was uplifting

by Opel on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Both performers shared the most recent events in their life and encouraged, prayed for and lifted the audience/congregation in worship. The grandstand held a huge crowd of appreciative people who joined in singing favorite songs. The most well-received of Chapman's songs was "Dive" but the tender-hearted "Cinderella" left its mark on every heart in the grandstand.

  • Steven Curtis Chapman & Jeremy Camp were Great!

by ChristianBandFan on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

I saw both Jeremy Camp & Steven Curtis Chapman at the Iowa State Fair. I wish they would have had the same set so we wouldn't have had to wait a 1/2 hour between groups. Both played their hits plus some new music. Both are great Christian artists!

  • This concert was AMAZING!!

by gellar06 on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

I am so glad that I decided to attend the oncert. I am a huge fan of both Jeremy Camp and Steven Curtis Chapman. They were both amazing live, and their music was a fantastic mix of old and new for both. They both got great audience reactions and were great performers to watch. Both also included some time of reflection on the bible and had great explanations for their songs. SCC also previewed on of his new songs from his next album. This had to have been the best concert I have ever been to!

  • Great music, great message, boring atmosphere

by Kayley on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 3 out of 5

The music was great. Both Steven and Jeremy had great lyrics, tunes, and messages to share. The accustics were okay (a little loud for my liking- sometimes you couldn't understand the words because it was just a big blast in your ear) and the lighting was alright (although I've seen more exciting, but you can't expect much from an outdoor/temporary stage). The problem was the crowd. Most likely because a majority of the crowd was over 40, not many people stood, clapped, or sang along. The energy wasn't at the level it should be for any concert.

  • Jeremy Camp and Stephen Curtis Chapman, Awesome!

by NotReallyMeButJesus on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

This was an outdoor concert held at the Iowa State Fair. It's not a huge venue, and even with our intermediate seats, we could still see expressions on the singers' faces, etc. There was a little too much bass, and drowned out the voices right at first, but got better as the concert progressed. Jeremy Camp opened reading Bible verses. His set lasted just over an hour, with very little to the performance except rocking gospel. Only a brief asides to the audience or introductions to the next song. US Cellular sponsored screens that the audience could text messages onto. It was fun to read these during the intermission. After 20-30 minutes to tear down Jeremy's stage, Stephen Curtis Chapman began his performance. There was more of a personal connection with the audience, as he related many of the events in his life from the past year. His performance lasted just over an hour as well, though he took longer to introduce each song. All in all, it was an excellent performance by both artists and their bands. I would recommend it to anyone. Praise be to Jesus!

  • Jeremy Camp ROCKED!!!

  • Fabulous

by Dibba on 8/14/09Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Stephen Curtis Chapman and Jeremy Camp stole my heart in so many ways - they were so very awesome and I so thoroughly enjoyed them and can't wait until they come back again! Stephen's Cinderella song I had never heard, made me cry and his story of his daughter Maria's traggic accident just broke my heart and I don't have any children of my own.
