Steve Earl and the Dukes has been on my bucket list for sometime! They did not disappoint what so ever!
Great show. Steve Earle and the Dukes took us through the musical inventory. He started with the blues from recent albums, moved to some of his classics and a little bluegrass. And then he finished up with some kick ass rock and roll. The Revolution Starts now was great. He also did a killer version of Hendrix's "Hey Joe" and the Troggs "Wild Thing" (he owned it, Add in a reggae infused version of Donovan's "First There is a Mountain." He added a new song tweaking Mississippi for the Confederate Flag. In short, it was one surprise after another. I gave it 4 stars but it was at least 4.5 No one left disappointed. He played for over 2 hours. And two members of the Dukes,, the Mastertons opened the show with a very nice set.
Wasn't planning on traveling to this part of the country but when I seen that Steve Earle was going to be playing I decided to change my plans on the spot. My wife has never reply heard a lot of his songs and she absolutely loved it. "It's time, Mississippi" will be a favorite of mine. Also, the husband and wife opening band were awesome!
I was kind of leery of going because I was not that big of a fan. Boy I was wrong, he rocked it out. I enjoyed every second and story he had to tell. His fans are crazy supportive and now Im a big one myself.
It was a good concert, I've seen them several times.
My wife and I drove 4 hours round trip to see Steve Earle's concert. His opening act played for 30-40 minutes, then he played for almost 2 hours. If they had just stuck to singing their songs, it would have been better. Both Steve & his opening act talked quite a bit between songs, and seemed to have trouble putting together a sentence without the F word. Then they decided to talk politics, with the opening act weighing in on our County Clerk & Steve promoting a socialist for President of the United States. Steve played lots of music from his new album, a blues recording. Like other reviews have said, the instruments were so loud it was very difficult to understand the lyrics. Overall, it would have been an OK show if they had just played their music and left it at that.
Steve Earle and the Dukes brought their old school road show to Lexington, Kentucky. It was refreshing to watch Mr. Earle's ability to humbly connect with his audience. The evening was an exhibition of musical talent teamed with sincere appreciation for fans!
Awesome show! Venue was great and the band was incredible!
This was on my bucket list for quite a while and I was not disappointed! Steve and the Dukes mostly played the latest record (which I thoroughly enjoy) along with Guitar Town and Copperhead Road stuck right in the middle of the set. Lots of energy and great musicians in the band. Chris Masterson wailed on the guitar and while his wife, Eleanor Whitmore looked as though she would rather have been anywhere else, her ridiculous skills on the violin were only overshadowed by her beautiful voice. The Pantages Theater is simply gorgeous and added to the overall experience. Don't wait; go see this show!
Great musicians, a nice variety of style Rick, blues acoustic.
They were great. No nonsense southern growl. I thought I was at a Mellenkamp, ZZ Top, Skynard, and Hendrix concert all at once. Would definitely see them again.
Music was great. Lots of songs. I wanna ask Deadwood Mountain Grand to do something about the cavern-like sound.
once again The sound technician (expert?) decided that he liked the guitars and drums to overpower the voices. This resulted in a garbled mess of a show in which you couldn't tell what the singers were singing! What a wreck! We left mid-show and I haven't done that in 20 some years!. As we were slipping out of our row of seats we discovered we were the only ones left in our row which was full at the start. Too bad the people writing the checks aren't listening to the sound!
The show was great. Steve Earle definitely gave us our money's worth. A good time, for sure !!
Steve Earle is simply an amazing songwriter and totally unpretentious performer. My first time seeing him, I was totally impressed by his natural presence and excellent band. The only negative to me was that he chose to do so much material from his new album which is focussed on the blues. He did it quite well but I think the blues structure limits him lyrically. I didn;t find any of the blues numbers as profound as some of his other lyrics.
Singer/songwriter at the top of his game in live performance. if you have never seen his live performance, do yourself a favor and put it at the top of your bucket list. The Dukes are incredible musicians who lay it on the line!
Boy am I glad I was convinced to go to the Variety again. This time Steve Earle was the headline. He started with new material, followed with a long medley of past hits, played solo and then rocked the house until he finished with two encores. He shared stories of his past history with the Variety and Atl. I can only hope that this story will continue for a long time.
Wanted some of his classics, he does that really well!!!
I've never seen Steve and his band before, but have been a fan for years. Steve blew the crowd away! He is definitely a talented man and loves to play music. He seems like he's down to earth and a real kind of guy. Wears his heart on his sleeve and loves to showcase his band and its members. He appreciates his talent. I would highly recommend his show to anyone. He plays everything from blue grass, country, blues to rock and roll. He played a solid 2 1/2 hours and was outstanding! This show was one of the best I've seen all year.
Whole band was on. Steve played, sang and blew beautifully into the amp! A great night to remember. Thanks to all for stopping by.
