Steve Earle, The Dukes, The Mastersons- Masterful!
by Wockomo on 6/13/18Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5I've seen Steve Earle, both solo, with The Dukes, and with The Mastersons, quite a few times now. Sunday night's performance - from the second the lights dimmed when The Mastersons took the stage to warm the crowd up -to the end of the evening, when the house lights came back on, my wife and I were just - in awe. I thought that maybe some of it had to do with the fact that I was actually sitting in a club where I first sat as a college idiot in the late 70's wondering why the soles of my shoes were sticking to the floor, then looking over to see, for the first time, the woman that I later married and had our three kids with - but I don't think that was it. I believe it was because the performance, the set list, and the stories that Steve Earle shared, made me feel so alive, so happy and thankful, that I once again, was able to witness one of the top singer/songwriters of my time do his thing. Steve Earle and I are about the same age now. I am familiar with some of the trials and tribulations he overcame during his "outlaw" life - some of them similar to the ones my family growing up faced. However, this artist and band just keeps getting better and better. This show, "Copperhead Road" is a "must-see" and if you're not out of your seat dancing, smiling, and maybe at times, trying to hide a tear or two, than check your pulse because you must already be dead. Way to go Steve Earle and the gang!
