Mr. Stills Rules!

His electric guitar was much better than his acoustic stuff last night. He started the show with Bluebird, then Helplessly Hoping, then Change Partners. He did these with his band -- a bass guitar, keyboards, and drums. There were no other instruments, and he used a different guitar for every song. On 2 songs, however, the guitar was not tuned perfectly -- that ALWAYS bothers me. Then he went into a set where he played and sang by himself. He was so casual and his interpretations of the music were from his heart and memory, and it was as if you had invited him over to play for some friends at your house. He also played Johnny's Garden (the only song he did that made me cry a little), Southern Cross (!), Black Queen (dig it!), Treetop Flyer (big hit with the audience), and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes -- which was a stretch because there is so much to that song. He started it out just himself, acoustic, and then at the end, the band came in an played again. Included in his encore was Love the One You're With, which is about my least favorite song of his. He did a bunch of other songs, some I didn't recognize, and some blues stuff, a Dylan tune, and a cover of a Joe Cocker song (which was probably a cover of someone else's), and I can't remember which one it was (small sigh). I was #20 in the door and was sitting at one of the tables right in front of middle stage and between the big speakers -- the sound in there last night was great. It was not a perfect performance, but I loved every minute of it -- very intimate!!
