This is the 4th performance by the Steep Canyon Rangers that my wife and I have attended. The band is fantastic and truly put on an outstanding live performance. A definite must see for anyone who likes great music appropriate for all ages!
A GREAT EXPERIENCE. It was a sell out crowd. The Band's performance was energizing and amazing. It's great to see every band member get to perform his own special abilities. Even my Wife who isn't a big fan of bluegrass, but knows quality musicians. Said that they were GREAT, and she's excited to see them again. The Venue was wonderful, clean, and friendly we have already bought tickets for another show there.
Music was wonderful! Venue also good! Would see again!
Venue was an old city theatre therefore it was small. The sound was great. The band played for 2+ hours- it was great!
I can’t say enough good things. Great intimate venue! Not a bad seat in the house. And the band... what a treat to see such a talented group! We had a blast!
Best show I've seen since the last Steep Canyon Rangers show!!
Fantastic concert in a historic theater. Guys harmonize like no other band around today. Band came out to visit after the concert. These guys are the real thing!
This is the third time we have seen Steep Canyon Rangers for my husband’s birthday. The first time we had to drive to Raleigh, NC. Last year & this year we got to enjoy them here at the American Theatre. This last show was fabulous. Their best performance yet. We could clearly hear their voices, and the various instruments way up in the balcony. The beer selections were excellent. All the people working were very friendly and helpful this year. The upper balcony usher (left side) was excellent. We were shown to our correct seats this year, unlike last year when a group of six of us could not sit in our correct seats and had to just find random empty seats. Everything felt very organized this year. Enjoyed the light show behind the Steep Canyon Rangers
Steep Canyon Rangers are amazing!Great light show as well!
Opening act great but could not make out any lyrics--a sound issue. Steep Canyon Rangers were musically awesome, but lyrics also a challenge to make out, although better than opening act. We were excited to see how they have evolved (drums, lights, opening act)--we first saw them at Johnson Farm in Hendersonville, NC.
We love SCR and have followed for a few years now. We DID NOT, however like having to listen to the ‘pre’ band for an HOUR before the show we paid for. It’s not that they were bad, it was just not what we came to hear and it went on for soooo long. 15 minutes of this band would have been plenty. And on top of that, it wasn’t even the same genre of music. So, we were not disappointed in SCR but not sure we would do this again because waiting for their show was not that enjoyable. Sorry.
Performing in their hometown, The Steep Canyon Rangers put on an amazing show! They succeeded at creating a memorable experience. Their vocals are very good, but they shine best instrumentally, and delivered on song after song. I cannot imagine anyone seeing this show and leaving disappointed. The only negative was the opening act. They too were solid musicians. Songs were good, though not particularly memorable. But the drawback was the language of the lead singer. Getting a reaction when speaking negatively of one band member being absent due to a church commitment, he let loose a couple of profanities that were totally unnecessary. Having an 8-year old along made this especially disappointing.
Great group! We see them anytime we can - so much talent!
Had seen these guys in a smaller theater, and loved them. Booked this concert in half of a 3,000 seat half field house. More of a rock concert vibe, with lights and extended solos in their native Western North Carolina. Their musical versatility and excellent harmonies still showed through, even though we were much farther away from them than at the theater performance. I would say that these guys are definitely a "live band" and the energy they give doesn't always come though on recordings.
First, I was expecting a blue grass evening. So, I was disappointed when the opening act was a rock act. They stayed on too long. The lighting on stage was annoying at times. The Steep Canyon Rangers were GREAT. Very exciting and I have seen them preform many, many times. I think the spot lights should have been on each member of the group as they performed.
This was my second time seeing the Steep Canyon Rangers live, the first was at the Bijou in Knoxville and then this show at U.S. Cellular Center Asheville, Asheville, NC. The performance was fantastic, I love how they interact together on stage. Lots of beautiful music but the light show was distracting, it was too much! I will attend other concerts by Steep Canyon Rangers but I hope they tone down the light show.
The Steep Canyon Rangers never disappoint; they are extremely talented musicians and entertaining performers. When they play in North Carolina, I get there no matter what!
They hit the ground running and gave us a marvelous show. All of the members showed great command of their instruments. Their playlist was totally satisfying. Great drum solo. Vocals were spot on. Fiddle, mandolin, and banjo were as good as I have ever heard. High energy stage presence. Very nice cover of Neil Young's "Unknown Legend" - immediately recognizable but subtly different in a refreshing way. Regardless of what your favorite genre is you will love them.
The show was, as usual, just wonderful. Music was right on, show was high energy throughout, technical production was excellent, couldn't have been better overall. Especially liked "Swananowa."
