ST. PAUL AND THE BROKEN BONES IN CONCERT:

St. Paul and the Broken Bones bring a youthful enthusiasm to their flashback sound, reviving Southern soul right down to the matching suits each band member wears. Lead singer Paul Janeway tears through each song with unbridled passion, swaying to the rhythm as he skillfully navigates each crescendo and vocal trill. The band adds smooth basslines, banging drums, and blaring horns to breathe life into each soulful serenade and rocking rhythm. Ticket buyers won’t be able to resist each classic style this sextet plays, from pumped-up dancefloor anthems like “Call Me” to gracefully building gospel ballads such as “Like a Mighty River”. Anyone with a funky bone in their body will dig the old school vibes and undeniable grooves of St. Paul and the Broken Bones in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Paul Janeway was studying to become an accountant in 2012, having finally resigned to “make something of himself” when soul music called his name. Rekindling a few old connections, he started St. Paul and the Broken Bones with several Birmingham, AL musicians. The first time they played together was to record a four song EP in 2013, forming an immediate and undeniable chemistry in the studio. After signing with Single Lock Records, the group released their critically praised debut Half the City. The album caught the attention of The Rolling Stones, who hired the soulful sextet to open for them on their 2015 Zip Codes Tour. While they work on their second full-length album, St. Paul and the Broken Bones continue to use their winning blend of gospel and soul to electrify audiences who can’t get enough.

Seriously, One of the best bands you can see live.

by RandyB on 11/12/23The Bellwether - Los Angeles

St. Paul and the Broken Bones played a relatively small standing room, general admission venue in downtown LA, which was a great way to see them. The last time I saw them, they were an opening act at the 18,000 seat Hollywood Bowl, and they were still able to captivate a venue of that size. To me, this band is equivalent to Soul Church. It’s hard not to smile and feel uplifted while watching them play, between the quality of the musicianship and the charisma of their lead singer and his crackerjack band, it’s pretty much guaranteed fun. I love how they treat the band almost like a jazz ensemble with its variability of song choices and willingness to give each musician a piece of a spotlight during their show. See them. It’s good.

    Surprisingly fun entertainment.

by Wcdwnda on 11/11/23The Magnolia - El Cajon

The St Paul and the Broken Bones show was delightful. The bank is so full sounding, and so good, it was an full on experience. The singer's falcetto held strong, costumes were amazing. The crowd, young and old, knew all their songs! Only the venue seemed not safe for emergency exit. There are no central isles in the theater for access to seating or possible fire code violations.

    St Paul Never Disappoints

by JJ on 11/2/23Minglewood Hall - Memphis

St Paul and the Broken Bones was fantastic as usual! They played new and old songs, which I was thrilled about that. And the opener, Maggie Rose, was so good!!!! The sound quality at Minglewood was superior to the other venues I have heard this band. I will be checking out more shows here.

    Great band awful venue

by Artie on 10/14/23The Paramount - Huntington

Band sounded great but opener Y La Bamba was weak. Both bands suffered from awful room acoustics where everything was bassy and boomy. Spoke to sound guy and he said it is the room. Really awful, never going back.

Second time seeing the band and was not disappointed. The Warner Theater acoustics were incredible and the band was so ON. Only wish they would have played just a little longer.

    Great band to see live

by Will on 10/13/23Warner Theatre - Washington

St. Paul & The Broken Bones are a blast to see live. The lead singer's voice is fantastic, and it was showcased to good effect. All the other members of the bank also got their chance to shine. Their music is meant to be heard live - it's a classic soul/funk/rock fusion mix that had the audience on their feet more often than not. My only minor gripe was that there was no advance word of an opening act, and other than the singer of the opening act quickly mumbling their name, I have no idea who they were! Which is a shame because they were great also

    Great performance go see them!

by Rock Fan on 10/12/23The Paramount - Huntington

Second time I’ve seen the band and they blew the roof off The Paramount. No one sat down the whole show. It was one big dance party. Whether you know their music or not, you cannot help but have a joyous great time seeing them live. One of the best live acts you will ever see.

    Great Great Band

by Nud on 10/12/23The Paramount - Huntington

I have seen a lot of bands in my day, I actually saw Duane Allman on the stage that is now the Paramount in Huntington. It was a Monday night and not sold out. This band tore the roof off the place. Everything about this band was stellar. St Paul himself has maybe the best Soul voice I have heard since Otis, He is up on that level of Greatness. This band should be huge

    Short but good

by Comsdude on 10/10/23The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester

While St. Paul was good the show was only an hour and a half. That includes encores. Talking, etc. I was hoping for at least 2 hrs considering we drove over an hour just to get to the show.

by Doccpd on 10/9/23The Wellmont Theater - Montclair

This is the third time i have seen St. Paul and the Broken Bones in the last 4 years. They have been brilliant at each show. Paul Janeaway has a unique voice and a high energy stage presence. He rocks. The band is superb, particularly the horn section. This group never disappoints!

    Horrible venue, great band.

by Zack on 10/9/23The Wellmont Theater - Montclair

St. Paul and the Broken Bones are a great band. However, they didn’t sound anywhere near as good as their potential because the Wellmont theater is trying to maximize profits without considering acoustics or ambience. I got seats that were labeled as the “bar section.” The seats were in front of the bar, which isn’t surprising, but there was no separation between the waiting area of the bar and our seats. So that meant that the entire opening act was drowned out by yelling conversations of the people hanging out and getting drinks behind you. Even if they weren’t happening to have a loud conversation, they were still hanging out right behind our seats. Personal space was gone. When the broken bones started, most people went to their seats, so the yelling did stop, but sadly, the sound did not improve. I dare a Wellmont theater employee to sit through sound check in those seats, and try to claim it sounds good with a straight face. You will not be able to. I hope this review doesn’t negatively affect St. Paul in anyway. I’m sure they had no idea about the sound situation. Maybe in the real seats it sounded good. But in the temporary bar seats, it was not listenable.

    Great venue and great band

by Matt on 9/30/23Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

The State Theater in Kalamazoo looks great, and St Paul and the Broken Bones outdid my expectations. That 8 piece band definitely entertained us, while showing off their amazing talents. I look forward to seeing them play again.
