ST. PAUL AND THE BROKEN BONES IN CONCERT:

St. Paul and the Broken Bones bring a youthful enthusiasm to their flashback sound, reviving Southern soul right down to the matching suits each band member wears. Lead singer Paul Janeway tears through each song with unbridled passion, swaying to the rhythm as he skillfully navigates each crescendo and vocal trill. The band adds smooth basslines, banging drums, and blaring horns to breathe life into each soulful serenade and rocking rhythm. Ticket buyers won’t be able to resist each classic style this sextet plays, from pumped-up dancefloor anthems like “Call Me” to gracefully building gospel ballads such as “Like a Mighty River”. Anyone with a funky bone in their body will dig the old school vibes and undeniable grooves of St. Paul and the Broken Bones in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Paul Janeway was studying to become an accountant in 2012, having finally resigned to “make something of himself” when soul music called his name. Rekindling a few old connections, he started St. Paul and the Broken Bones with several Birmingham, AL musicians. The first time they played together was to record a four song EP in 2013, forming an immediate and undeniable chemistry in the studio. After signing with Single Lock Records, the group released their critically praised debut Half the City. The album caught the attention of The Rolling Stones, who hired the soulful sextet to open for them on their 2015 Zip Codes Tour. While they work on their second full-length album, St. Paul and the Broken Bones continue to use their winning blend of gospel and soul to electrify audiences who can’t get enough.

Paul and the Bones were just great

by knightsofni on 10/24/14Paradise Rock Club - Boston

My nephew found these guys - genX recommendation. I waited over a year to see them in the Boston area, and it was worth the wait. They were just great. I was surprised by the appeal to the folks in the older generation - this was most of the crowd there on a Tuesday night. Clearly, these guys appeal to a wide audience, and deserve the recognition that this is the case.

St. Paul and the Broken Bones AMAZING experience

by tp72 on 10/24/14Paradise Rock Club - Boston

The venue is great for watching your favorite band up close and personal. If you arrive early enough you can get right up front against the stage. They have a few seats upstairs. It does get crowded. The band was amazing. We really enjoyed this show. It was one of the cheapest ticket prices too. The band was excellent and the singer has so much soul and a great sense of humor on stage as well. Loved the dancing he did.

    Half the city

by InspectorHarryCallahan on 9/28/14Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

First let me say that I love this band and the music that they play. But now the bad news, this venue wasn't a good fit and the sound crew had a lot of difficulty in getting levels correct and the result was feedback and distortion of many of the songs. I also noticed Paul using a lot of throat spray and it makes me wonder if he will be able to continue with this overly loud type of performance. I think it would be great to watch these guys in an unplugged type of show where the talent of each band member could be better showcased. Bottom line, I'm glad I went but I went home somewhat disappointed.

St. Paul, we never saw ye!

by Jadeece on 9/28/14Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

I was so excited to see St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and thought I bought tickets to an 8pm concert at the Taft Theatre. I was surprised at the low price ($15) and general admission, but didn't give it another thought. It turns out that it was not at the Taft Theatre, but at the Taft Ballroom instead, which is a large room with no seats. That's when we learned we were expected to stand the whole time and hear three other bands' 45-minute sets before hearing St. Paul and the BB. The first band was just screaming head-banging music, in my opinion, just an assault to the senses......so after about 30 minutes we left! We heard some other people say St. Paul wasn't going to play until midnight, (and this was before we knew about the band's flat tire on the way to Cincinnati, so I don't know what time they played.) We were so bummed not to see St. Paul, but we just decided it wasn't worth the wait.

    what a voice

    by norman01 on 9/28/14Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

Night started a little rough. They struggled with sound issues for the first couple songs. But they rebounded big time. Paul Janeway has one of the best voices I've heard live. The ballroom is a great venue. The crowd was into it and so was the band. High energy and great music. Worth staying up till the midnight start time. Will definitely see them again.

    VERY SPECIAL SHOW- POSSIBLY HISTORIC!

    by ChefMichael57 on 6/3/14JOHNNY BRENDA'S - PHILLY

So back in February 2014 I was listening to the new releases and I came upon ST.PAUL AND THE BROKEN BONES and their debut album HALF THE CITY Wow- I haven't heard soul singing like that in a long time. Off to You Tube for some visuals. There I saw their video for the single CALL ME. I couldn't believe what I was watching- here's this regular looking guy kinda geeky looking putting on a show that would have made JAMES BROWN and LITTLE RICHARD proud! Or at very least put a smile on their face. The dude was killing it! To their credit the band already had a bunch of excellent vids posted (so important for a new band) and they were all captivating. Now to see them live! I saw they were playing in Philly the following month and bought tickets. JOHNNY BRENDA'S is the MERCURY LOUNGE (NYC) of Philly. The perfect club (250capacity) and geared for sound. Parking is challenging - just be patient and you'll find a spot on the street. I saw PAUL JANEWAY in the crowd before the show and we met him and he was nice enough to pose for pictures. Then ST. PAUL put on a show that Bethany would later describe as mind blowing- and rightly so. I've never seen a better show. ST PAUL AND THE BROKEN BONES WILL BE ONE OF IF NOT THE BEST LIVE BANDS IN AMERICA WITHIN A YEAR. Seeing ST PAUL at this intimate club was fantastic and bragging rights wii no doubt be mine going forward

A solid soul R&B band. Musicianship is great, lead singer has a ton of passion. My only wish is that there had been more room to dance.

St. Paul & Broken Bones were great. Venue sucked

by alandb on 10/28/13Mercury Lounge - New York

The band sounded great but the room was much too small for the loudness of the band. He is a screamer (good thing) but with the horns and guitar, the sound was a mess. Slow songs worked better.
