About

University of South Florida Bulls at Yuengling Center

The Bulls men's basketball team saw their home undergo a name change to the Yuengling Center in July 2018. It had been called the University of South Florida Sun Dome since 1980. The Yuengling Center can hold 10,411 fans. The rebranding was fueled by a 10-year naming rights deal between the university and D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc, owner of a venerated brewery near the USF campus in Tampa, Florida.

USF Bulls Men's Basketball History

The first season of the men's basketball team came in 1971, with its first Division I campaign coming in 1973-74 as an independent. The Bulls remained independent until joining the Sun Belt Conference from 1976 to 1991. From there, USF competed in the Metropolitan Collegiate Athletic Conference (1991-95), Conference USA (1995-2005) and Big East (2005-13). The Bulls have since played within the American Athletic Conference.

Head coach Brian Gregory, who'd previously coached at Dayton and Georgia Tech, arrived in Tampa in 2017. The 2018-19 team under Gregory set the all-time program record for wins in a single season with 24-14.

Bobby Paschal was the program's all-time winningest head coach despite having a losing 127-159 overall record from 1987 to 1996. Paschal guided the Bulls to two NCAA tournament appearances, as a No. 15 seed in 1990 and a No. 11 in 1992.

ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg coached the Bulls from 1996 to 2003 before leaping to the Virginia Tech Hokies. At USF, Greenberg went 108-100 but never made the NCAA tournament.

Charlie Bradley is the most heralded Bulls men's basketball alumnus. Bradley's No. 30 became the first retired jersey number in program history on Feb. 14, 1987. He was the all-time leading scorer, with 2,319 career points from 1981-85.

USF, founded in 1956, had as its original nickname the Golden Brahmans because of Florida's cattle industry. It was shortened to the Bulls in the late '80s.

Game Great; SunDome Not So Much

by InspectorT on 2/21/11USF Sun Dome - Tampa

The Hoya-Bulls game was exciting, with the Bulls hanging in there against a much more talented team. The SunDome, however, is a slum. I hadn't been in the Dome for 8 years or so. It wasn't great then, and has gone significantly down hill. And the concession stands have St. Pete-Times Forum prices, but without the quality.

We had a great time. We are ND fans and do not have many chances to see ND play. It was a wonderful experience. Our seats were the best.

by mountaneerman on 2/14/11USF Sun Dome - Tampa

Good Game for the Irish A very cold shooting day for the FSU Bulls But they never gave up and the Kid from North Port Fl # 22 is going to be a great player for the Bulls The Irish just had too much good defense and and a Great Team effort even thier Center Cooley who is a Sub off the brench scored 18 points in about 10 mins of playing time The Irish could be a Final Four team in the NCAA in March They are real Good

    USF Sun Dome

by JoeyD15 on 2/14/11USF Sun Dome - Tampa

Went to watch the Fighting Irish play the Bulls on Saturday, February 12th. The Sun Dome is by far the worse Division I arena that I have been at to watch a college basketball game. The sound system was horrible. Construction occupied numerous parking spaces. Had to pay $10.00 to park. Concessions were that off a high school game. For a public university that has over 40,000 students enrolled, they are running a division III outfit.

    SU Basketball

by Pfloyd33 on 2/8/11St Pete Times Forum - Tampa

I follow SU Basketball, but "C'mon Man", $9.00 for a beer outside at St. Pete Forum and $11.00 for a beer inside, that is insane. I paid $4.50 for a coffee and $4.00 for a cookie. That is totally greedy. Plus all the hidden add-ons for the cost of a ticket. Some-one is getting rich fast on events like this. I'm going on Facebook and Twitter to voice my concerns. This has got to change. I realize I have to pay a higher price, but not that much. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SU vs USF at the Forum

by NewYorkSunbathers on 2/7/11St Pete Times Forum - Tampa

Great game - miss seeing live Syracuse games since moving out of the frozen tundra of upstate New York. Crowd was amazing - it was like I was at the Carrier Dome - only mini! Definately will go to more games at this venue.

USF played a very good Syracuse team. They are in a tough conference but they played hard and I wish them a new great recruiting year.

$10 to park on top of garage....heart attack walking up 5000 steps, while lower levels were fairly empty....what's with that? The game itself was great...

    Bulls Away game

by IMFlann on 2/7/11St Pete Times Forum - Tampa

Game was good--Syracuse has some young talent--USF is struggling without Dom Jones--turnout for Bulls was not impressive--Syracuse faithful far outnumbered home fans, as the game was basically a "home" game for Syracuse, which was a bit annoying to have been a part of. We're just not a big area for "Hoops", although I'm not stating anything new about this neck of the woods. Venue is great--seats were awesome, but next time, I'll try to attend a "home" game for the Bulls.

    SU/USF Basketball Game

by SNJ81 on 2/7/11St Pete Times Forum - Tampa

Forum is a very nice venue. Seats were very good (section 218). Looked like and SU home game (crowd was mostly dressed in Orange). Orange won convincingly. Consessions seemed very expensive. Parking in nearby garage was convenient.
