About

University of South Florida Bulls at Yuengling Center

The Bulls men's basketball team saw their home undergo a name change to the Yuengling Center in July 2018. It had been called the University of South Florida Sun Dome since 1980. The Yuengling Center can hold 10,411 fans. The rebranding was fueled by a 10-year naming rights deal between the university and D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc, owner of a venerated brewery near the USF campus in Tampa, Florida.

USF Bulls Men's Basketball History

The first season of the men's basketball team came in 1971, with its first Division I campaign coming in 1973-74 as an independent. The Bulls remained independent until joining the Sun Belt Conference from 1976 to 1991. From there, USF competed in the Metropolitan Collegiate Athletic Conference (1991-95), Conference USA (1995-2005) and Big East (2005-13). The Bulls have since played within the American Athletic Conference.

Head coach Brian Gregory, who'd previously coached at Dayton and Georgia Tech, arrived in Tampa in 2017. The 2018-19 team under Gregory set the all-time program record for wins in a single season with 24-14.

Bobby Paschal was the program's all-time winningest head coach despite having a losing 127-159 overall record from 1987 to 1996. Paschal guided the Bulls to two NCAA tournament appearances, as a No. 15 seed in 1990 and a No. 11 in 1992.

ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg coached the Bulls from 1996 to 2003 before leaping to the Virginia Tech Hokies. At USF, Greenberg went 108-100 but never made the NCAA tournament.

Charlie Bradley is the most heralded Bulls men's basketball alumnus. Bradley's No. 30 became the first retired jersey number in program history on Feb. 14, 1987. He was the all-time leading scorer, with 2,319 career points from 1981-85.

USF, founded in 1956, had as its original nickname the Golden Brahmans because of Florida's cattle industry. It was shortened to the Bulls in the late '80s.

    USF Hoops Take Down Providence

by alumnidad on 3/1/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

After playing from behind basically the entire game, the Bulls finally stormed ahead during the final minutes to pull it out. A lot of scoring in the second half which brought th eexcitement up a few notches. Seats were inexpensive and it was a fun atmosphere.

Good game, good environment, small issues.

by Jaultma2 on 2/17/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

The only issue I really had was that there was someone sitting in my seat and they were quite rude when i asked them to move. I know USF basketball hasn't been good in a long time and as a former student I remember going to games and being able to sit wherever you wanted because it was extremely likely the actual seatholder wasn't coming. That being said it was a frustration and the only blemish on an otherwise good evening of basketball.

    USF Bulls

by Zozie on 2/1/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

The basketball game was great. However, the tickets bought through ticketmaster were for seats in the middle of the Pittsburgh fans and we are USF fans, so not so cool. The three guys who sat directly behind us were especially annoying screaming loudly for Pitt the entire time, even singing the song the band played...We had to move at half time and find other seats where we could enjoy the game without going deaf and where we were able to cheer for our home team without ridicule and grief from the surrounding fans.

    Long line

by sorrysally on 2/1/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

The game was ok, seats were pretty good, but the WILL CALL line had only one person working and the line was so long we missed the beginning of the game. USF should have known Pitt would be a large draw and had extra people working! After all, they knew in advance how many will call tickets there were to be picked up!

    Bulls were fantastic!

by Edswife on 2/1/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

While the shooting percentages from the field were not great, the Bulls did their job on the free throw line to knock off the Panthers from Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon.

    Courtside Cabana was awesome!!

by jobremi on 2/1/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

I took my wife & son to the USF-Pitt game Sunday & had a GREAT time (except for Pitt losing)!!! With the Cabana tickets we were able to enter the arena prior to regular seat ticket holders which was nice due to the chilly weather. When we entered the arena we were pleasantly surprised to see that we would be in a "special" area where wristbands were required to enter. The area was nicely set up with couches, high tables, a carving station & other miscellaneous food stations & a beer, wine, soda & water bar all in a carpeted area. All staff members were very professional, courteous, friendly & helpful. We were also pleasantly surprised to find out that we could sit in any of the seats right behind the hoop. We sat in the 1st row & could hear the players "chatting" between & during plays. I would highly recommend this ticket to anyone!!

    Had a ball

by leftywrite on 1/14/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

The Sun Dome is a good venue for college basketball. It is easily accessible. Parking is convenient. Food and beverages are available. Fans are pretty enthusiastic even if the game is pretty much a blowout. In addition to the main event there is enjoyably cheesy entertainment that ranges from Hootie the Hooters owl to kids trying to sling shot a taco through the basketball hoop. A good evening's entertainment.
