About

University of South Florida Bulls at Yuengling Center

The Bulls men's basketball team saw their home undergo a name change to the Yuengling Center in July 2018. It had been called the University of South Florida Sun Dome since 1980. The Yuengling Center can hold 10,411 fans. The rebranding was fueled by a 10-year naming rights deal between the university and D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc, owner of a venerated brewery near the USF campus in Tampa, Florida.

USF Bulls Men's Basketball History

The first season of the men's basketball team came in 1971, with its first Division I campaign coming in 1973-74 as an independent. The Bulls remained independent until joining the Sun Belt Conference from 1976 to 1991. From there, USF competed in the Metropolitan Collegiate Athletic Conference (1991-95), Conference USA (1995-2005) and Big East (2005-13). The Bulls have since played within the American Athletic Conference.

Head coach Brian Gregory, who'd previously coached at Dayton and Georgia Tech, arrived in Tampa in 2017. The 2018-19 team under Gregory set the all-time program record for wins in a single season with 24-14.

Bobby Paschal was the program's all-time winningest head coach despite having a losing 127-159 overall record from 1987 to 1996. Paschal guided the Bulls to two NCAA tournament appearances, as a No. 15 seed in 1990 and a No. 11 in 1992.

ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg coached the Bulls from 1996 to 2003 before leaping to the Virginia Tech Hokies. At USF, Greenberg went 108-100 but never made the NCAA tournament.

Charlie Bradley is the most heralded Bulls men's basketball alumnus. Bradley's No. 30 became the first retired jersey number in program history on Feb. 14, 1987. He was the all-time leading scorer, with 2,319 career points from 1981-85.

USF, founded in 1956, had as its original nickname the Golden Brahmans because of Florida's cattle industry. It was shortened to the Bulls in the late '80s.

let Syracuse play the Forum every time

by Syracuse87grad on 2/7/11St Pete Times Forum - Tampa

don't play anymore Syracuse games in the Sun Dome. Make their every other year appearance a fixture in the Forum and you will continue to draw five-digit crowds. Have the Tampa faction lobby the NCAA to send Syracuse to Tampa for the first two rounds of the NCAAs coming up in March and you will sell out the building.

    Great except seat controversy

by Hjon66 on 1/11/11USF Sun Dome - Tampa

There were plenty of empty seats at the sundome for this game including the lower level where ushers guarded the area and would not let me sit in this area despite the empty seats. I was told by an usher that those seats had to remain empty. USF basketball does not draw well so I didn't think it was a big deal to try to sit in the lower level even though I was a Louisville fan and was wearing a Louisville sweatshirt. The usher asked me for my ticket and I had to leave. I don't know what they are saving the seats for.

    Small crowd fun

by bob246 on 1/11/11USF Sun Dome - Tampa

As long as college basketball remains a non-entity in Tampa, the Bulls games will undoubtedly remain near the top of the city's entertainment bargains. USF plays in the very best conference in NCAA basketball and will continue to host elite opponents. The college game is far more entertaining than the NBA in my opinion. To find less than 5000 seats filled against a nationally ranked team is a shame, but it makes for easy traffic and parking, not to mention bargain prices. (Like most sport venues, refreshments are ludicrously overpriced however, so one tends to do without).

    BB Game v. Auburn 12-15-10

by Dustywrn on 12/17/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

First-time visitor, and we were in the Cabana Club. Pep Band was really sharp, but the cheerleaders seemed like they had other places to go. VERY un-spirited routines and lack-luster enthusiasm. My wife even commented to me on it. It was almost like, "Aw-w-w, Ge-e-e... do we HAVE to get out there again..???"

The USF female and male Basketball matches were interesting and enjoyable to watch. This was my first USF match of any kind and I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere.

It was a great game, Seats were really good. The price was unbeliveable and inexpensive. Disapointed at the total number of people who were there considering how inexpensive it was, however the atmospher was great. Bulls Fans were are you it was the time to step up if ever.

Outside of the outcome of the game(the Huskies lost) I enjoyed myself the only thing I think you can improve on is the arena map/seat locator. It was unclear on the map exactly where the seats were according to the baseline and basket. We were behind the backboard but on the side so it wasn't horrible but it was a guessing game and I would have opted for lokking for better seats had I'd known.

    Good basketball

by LumpSRQ on 3/7/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

We enjoyed the game. It was the fist time we were at the Sun Dome. We thought we were lucky to get a parking place right next to the building, but it seemed that there was only one way out after the game and it took a long time to leave. We were also surprised that there was only one door open at each gate. The signage inside the building was poor. We had to ask a couple of people where the restrooms were. The first two (arena employees) did not know. ???? Concession stand only had one person taking orders and the line moved very slowly. We go to a lot of basketball game at UF in Gainesvile. The Sun Dome could take some lessons from them in people/car moving and accomodations.

UCONN lost but still was a good time!!

by Nana999 on 3/7/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

Everything about going to a USF game is good. Parking was easy even though we didn't get there until about 1/2 hour before game. People selling parking passes, checking purses, and checking tickets were are very pleasant. Even though we had nose-bleed seats we could still see and enjoyed the people around us. The only problem of the day was leaving but when you have that many people leaving an event at the same time I don't see how that can be avoided.

The best kept secret in Tampa is USF athletics, regardless if it is football, baseball, or basketball this is a fun event. All people in Tampa need to come out and support YOUR Bulls ;)

Both teams kept spectators at the edge of their seats!!! The score was close throughout the game and went down to the wire as to who would win! Great victory for USF! Go Bulls!

    USF Bulls Beats UCONN

by USFBULL on 3/7/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

Well USF had never beat UCONN, 0-7 but that streak is over. USF out hustled, out played UCONN. I really think USF wanted and needed to win this game. It was the largest crowd for a home USF Bulls game this year, 8 thousand plus. Our Team deserves more Fan Support and maybe with the way the season is ending up and hoping for a chance to go to the Big Dance that the fans will come out next year. Also, for as many students that goes to USF, our Student Section is very small. Kudos to the students who come and really cheer on the team, but we need more student support as well. USF controlled most of the game, UCONN did make a run to make it a nail biter at the end, but USF kept the cool and won. Great Win, Great Home Win, Great Big East Win. Go Bull

by MandoJoe on 3/3/10USF Sun Dome - Tampa

Took my girlfriend as a surprise since she's crazy about basketball and was not dissapointed. The game was very fun and USFs pep band and cheerleaders were pretty good. The fans definitely made it even better. Comes recommended!
