SOULIVE GET DOWN took us Up Here!

by GrooveScooter on 9/14/09Pines Theater at Look Park - Florence

Since I began going to gigs in 1972, I've heard a lot of great music. Hundreds of shows, from Abercrombie (John) to Zappa (Frank). Soulive's performance with John Scofield at the Get Down on 9/12 was, in my opinion one of the best concert experiences ever. Sco & Eric trading riffs while Neil & Alan laid down the funk was heaven. UP HERE!

    You missed out!!

by MarcoEscaundolas on 9/14/09Pines Theater at Look Park - Florence

The getdown was unbelievable. Soulive killed it at the end with Sco. It's just a shame more people didn't show up. I'm already getting ready for next year.

    Soulive got down

by boythisisannoying on 9/14/09Pines Theater at Look Park - Florence

What an awesome scene all around. Amazing location, amazing venue, amazing lineup. Such a great time full of great music. Was really surprised by lack of turn out for such a solid card. One complaint would be lack of more sit-in's during sets. That lineup could have fielded a stellar super-jam, but seemed like folks had places to go. ah well, maybe next year!

    Potter rocked the Pines

by GracePtterFan1 on 9/13/09Pines Theater at Look Park - Florence

I've lived here all my life and I've never been to the Pines Theater EVER! It was a gorgeous setting, small and intimate. The sound and acoustics were better than anything i've heard at a festival. I've also never heard of any of the bands in the SoulLive lineup and really enjoyed those that I did hear. Although I haev to say my main concern for going was Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Their stage presence made this small venue seem large scale! they roceked the pines and had the crowd -- young and old-- moving to every beat in their songs.

    The Great Get Down

by kittcat on 9/13/09Pines Theater at Look Park - Florence

Soulive with the help of their very talented friends such as John Scofield gave the audience a musical treat in a beautiful venue. I was blown away from the incredible performance of Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. The Pines Theatre at Look Park in the little town of Florence, MA was worth the trip. I hope this 1st annual festival is the first of many.

Fantastic show at a fantastic venue. Eight hours of music for not much of an outlay. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

    Get down

by funkDfyD on 9/13/09Pines Theater at Look Park - Florence

This show was unreal... lettuce even happened, which was killer. Kraz and the boys tore it up all night Sco rocks for miles, and he is one of the best.

    Royal family ROCKED!!

by GarrisonO on 9/13/09Pines Theater at Look Park - Florence

overall this show was great, slightly unorganized, but thats what you have to expect for a 1st annual event... the Nigel Hall, Soulive, and Scofield combo was definitely great. any event where there is a Magic Hat tent gets a thumbs up in my book... looking forward to the 2nd get down!!!

    Hmmm...the jury is still out

by Jungledave on 9/13/09Pines Theater at Look Park - Florence

Well, Sharon Jones was UNBELIEVABLE - this is a woman who knows how to perform. In all honesty, I only caught the last three acts (including SoulLive) and didn't stay past Scofield's two guest numbers (disappointed - hope he didn't come back at the end - shame on Alan for not telling us if he was coming back later). SoulLive was off to a very, very rough start, and seemed to find their groove, but I found much of their stuff self-indulgent and just, well....boring. Not having a bass player is a huge hole in their line-up, and I can't see why the keyboard player (ten years together? playing at Monterey Jazz next week) spent much of his time keeping his clavinet straight? come on guys...way too distracting. I'm sure they've had better nights, and perhaps I left too soon...but I see potential, just not enough discipline perhaps...plus Alan, please, LESS TALKING DUDE - or just make your stories shorter. PLEASE. Let me be fair, good musicianship throughout the night - GREAT VIBE in the audience - AMAZING setting (why can't every show I see outdoors be at the Pines Theatre in Florence Mass????).

    Full of Surprises! Amazing Talent!

by SassySessi on 9/13/09Pines Theater at Look Park - Florence

An unforgettable show! The musicians all seemed pumped to be there together and were sending out great vibes. It was really a huge celebration. The venue was small and personal. Couldn't have asked for a better night. Even the rain and mud added to the fun.
