One of the worst shows we have attended. We stayed for the first half. Could not go back in .
Good adaptation of the original movie. Josephine, Daphne and Sugar were very good while Osgood stole the show. Choreography, sets, supporting cast and costumes were great for a touring company.
To start off, the sound was bad and it was hard to hear and/or understand what was being said and sung. This musical was preachy and delve into the social and political arenas. I loved the movie and was looking forward to a nice evening out and enjoying this musical. If I had not been seated in the middle of the row, I would have left even before the intermission. Waste of my money and time.
We loved this production. The sets were terrific. The dancing was exceptional. And the familiar story was well done. What we didn't like was the sound quality. It was harsh, too loud, and with so much reverberation that words were hard to understand.
I saw the original Broadway production last fall and wanted to see it again. The show was almost as good as the Broadway production but the uncomfortable seats (four ticket holders confirmed that it the seat need to be replaced) and poor sound of the venue were not acceptable. Time for renovation!
Some Like it Hot is one of my all time favorite movies. Before coming to the performance and reading the playbill, I didn't realize that it had been turned into a musical. There was some music in the movie, but it was mostly talking. And the movie is a fantasy, really: who wouldn't have been able to realize that "Daphne"and "Josephine"were not women? The Broadway in Tucson performance turned the plot into even more of a fantasy. This was the 1930s. There were absolutely no mixed race performances. Ella Fitzgerald got arrested for performing in front a white audience in the 1950s for heaven's sake. And the funny line at the end of the movie: Joe: "I'm a man!"Osgood: "Well, no one's perfect", was basically eliminated. All that said, the performers were terrific, especially Matt Loerh as Joe and Tavis Kordell as Jerry. The singing voices of Tarra Jones as Sweet Sue and Leandra Ellis-Gaston were good until they raised the volume: unfortunately to me it sounded more like screaming than singing. The choreography was spectacular, especially the scene with all the comings and goings through the hotel doors. Bottom line: if you can suspend your disbelief, the show is worth attending.
I enjoyed most of the storyline of this show - quite a bit different from the 1959 movie. But two of us left with headaches from the deafening volume. This was my first time at Centennial Hall in Tucson so maybe it’s acoustics or the level of where my seats were. But it was LOUD! I could hardly make out most of the lyrics because of the volume; the woman playing Sweet Sue had a great voice, but because of the volume, it mostly sounded like screaming, not singing. I’ve been to many Broadway productions in San Diego. This was my first truly unpleasant experience. I don’t recommend this show unless the soundman gets hearing aids. Still impressed by all the performers though!
Tucson Centennial Hall has poor acoustics .. a 2000 seat auditorium with muddy sound and echoes. Some shows are ok there .. those with mostly speaking parts or solo singers, but almost every show with big choruses and loud music becomes unintelligible. If you already know all the words and music (e.g. Hamilton) it's ok. Having said that, Some Like it Hot is very enjoyable, great dancing, a fun book, and just enough updated variance from the movie to make it modern in sensibility. Costumes are fabulous too. It would have been nice to actually discern the words in the songs, though, though it was certainly easy enough to follow along.
Some Like it Hot is a great show, and this National Tour company is exceptional. The score is great, the jokes are funny, the actors are stunningly talented - singing, acting, dancing (tap, baby! The choreagrapher deserves a medal). Even the orchestra was - beautiful. All that being said - Centennial Hall in Tucson has horrible acoustics, particularly with regard to hearing the lyrics clearly. I had been avoiding the venue for quite a while ever since it ruined "Ain't Too Proud"for me a couple of years ago, but really wanted to see this show. The only other option would be to drive 2 hours to Phoenix and have to stay overnight. I know there are lots of folks in other parts of the country who don't have access to Nederlander National Tours like this, and so grateful for the opportunity. And there are no other potential sites in Tucson that would suffice. But Centennial Hall does the entire production a disservice, and at near-Broadway prices to boot.
I wasn't sure what the show was about but it turned out to he a very funny, surprising good show. The singing and dancing was exceptional.
The actors were absolutely wonderful! Timing, dancing, everything was perfect. As usual I find the acoustics difficult at Centennial Hall. The music was often so loud I couldn’t hear the words to the songs. Found the two female leads to be the weaker of the 4-5 main characters. Voices off key at times, drowned out at others. But overall loved the show and enjoyed it all immensely
Some Like it Hot was an exciting, colorful, fantastic performance. The talented actors sang and danced their way through the evening. For a touring company, this group was Broadway worthy!
Very much enjoyed the show, from dancing to singing to humor to creativity…excellent!!
Boring ,poor representation of original story .Watch instead on NetFlix
The choreography is the outstanding part of this show. Costuming is terrific and the set design is creative in light of the fact that this is a touring show and needs to be easy to crate and go on to the next location. I found the score to be middling to mediocre and the voices of the two female leads were too nasal which became annoying after awhile. The performer who played Osgood had a beautiful voice( the best song in the show, "Mariposa", was sung by him) and when he was on stage my eyes were fixed to him. Both the male leads had terrific comic timing, wonderful voices that deserved better songs to sing. It's a fun evening and worth the price of admission.
Good show… well done! Venue should adjust their purse restrictions!
The performance was very professional, great voices, excellent dancing, and talented actors. The two main characters looked great as women and looked comfortable in their heels even when dancing. Enjoyed the dancing, singing, and flow of the production. Glad I went and was entertained.
Wasn’t sure what to expect but the performers were impeccable. Great acting, great story line, the singing and dancing was paragon!!!
Shirking not singing. No memorable music. Can you hum one tune?
Wonderful show. Everything you want in a broadway show. Big dance numbers, amazing choreography (doors in particular) lots of comedy. One of the best shows!!
