About

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a triumph of collaboration, bringing together over a hundred of the world's foremost classically trained Chinese dancers, choreographers, musicians, and vocalists. It also boasts the world's only full orchestra that embraces both Western and Chinese instruments as its permanent members.

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is distinguished by its conscious effort to remain independent of China's communist regime, which has abused and impoverished the arts for decades. It is proud to thus include members who practice Falun Gong. The company aspires to create original performances that not only entertain, but also more deeply educate, enrich, and inspire. The company's rich repertory is drawn from the pages of history, universal themes, and the world around us. All choreography and music performed are original.

    Amazing colors and music

by Mom of 7 on 2/3/24Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts - Moran Theater - Jacksonville

The dancing and choreography was synchronized so well. The orchestra was amazing. They had a special theater with animation that looked so real as the people popped in and out of the screen. The best was the soloist playing a 2 stringed instrument. Definitely will go again.

    Good

by Piet on 2/3/24Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts - Moran Theater - Jacksonville

I was fortunate to experience a similar type of production many years ago which had superior lead dancers. Considering that there are few top soloist in the world, this was a very nice production

    Traditional Chinese Dance? Hardly.

by Jeff on 2/2/24Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts - Moran Theater - Jacksonville

Traditional Chinese dance? I don’t think so, seemed more like ballet. Talented dancers, but the story and dance felt very contrived. The quasi-religious aspect was unexpected and, frankly, unwelcome. Lackluster story and lacking any uniqueness made it rather boring.

    Tah-dah!

by Bear on 2/2/24Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts - Moran Theater - Jacksonville

I thought the dancers were absolutely incredible! All of them were talented and expressed their love of what they do, it came through their art! I would like to have seen more dancers on stage at one time. The more dancers their are, the more beautiful it looked. I also LOVED the two stringed instrument! However, I did NOT enjoy the soprano dinner. She was awful, and she actually hurt my ears.

Great show and very helpful staff

by Curt on 2/1/24SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

The show was the best show my wife and I have been to, the house staff made it very easy to find our seats. On a 1 to 10 I’ll give this experience a 10.

    Devine

by Tryce on 2/1/24Cannon Center for the Performing Arts - Memphis

Performance's superb, captivating, and highly entertaining something that I never thought I would ever see. But honestly I would love to see the performance again in a city with more of the performer's like advertised on television.

    Extraordinary As Always

by Ms. A on 1/31/24Cannon Center for the Performing Arts - Memphis

This was my 4th time attending the Shen Yun Ballet. As expected, I was once again blown away by the beauty, the energy, the athleticism, the talent, and foundational spirituality of the various stories and songs. I tell everyone how no shows are ever the same. This year was no exception. I will make every effort to attend each year that it comes to town.

    The show was fantastic.

by Brad on 1/31/24Cannon Center for the Performing Arts - Memphis

The show was fantastic. Unfortunately, the porters allowed people to sit wherever they wanted, so we were frequently interrupted when the ticket holder arrived at their seats, only to find them occupied by someone else.

    Amazing

by Girls day out on 1/31/24SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

Beautiful dancing and colorful outfits! Absolutely loved this show! I read lots of negative reviews and was nervous about going. But I loved it! People were comparing it to cirque solee but that's comparing apples to oranges. There were some religious/political parts but it told their story. And the background stuff I found hilarious. I really enjoyed it. The live orchestra was great. The announcers were funny, the costumes beautiful, the dancing spectacular! Loved it and would recommend going!

    Spellbinding

by gomamma on 1/31/24SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

I ended up loving Shen Hun but in the first half, I found myself getting a little bored. However, the second half brought me back to life with the stories much easier to interpret and the costumes and dancing were more than I ever imagined. The colors in the costumes and the choreography....well, I couldn't take my eyes off the stage. Overall, I give it a thumbs up.

    Meh

by Cameo on 1/30/24Cannon Center for the Performing Arts - Memphis

I was honestly underwhelmed with this show. The advertising and hype really had me looking forward to it, but in reality, it was very long with repetitive choreography and costumes. There were a couple of mediocre vocalists intermingled with the dancing; this broke it up some. This show is advertised as "China before communism", which was very appealing to me because I think their culture is rich and interesting. However, the vocalists' songs were subtitled, and the message in the lyrics was all about Dafa, which is a fairly new (1990s) spiritual movement. Last of all, the actors/dancers were not traveling in the United States from China, they all live in New York. Overall, it was moderately entertaining; the dresses and costumes were lovely, and I loved the music, but the experience was overpriced in my opinion.

Beautiful dancing and creative background screen use, but...

by Lisa on 1/30/24SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

I didn't know what to expect. Youtube ads actually got me this time. I was looking to see a live show and a Shen Yu commercial showed up. I love the Chinese art style of dance and I'd never seen an animated background used in a way that created depth with the actors seemingly jumping in an out of pictures. Beautiful, vibrant costume design. Then came the propaganda. Twice they referred to atheism and evolution as evil and the causes for a loss of hope in the world. I'm neutral on the former. But evolution is just a basic observable fact. As long as you don't mind the attack on your brain cells in those moments, it wasn't a bad showing.

    Outstanding Performance

by Doll: on 1/30/24SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - Sacramento

The Shen Yum 2024 was Outstanding. The Tgeatrical Art of each person did an exceptional work on their performance. The solos were equally beautiful. The pianist did a wonderful piece on the music which was chosen. Everyone was great. Our prayers are with you. Thank you for giving such a performance in Sacramento, the Capital State of California.
