About

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a triumph of collaboration, bringing together over a hundred of the world's foremost classically trained Chinese dancers, choreographers, musicians, and vocalists. It also boasts the world's only full orchestra that embraces both Western and Chinese instruments as its permanent members.

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is distinguished by its conscious effort to remain independent of China's communist regime, which has abused and impoverished the arts for decades. It is proud to thus include members who practice Falun Gong. The company aspires to create original performances that not only entertain, but also more deeply educate, enrich, and inspire. The company's rich repertory is drawn from the pages of history, universal themes, and the world around us. All choreography and music performed are original.

  • Nice, but way overpriced and propagandistic

by Jose on 1/23/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts (fka Duke Energy) - RaleighRating: 3 out of 5

If you love the arts, visuals, dance, and good music, it's a good show that's for sure; but WAY too expensive in my opinion for what it is. Also bear in mind that you will have to put up with some parts where they will try to persuade you to join the Falun Gong cult and tell you that if you believe in "modern trends"like atheism and evolution, you will not go to heaven :)

  • Feels like they’re phoning it in.

by Just fair. on 1/23/24Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

I’ve been curious about this production for many years and finally decided to see a performance. I took my 91 yo mother, my 77 yo mother in law, and my wife, which cost a pretty fair amount for a matinee show. I’d have to admit, our mothers were really impressed, but my wife and I much less so. They mentioned they develop a new production every year, and perhaps they have run out of ideas. I did enjoy 3-4 of the dance numbers, but the rest seemed very repetitive, like they were struggling to fill the two hours of the show. Costumes were somewhat basic, and set/scenery were non-existent. Having never been, I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect, but was somewhat un-impressed with the show. I’ve been much more impressed with just about every musical, ballet, or traveling show I’ve ever seen. Once home my mother was trying to explain what we saw to my sister, so I brought up some older dances preformed previous years. They were much, much more impressive, both the dances and the costumes. No doubt it is difficult to come up with an entirely new show every year, but from what we saw, I’d say they have run out of ideas.

  • A wonderfully unique show!

by Nancy P on 1/23/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed the entire show. Very entertaining, beautiful costumes, great story telling and music, amazing acrobatics and dance numbers, and exceptional special effects used with the big screen! It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Well done!

  • Truth telling and outstanding performance

by Selina on 1/23/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts (fka Duke Energy) - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Revealed the authentic pure ancient Chinese culture and contemporary society. There is no contaminated elements. No brain wash. No lies. The music is phenomenon. The dance is outstanding. The organization, the choreography and pianist are excellent. Workers are enthusiastic. The singing part is not my favorite.

  • Shen Yun: Captivating!

by Dad on 1/23/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts (fka Duke Energy) - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

My only regret is I couldn’t take pictures. For my memory and to show others how amazing it was!

  • Not as in the marketing ad

by Pam on 1/23/24Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts (fka Duke Energy) - RaleighRating: 2 out of 5

The show was pretty different than what was shown on the video presentation. Such a big gap. The stories were constantly interrupted by the storytellers, who found that disruptive and not engaging..

A wonderful experiment! Goregous center to perform in along with great views from all seats. The musical played from the band was excellent. The dancers performed top notch. Only thing that was lacking was air it seemed hotter than usual .But over all I was pleased by the performance .

  • Great, for your first time....

by Cup on 1/23/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

I saw this show last year at which time they announced that it's a different show with new choreography each year. Well, it's not. Some of the singers were different, but the show was pretty much the same. So if it's your first time seeing the show, you will truly enjoy it. If not, unless you like repeat performances (which I don't), save your money.

  • Repetitive

by Performance Enthusiast on 1/22/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

The performance itself was well done but many of the pieces were redundant. Most disappointing was how the theater handled late-comers. They were allowed to enter the theater throughout the performance, with no regard to the disturbance they were causing. Several groups, some with 3 or 4 people, entered late, which was inconsiderate and unfair to the audience and the performers.

  • Great show!

by D. Alsb on 1/22/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

I recommend this show at least once. It is a great show. The seats at the theater are very uncomfortable. Our backs were hurting after the two hour show and we bought the second row “expensive” seats! They need a new venue in San Diego. Maybe try the Escondido!

Although I was awed by the stories, the effects and the dance, it was not till I returned home when the global importance of the performance really sunk in. It is a message for all of humanity.
