Feels like they’re phoning it in.
by Just fair. on 1/23/24Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 4 out of 5I’ve been curious about this production for many years and finally decided to see a performance. I took my 91 yo mother, my 77 yo mother in law, and my wife, which cost a pretty fair amount for a matinee show. I’d have to admit, our mothers were really impressed, but my wife and I much less so. They mentioned they develop a new production every year, and perhaps they have run out of ideas. I did enjoy 3-4 of the dance numbers, but the rest seemed very repetitive, like they were struggling to fill the two hours of the show. Costumes were somewhat basic, and set/scenery were non-existent. Having never been, I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect, but was somewhat un-impressed with the show. I’ve been much more impressed with just about every musical, ballet, or traveling show I’ve ever seen. Once home my mother was trying to explain what we saw to my sister, so I brought up some older dances preformed previous years. They were much, much more impressive, both the dances and the costumes. No doubt it is difficult to come up with an entirely new show every year, but from what we saw, I’d say they have run out of ideas.
