About

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a triumph of collaboration, bringing together over a hundred of the world's foremost classically trained Chinese dancers, choreographers, musicians, and vocalists. It also boasts the world's only full orchestra that embraces both Western and Chinese instruments as its permanent members.

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is distinguished by its conscious effort to remain independent of China's communist regime, which has abused and impoverished the arts for decades. It is proud to thus include members who practice Falun Gong. The company aspires to create original performances that not only entertain, but also more deeply educate, enrich, and inspire. The company's rich repertory is drawn from the pages of history, universal themes, and the world around us. All choreography and music performed are original.

    NOT WORTH IT

by Kim on 4/9/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

Hello I must say we were thoroughly disappointed and left at intermission- along with a bunch of others we don’t know. I had taken my mom a decade ago and remember a more spectacular show of acrobatics and great performances. Not sure what has happened but the crew appears smaller and the dances are mediocre in showmanship. Less acrobatics and overall boring and disappointing. We saw a bunch of people walk out about 15-20 min into the show. We were at the Dolby theater on a Saturday night.

I have been waiting for three years to see this show. It was everything i wanted it to be, and more! My favorite act was the flower girls.

    Disappointed

by Alfa on 4/9/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

The performance was good the venue was not so good, first of all once we all had been seated it felt that the air conditioning was turned off. Making uncomfortable for all to enjoy the play. As the time got closer to intermission my party and I were taking layers of clothing off and fanning our self with the program given to us at the entrance. My party and I decided to leave the play after intermission due to the uncomfortable conditions. This may just be the worse experience ive had during an event like this.

    Beautiful costumes -OK performances

by PW on 4/9/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

Would have appreciated if they would have done a better job explaining who they are and the connection to and persecution of Falon Gang (sp?) by the communist party in China.

    Nice, but....

by EDF on 4/8/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

The TV commercials definitely capture the best moments. Startling dance, gymnastics and aerobatics, but it's weak on storyline. My hats off to the many young people involved in what I imagine is near lifelong training. However, could be reduced to one hour.

    Shen Yun connection with God

by Alinda Tian on 4/8/24Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

Shen Yun's performance Arts is extremely exciting and beautiful. It is by far the most grand art in the world. Shen Yun spreads Chinese civilization far and wide to the world, which is amazing. This is the continuation of human civilization and connection with God. I love the show.

    Not Cirque du Soleil

by Ed on 4/6/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

I thought this was going to be like Cirque, but on a lesser scale. My fault for not checking deeper. It is ballet with lots of beautiful colors and talented dancers. The stories were difficult to follow. If you like ballet, I’m sure it is good.

I was hoping for as colorful a presentation as I saw in ads

by Gary on 4/6/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

Shen yun is well put-together, and I enjoyed the history and stories presented. But I would have appreciated as much color and movement as I saw in the many TV ads, where color upon color is layered on each other in a spectacular way. On stage, many acts had costuming that had been used in other acts, and while the backgroud digital landscapes were nice, very few displayed the spectacular-ness, if that's a word, that I saw on TV. The acts with props like fabric flowers and various ribbons were excellent, I just wish there were more of them. I did enjoy the two emcees who previewed each subsequent act. I'm glad I went, but I wouldn't go again.

    Very Talented Performers

by Steve P on 4/5/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

The performances were astounding with the exception of the two males singers. I think the production should stick to the dancing only. Along with the fabulous orchestra, it was a memorable evening. I could have done without the intervals of the right wing propaganda though which put a damper on the performance.

A Stunning Performance Diminished by Weird Propaganda

by Barby on 4/3/24Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

The performances of the various skits were wonderful, the background that takes the actors from the stage to the world beyond was wonderful. The heavy handed NO Atheism and NO Evolution by the two singers was disturbing. Also, the two singers were the least polished performers, but the message would still have been disturbing.

    Beautiful but marred

by Debbie on 4/3/24Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

The costumes and choreography, along with the live orchestra, are so beautiful. The grace, acrobatics and timing of the performers is a sight to behold. But there are two theatrical pieces and two solo songs pushing this religious group’s version of spirituality, and that gets a little old. Just show us more of traditional China without the preaching.
