About

Sarah McLachlan became one of most distinctive female vocalists after breaking out in the ’90s behind singles such as “Building a Mystery” and “I Will Remember You.” The Halifax, Nova Scotia native released her debut album Touch in 1988 and logged her first Hot 100-charting singles with 1994’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. Her 1997 effort Surfacing debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and hosted her three highest-charting Hot 100 singles: “Building a Mystery,” at No. 13, “Adia” at No. 3 and “Angel” at No. 4. The album went on to win two Grammy Awards. Surfacing also coincided with the first Lilith Fair, the wildly successful all-female touring festival co-founded and hosted by McLachlan that took place from 1997 through 1999 and became the top-grossing music festival of the late-’90s. 2003’s Afterglow marked McLachlan’s third consecutive Top 10 album, and she maintained that streak with studio albums released through 2014’s Shine On. McLachlan has won 12 JUNO Awards and in 2017 was inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

  • Lilith Fair

by wolfespirit on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

1st time to Lilith...The VIP for general admission seats is definately worth the cost for the best place to park yourself, then you can walk around and see all the artists and not have to be concerned for a great seat for the headliners! Don't forget your sand chair and blanket to sit on. The event was extremely well organized so you get to see every act even with three stages. It was a great way to see and experience lesser known artists...even the "On Stage Winner" was great! There were many booths to check out, too. (Loved those LUNA bars! and the much needed lip balm received from them.) Although the weather was perfect, if you forgot sun screen, Ouch!!! After the sun went down, it did get cold, so that blanket brought doubled to keep us warmer. Had the forcast been for rain, a good rain coat/poncho may be a better choice than an umbrella, so everyone can get an opportunity to see the acts. Oh... also, we were allowed to bring a camera, so long as it wasn't "professional." My camera has a flip screen and was told that because it can record video, I couldn't use it, even though I was using it for stills. That was a hugh disappointment. One last thing...The Gorge, which holds up to 20,000 people, in George, Wa is probably one of the most beautiful venues to see ANY concert!

  • Lilith was great but a few annoying parts .....

by Issaquah on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

Event was great. Beautiful sunny day, great music! My criticisms are: line-up for the event was not available until you arrived. We had no idea the "big names" weren't scheduled to start singing until 5:50pm. Had we known, we would have left later. Also, before the final act, we were subjected to a 20+ minute sit-com that delayed Sarah McLachlin's peformance. The audience was cold and tired, and we had to sit and watch a very "unfunny" episode of Cougar Town before the show continued. LAME!!!!!

  • Lillith was the best!

by maryas on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Show was absolutely great. Only thing that could have made it any better is if they would have had a big screen for those of us on the lawn to see the performer's faces.

  • Rockin' good shows.

by Milsam on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

Sheryl Crow & band were awesome. Enjoyed A fine Frenzy very much - wish there set was longer. Now I've got to catch up on some sleep. ;)

  • Lilith was awesome!

by Alegrialover on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

All of the bigger acts were really great. I was disappointed that the smaller acts were so far away from the main stage. I didn't want to risk losing my great seat to watch them, so I didn't get to see anyone before Colbie performed. Other than that, the show was awesome.

Sarah Mclachlan was incredible and a perfet ending to the show !

  • a mixed bag

by BevZ on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 3 out of 5

Overall, Lilith Fair 2010 at the Gorge was a pleasant musical experience. However, there are two negative aspects that are worth calling out: 1. The mix for Sheryl Crow's set was horrific. The bass was turned up way, way too far, as were the guitars. Her voice was lost, and the overall sound was distorted to the point of being un-listenable. I was actually forced to leave the area because I found it physically uncomfortable. The Sugarland set was way too loud but otherwise better mixed. 2. Subjecting the crowd to an episode of "Cougar Town" when they were fired up after Sugarland and ready for Sarah McLachlan? Idiocy. I don't care that ABC sponsored the event; that move made everyone angry. You want to show some media? Offer a side area for it and give people incentives to go watch. Don't force it on all of us. I know it's expensive to mount a tour like Lilith Fair, but the flagrant commercialism made it unlikely that I will go back, despite the quality of the acts and the spirit of the show.

  • Awesome Show!

    by MMH1 on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

What a great event. A perfect celebration of women in music. The weather was great, the bands were awesome, the view at the Gorge spectacular. It doesn't get any better than that. Best surprise was Sugarland. I really didn't know much about them and they put on a great show. Well worth it!

  • Sarah, Sheryl, Sugarland, were awesome!

by Anonymous on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Colbie Callait could of been a lil more exciting and she needs to dance more. Erica Badu sucked her music is just plain weird. Sugarland put on a great show and of course Jen can get down shes awesome! Sheryl was great her music rocked and her lil boy was adorable on stage dancing it made my heart melt!

  • Loved it!

by Turnergirl25 on 7/4/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - RidgefieldRating: 5 out of 5

Lilith Fair was amazing!!!! I have been waiting to see Sarah Mclachlan live for many, many years and she didn't dissapoint! Sheryl Crow rocked, along with all of the other artists. Erykah Badu was great too, even tho she came on stage 20 minutes late and due to that, only had time to sing 3 songs. The finale was amazng.....all artists came on stage and sang 'Because the Night' together.....AMAZING!!!

  • by Anonymous on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the concerts were great. The event staff were very accommodating of my sister who has disabilities and is medically fragile. The only suggestion I would have is to post the lineup schedule of which artist is performing online instead of only having it posted at the venue.

  • Lilith Fair...so disappointed

by tsemh on 7/4/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - RidgefieldRating: 3 out of 5

Everyone seemed off at the Portland Show. Gate opened 1.5 hours late, at least it wasn't 100 degrees outside, difficult to find the stages for the preperformance. The venue had letters, the handouts had numbers, and the staff (Lilith, not venue, I asked) was pretty much useless as to help you with anything, directions, information, timing, you name it. Eraka Badu sounded great, but had a horrible attitude you could feel from the stage. It started with a comment about black men, and the lots of scoffing if we clapped or cheered, like she didn't believe it. Colbie ROCKED, by far the best performance. Sheryl sounded tired, Sugarland was great, except the lead guy was really annoying. For someone playing rhythm and not lead, he sure did upstage everyone. Jennifers meadley was a great addition, incorporated Beyonce perfectly. Fun, fun, fun! Sarah was great, but not magical, expectations were set too high on my part. It just felt like all of the performers were off and didn't have the heart for it.

  • Stupid TV show at concert

by Clarese on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 3 out of 5

The showing of the ABC tv show cougar town on the big screens before Sara performed was disrespectful to the audience who came to see a concert. We were forced to sit through a stupid tv show. Mind you this isn't just the opinion of me and my friends, several people around me yelled "turn it off" during the broadcast. I paid a lot of money for premium seats to see Sheryl and Sara. ABC tv programming should not be a part of it....feel like I'm owed a partial refund. Sheryl and Sara were great by the way! Beautiful evening.

  • What a wonderful event!

by JHMLKTTT on 7/4/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - RidgefieldRating: 4 out of 5

I went to this event with 3 of my close friends and we had a great time. We were a bit surprised that no tent was available while it was raining and no umbrellas were allowed (although we saw many in use), but we made due eating our dinner scrunched under the overhang of the food building. It was great sitting on the hillside and listening to the beginning bands while basking in the glow of all the female energy around us. We got to hear a couple of groups we will definitely be purchasing their records and enjoy the vision of the many types of people that came out to support the event. As for the main acts, we enjoyed Colbie Caillat and look forward to her continued success. Couldn't have been more disappointed with Erykah Badu...her lack of respect for those that paid to see a full set and then her all important attitude, was a total waste of our time and money. But Sheryl Crow, Sugarland and Sarah McLachlan most definitely made up for it! We have never seen any of them in concert before and were absolutely pleased with the great charisma, stamina, and the ability to include the audience in the show. We felt the event was well planned and laid out and look forward to the next one and the next set of entertainers that will join Sarah. Thank you for all your time and effort in putting on a great show!

  • A must see event

    by Vicki82 on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

An all day event with some of the most talked about female performers of our time. from Colbie Cailatt to Sheryl Crow, everyone did an amazing job. I will go to Lilith Fair again and again.

  • For than meets the eye

by Envyangel on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

The show at the Gorge was fantastic! Even with the nose bleed seats, we could see wonderfully. My only complaint was that they didn't have a zoomed in feed on the big jumbotron screens. I would have loved to see Sarah singing on them. But my binoculars came in handy! The sound was great & all of the ladies rocked!

  • Fine Music...

by Adnoid on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 1 out of 5

The music and musicians were concert worthy, but the interruption after a rousing performance by Sugarland of a 30 minute in your face attempt by abc to promote a lousy TV series spoiled the entire event for me.

  • Lilith rocked three stages

by Kammiest on 7/4/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - RidgefieldRating: 5 out of 5

Sara and Sheryl were amazing. Many others were great also. Thank you. The vendors were very good. The ADA access was good.

  • Lilith

by watcherofconcerts on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 3 out of 5

Lilith was good but the venue seemed very unorganized. Gates didn't open at any published time, the time in the outside line was well over an hour with access occuring very slowly (website had posted 2:30 pm with gates opening around Noon). :isting of the confirmed performers were not posted anywhere prior to the event and the music started before most of the people were allowed in through the gate. The food prices weren't too out of line but any of the drinks were marked up well above where they should have been for what was available. The really odd moment was them showing us a full episode of Cougar Town before the final performer. Talk about a mood killer - everyone was in a musical frame of mind and then we were forced to listen to/watch a full episode of a tv show that none of us watch. I have never seen anything like that occur at any concert. I would go see Lilith again but due to this being my first exposure to the Gorge - I have no desire to go back to that venue.

  • kinda boring

    by moose2414 on 7/4/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 2 out of 5

Was disappointed at quality. Didn't know which acts were going to play @ Gorge till we got there. Was excited to see Miss Badu, but she disappointed. Didnt like Sugarland at all and left before headliner. Sheryl Crow was great though! Too much money and time for so little music.
