About

Sarah McLachlan became one of most distinctive female vocalists after breaking out in the ’90s behind singles such as “Building a Mystery” and “I Will Remember You.” The Halifax, Nova Scotia native released her debut album Touch in 1988 and logged her first Hot 100-charting singles with 1994’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. Her 1997 effort Surfacing debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and hosted her three highest-charting Hot 100 singles: “Building a Mystery,” at No. 13, “Adia” at No. 3 and “Angel” at No. 4. The album went on to win two Grammy Awards. Surfacing also coincided with the first Lilith Fair, the wildly successful all-female touring festival co-founded and hosted by McLachlan that took place from 1997 through 1999 and became the top-grossing music festival of the late-’90s. 2003’s Afterglow marked McLachlan’s third consecutive Top 10 album, and she maintained that streak with studio albums released through 2014’s Shine On. McLachlan has won 12 JUNO Awards and in 2017 was inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

  • Disappointed by some, encouraged by other

    by 1chachaDitty on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 3 out of 5

Early band line ups really good, as were Colby, Erika, Cheryl, Sugarland! Forced to watch 25 min clip of Cougar Town on big screen til Sarah came on, then she was mediocre. By that time the sun had gone down, temp had dropped about 25 degress & the wind kicked up. I was so cold and with no bumpin music to dance to, thought Sarah sucked! She messed up, actually said to the audience "how'd you like that singing" when she missed a high note. I leave it that she must of been cold too!

  • WoW!

by RavensCry on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

I was very impressed, thank you to all the bands who played... you rocked! My mother has been struggling through some serious rough waves in life right now so I had got an extra ticket to the show which I gave to her. I havent seen her smile in a long time and I was fortunately able to capture the joy which your event brought to her face in photo. I, myself, had a blast. I enjoy all kinds of music and was really blown away at how many songs I knew that Sheryl Crow played and how amazing Eryika Badu (forgive me if I misspelled her name) is ... Sugarland was so much fun and Sarah oh dear Sarah... you only made the night even better, listening to your beautiful sound out at the Gorge under a night full of stars ... It was heaven on earth. Thank you all for putting on an absolutly wonderful show.

  • Great show!

    by dmc07 on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

Sheryl Crow was fantastic, great Led Zeppelin cover at the end. Sarah MacLachlan sounded great and played a perfect set list with plenty of older classics and new stuff. My only complaint is that I wish the Lilith website had listed the schedule of shows - I had no idea what time each performance was starting so I couldn't plan my 3 hour drive very well.

  • awesome show but

by Muntion on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

the flow was completely ruined by the television show right before the last act it was like being beaten by something I don't care about for an hour. so even though Sarah was awesome I couldn't get back into it. Erika Badu was awesome.

  • lilith in gorge...

    by JoeC205 on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 2 out of 5

I thought lilith, esp. in the gorge, would be a very fun day. it wasn't. from the opening, security was very lax, allowing a mob to form as we went into the gorge. very unprofessional. in all the shows i've been to, i've never seen anything like this happen. from doors opening, to me being inside, i had missed the first three acts. as for the fair itself, it was nice to see alot of 'women power' vendors. but, what was more noticable was the corproate sponsorship. 'this stage brought to you by ABC'. i was looking forward to seeing A Fine Frenzy, as they (she) did not disappoint. Colbie Calliet told the audience that this is the biggest crowd she'd ever played to...and i believed her. Eryka Badhu was a surprise. i was sooo impressed by her. Sheryl Crow, idk, something was...off. Her set was, um, ok. Was that her son she was dancing with on stage? I only got fired up when she finaled with her version of 'Rock and Roll'. I was not really looking forward to Sugarland, but they were a pleasent surprise. Their songs, were, not bad (for country tinged rock). Esp. their remake of 'Who Says You Can't Go Home'. Between Sugarlands set and Sarah McLahlan, a full episode of 'CougarTown' was played...brought to you by ABC. Talk about a captive audience. As for Sarah, she opened with 'Angel'. A great song, but not the pick i would have chosen to open with. It is too bad that i never saw Lilith back in the day...I think i would have been more impressed. As for now...not so much.

  • lilith fair was amazing

by lucynsophia on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

my sisters and i had a blast... it was a beautiful day to celebrate with loved ones and other great women with their families as well. the weather was perfect! the gorge is the best place to be for an event like this... this should be an annual event to be a part of. Thank you Sarah and the other artists who made this possible..

  • Entire show was Amazing!!!!!

by KellyH24 on 7/5/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - RidgefieldRating: 5 out of 5

I loved all five acts. Sheryl Crow really pumped up the crowd, and Sugarland was out of this world. Of course, Sarah, as always, was incredible. She literally takes the crowd to another world. Her voice is so pure and angelic . I love her!

  • Lilith at the Gorge July 3

by Lilithlover on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

The experience wasn't quite as wonderful as I recall from the 1998 2-day event, but still an awesome experience. Grace Potter & the Noctournals injected the energy we concert goers crave, and can only be acheived on smaller more accessable stages. Sorry to have missed the local talent act, but the doors opened not long before the first gig, creating a stupendous line, so nearly everyone not a VIP missed those early acts. I wished that the large video screens would have used to display action on the stage for those of us sitting way back on the grass. The screens were static with a Lilith image until the introduction of an episode of Cougar Town as we waited for Sarah McLachlan was an insult in my opinion. I'm sure the ABC dollars were essential, but what a travesty to turn on the TV when we were in the concert and Gorge groove.

  • Sarah and Sheryl were amazing

by BMakua on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

The venue was fantastic. I have been listening to Lilith for years on CDs, but never dreamed that I would make to one of the concerts. I felt like I made it home to see long lost family and friends being there. It was quite moving for me when the live music started. What I would like to have for a future show? A single artist performing on a side stage in the main arena while waiting for the equipment to be set up for the next band. Like some ethnic female performers; foreign and Native.

  • Lilith in the rain!

by RainyinPDX on 7/5/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - RidgefieldRating: 4 out of 5

Great music, and a great event! Needs to be a lot more organized though. Schedule was never posted, and it was difficult to find any other times or details. Venue staff wouldn't let us into our seating area either. Would be a 5-star event if they could get organized!

  • Lilith - guys can have fun too

by Workingend on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Great event, superb music, tremendous variety, and a beautiful day. The Gorge just needs to find a way to get past the carnival quality food and this will be an awesome venue.

  • Love Lilith but I was disappointed

by EMHdoctor on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 3 out of 5

Overall the day was fun, but I was put off and disappointed by the showing of an episode of ABC's Cougar Town right before Sarah came on stage. I don't think it exemplified the spirit of Lilith Fair and it absolutely interrupted the flow of the whole concert. It put me in a bad mood for most of Sarah's performance. Lilith Fair is a wonderful idea but I don't know if I'd go again with ABC as a sponsor for the event.

  • Lilith

by froggierobin on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was amazing. The performers were FANTASTIC. The amphitheater was beautiful. The weather was perfect.

  • Lilith Rocked!

by Anonymous on 7/5/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - RidgefieldRating: 5 out of 5

Sheryl Crow wasn't what I expected at all. Maybe getting a little old? Sarah McLachlan is my favorite and she was great! Sugarland was upbeat and fun; definitely got the crowd going and into it. They definitely should have had more time to play.

  • Lilith was amazing!!!

by montanawoman on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Just a wonderful day. Well done artists and event organizers!

  • lilith fun

by SophieCHernandez on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

i've been to all 4 lilith fairs that have come to washington (gorge) and each one was fun in different ways. this weekend i enjoy tremendously because it was the most mellow of the bunch. it had great rushes of energy then would mellow out a bit then another wave of energy would hit. saw a few bands i've never heard of that were amazing and the crowd was kind and happy. every year, the one thing that was a constant is the crowd. everyone is just out to have a good time and there is an overall feeling of happiness and connectivity. this is rare in a crowd of 9,000+. i've been to many many concerts and there is normally an irritated crowd mentality. i thank sarah for bringing her sisters together and spreading her good intentions and love with us.

  • lotsof fun

by kcatb on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed the concert at the Gorge. Only part I would change was the ABC preview of Cougar Town right before Sarah. Sugarland got the house rocking and ABC just killed to mood. (probably should preview before the main event gets started) Once Sarah started singing the crowd was soothed! Her voice is phenomenal! Our group thought the concert could be hawking more wares! Bags, jewelery, more CD's, hats. It's a bunch of women we like to buy stuff! Also some flashlights and hand warmers for the cooler outdoor events! Overall a great time!!!!!

  • Lilith was the best!

by KiddingRight on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Concert was incredible!!! Getting into the venue (The Gorge - Washington) NOT!

  • Lilith is an event not to be missed.

by Barbsquared on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

I really never thought I would go to Lilith but when they came to my area I was not going to let this get by me again. The women were amazing, the energy is lasting and the venue was incredible. I love that it gives minor acts an opportunity to perform for larger crowds, they may be headliners someday!!

  • Wrong venue for this music

by TanyaH on 7/5/10Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 2 out of 5

The Gorge is a fabulous venue for bigger bands but not solo singers. We had lawn seats and I could barely hear some of the artists. The ABC show Cougartown was shown before the last act. I did not come there to watch tv in the cold. Lilith really lacked a kick, maybe if they had the Indigo Girls play it would have been more entertaining. I was really disappointed. Also, can the Gorge get decent drinks? I do not want to drink PBR out of a can for $9.
