Santana in Concert
Few musicians in the history of American popular music inspire the same reverence as Carlos Santana. For more than four decades, he has been one of the music world's most distinctive and exciting guitarists, maintaining his reputation as an artist who continues to revolutionize the form.
Long before listeners knew terms like "fusion" and "world music," Santana was already a master who blended genres and traditions into a sound that was all his own. It's no wonder the young guitarist generated so much excitement as a foremost member of the Bay Area's fertile music community of the late 1960s.
With the release of his debut album Santana and an incendiary set at Woodstock in 1969, Santana established himself as one of the key artists of the era, gaining worldwide fame for his band's combination of Latin, jazz, blues, rock, and R&B. The new star proved his staying power when Santana remained on the Billboard charts and successors Abraxas and Santana III both reached No. 1.
In 1998, Santana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In addition to racking up career sales of more than 100 million records, he earned another spot in history books when Supernatural — the multiplatinum 1999 album that included such hits as "Smooth" and "Maria Maria" — won nine Grammy Awards, tying the record for most wins by a single project.
In 2014, he published his best-selling memoir, The Universal Tone: Bringing My Story to Light. Among his recent musical endeavors has been Santana IV, a thrilling album that saw him reunite with musicians from his band's early-‘70s lineup; and Power of Peace, a deeply soulful collaboration with The Isley Brothers.
Santana returned with more new music in 2019. In Search of Mona Lisa is an EP featuring three instrumentals inspired by the awe he felt the first time he saw Leonardo da Vinci's painting during a visit to the Louvre. Santana continues to inspire the same reaction at shows by the current incarnation of the band that bears his name. His team of first-tier players includes drummer Cindy Blackman Santana (Lenny Kravitz, Pharoah Sanders), bassist Benny Rietveld (Miles Davis, Sheila E.), keyboardist David K. Mathews (Tower of Power, Etta James), and percussionist Karl Perazzo (Mariah Carey, Tito Puente).
Santana on Tour
Grammy Award-winning, legendary artists Carlos Santana and Earth, Wind & Fire embark on a North American tour. A continuation of 2019's Supernatural Now tour for Santana, the Miraculous Supernatural 2020 Tour marks the first time these two powerhouses share the stage in the U.S. The Live Nation-produced outing kicks off June 19th in San Diego and makes stops in Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Toronto, and more before wrapping August 29th in Tampa.
Santana, and his band (which also features Santana's wife, Cindy Blackman Santana) highlight songs from both his Supernatural and Woodstock eras, as well as newer tracks from his 2019 full-length album Africa Speaks and some incredible surprises. Earth, Wind & Fire is one of music's most celebrated musical forces in history with an iconic music catalog that has been the soundtrack of millions of lives around the world.
In 2019, Santana celebrated the 20th anniversary of his revolutionary, multiple Grammy Award-wining album Supernatural, along with the 50th anniversary of his Woodstock performance. Santana's 1999 album Supernatural featured the back-to-back No. 1 singles "Smooth" and "Maria Maria" and sold over 30 million copies worldwide, topping the charts in over a dozen countries and sweeping the 2000 Grammy Awards.

Steve Windwood was ok as an opening act, but Carlos and group was outstanding.
My parents love Santana, and so I grew up with his music. But no matter how many times I hear his records, nothing can ever compare to seeing him perform live. He is a rock legend, and his concert, of course, absolutely rocked!
The man is amazing. And he surrounds himself with other amazing artist. You can feel the bass and percussion coming right thru the soles of your feet. Add the brass section, and well, what can one say.....but truely Amazing.
First of all, sitting in the 7th row, almost dead center made the show seem larger than life. It's always a highly anticipated evening when it comes to seeing Santana. Now,add Steve Winwood, and it becomes a once in a lifetime opportunity! Winwood opens the show with a rousing version of I'm A Man.He and the band are as fine tuned as a Swiss timepiece.Winwood's expertise on the Hammond organ is legendary,BUT it's his AMAZING skill on lead guitars that will make your jaws drop!Over the last several times that I've seen him,he's strapped it on for several songs,Mr. Fantasy,Can't Find My Way Home,et.al.,and ripped some absolutely stunning leads to finish the tunes! In my opinion,he's UNDER RATED,and compares with Clapton,Beck,Guy,etc. Although I LOVE Carlos Santana,on this tour he's morphed his show into a 'club' atmosphere. That is,he's left out any of his melodic signature jams,i.e.,Europa,Samba Pa Ti,and instead has become a 'club' dance band. Not that THAT'S bad,but for any fans that expect to hear Santana's 'decades of hits' played like the studio cuts...FORGET IT! I mean, after he opens with a recognizable version of Yaleo from Supernatural, and FuFu,the tunes become bass THUMPING,OFF tempo, dance club booty-shakers.But,when your at a recent era Santana concert, that's NOT uncommon.I just went with the flow,EAGERLY I might add,and PARTIED along with the thousands of other 'clubbers' on the dance floor! As I said,EXPECT a HIGH ENERGY SHOW!
This was the best concert I have ever been to. The amount of energy Santana has in their shows is tremendous.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a show. From the first number to the last. People on their feet. Dancing in their seats. Skin was tingling. Drums awesome. This concert ranks up by the top. I would DEFINITELY recommend this show to ANYONE. It was well worth the money paid for this show. Santana almost can walk on water. GREAT SHOW>>>>>>>Keep up the excellent work......... His band members were energetic as well as awesome in their own right. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
About as crisp as I've ever heard him. I have seen every Santana concert at Summerfest that he's ever played except for one. His first trip to Summerfest was also the first concert I had ever attended (at the age of 14). Last night I took my 14 year old son to HIS first concert. He was blown away as was I. Great selection of new and old. Loved hearing a little "Pink Panther" and "Fever" mixed in. At one point they had some still photos of past concerts all the back to the 60's and 70's through today as they played Black Magic Woman and Oye Como Va. I got almost no sleep last night and I have no voice today. Simply spectacular!
Very energy abound show...loved it BUT it was WAY WAY too loud for the theater...we left early because of this. Its a shame because the music is wonderful...next time do a real sound check where you are!
WOW, that's all I can say. If you love and appreciate the talent it takes to be a musician, no matter what taste you have in music, you will love Santana. The band is so tight, there isn't a beat or note that isn't in perfect sync. And fantastic the light show just brings it all together in one super-high intensity visual and auditory experience!
Wow, what a GREAT show! They played a great variety of music from over the years, some with a latino flair that kept the crowd moving and shaking! Fun time! LOUD (maybe I'm too old) but an excellent show!
Great show. Loved the energy. Hate it that you have to stand the entire concert to see the stage.
Great show - Steve Winwood played for 70 minutes, Santana played 2 hours with NO break. Thoroughly enjoyed the show - varriety of old and new songs. His whole group were excellent performers. Well worth it !!
This is only my second Santana concert. He is so passionate about his work and does it brilliantly! When he plays one of his legend pieces, it's like you're hearing it for the first time. His singers and band members as just as enthusiastic. You can get mesmerized watching this great man perform. Kudos! The Marcus Amphitheater at and during Summerfest is the best place on earth for music! Love it, love it, love it.
I have been to his shows before, and this was incredible, amazing and unforgetable.
The energy with this group and Carlos Santana is great! The singing is good and singers get the audience involved. Can't say enough about Carlos - he is such a brillant guitar player and the lyrics are meaningful (unlike many other artists). Fun music with an unusual mix of jazz, latin and rock!
Great show! Thanks Carlos. Thanks Steve. You rocked.
Winwood was good and Santana should add some female vocalists. This being the first stop I am sure some of the bugs will get worked out down the road.
Steve Winwood opened and was good, he played an eclettic set from his body of music, and only played one hour and five minutes. His voice has not changed much though the years as he played as he played both keyboards and guitar. Santana on the other hand held the stage with a 10 piece band consisting of three percussionists, two drummers and a bongo player as well. He was on and joyful between songs he spoke candidly about peace, love, harmony, and co-existence. He mentioned the Divine creator several times and payed homage to the power and presence of Love in our lives. He played for just over two hours and played them all with fever and fury as you would expect, with two lead singers, including Latin soloist Ricky Martin. I give it a 9 out of 10 and if you have the chance to go and see the virtuoso, he was great and did not disappoint
Awesome guitar playing and crisp, right on interaction with his band. Carlos plays with some outstanding musicians who are clearly in tune and in sync with one another. They played an outstanding set for an AARP crowd that only half filled the stadium and couldn't show the enthusiasm Santana and band deserved. It was a privilege to experience that intensity of a performance for such a luke warm audience.
I was blown away by the energy at this concert. It just never ended. Santana is a genius. The best concert I've ever attended!
