Santana in Concert
Few musicians in the history of American popular music inspire the same reverence as Carlos Santana. For more than four decades, he has been one of the music world's most distinctive and exciting guitarists, maintaining his reputation as an artist who continues to revolutionize the form.
Long before listeners knew terms like "fusion" and "world music," Santana was already a master who blended genres and traditions into a sound that was all his own. It's no wonder the young guitarist generated so much excitement as a foremost member of the Bay Area's fertile music community of the late 1960s.
With the release of his debut album Santana and an incendiary set at Woodstock in 1969, Santana established himself as one of the key artists of the era, gaining worldwide fame for his band's combination of Latin, jazz, blues, rock, and R&B. The new star proved his staying power when Santana remained on the Billboard charts and successors Abraxas and Santana III both reached No. 1.
In 1998, Santana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In addition to racking up career sales of more than 100 million records, he earned another spot in history books when Supernatural — the multiplatinum 1999 album that included such hits as "Smooth" and "Maria Maria" — won nine Grammy Awards, tying the record for most wins by a single project.
In 2014, he published his best-selling memoir, The Universal Tone: Bringing My Story to Light. Among his recent musical endeavors has been Santana IV, a thrilling album that saw him reunite with musicians from his band's early-‘70s lineup; and Power of Peace, a deeply soulful collaboration with The Isley Brothers.
Santana returned with more new music in 2019. In Search of Mona Lisa is an EP featuring three instrumentals inspired by the awe he felt the first time he saw Leonardo da Vinci's painting during a visit to the Louvre. Santana continues to inspire the same reaction at shows by the current incarnation of the band that bears his name. His team of first-tier players includes drummer Cindy Blackman Santana (Lenny Kravitz, Pharoah Sanders), bassist Benny Rietveld (Miles Davis, Sheila E.), keyboardist David K. Mathews (Tower of Power, Etta James), and percussionist Karl Perazzo (Mariah Carey, Tito Puente).
Santana on Tour
Grammy Award-winning, legendary artists Carlos Santana and Earth, Wind & Fire embark on a North American tour. A continuation of 2019's Supernatural Now tour for Santana, the Miraculous Supernatural 2020 Tour marks the first time these two powerhouses share the stage in the U.S. The Live Nation-produced outing kicks off June 19th in San Diego and makes stops in Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Toronto, and more before wrapping August 29th in Tampa.
Santana, and his band (which also features Santana's wife, Cindy Blackman Santana) highlight songs from both his Supernatural and Woodstock eras, as well as newer tracks from his 2019 full-length album Africa Speaks and some incredible surprises. Earth, Wind & Fire is one of music's most celebrated musical forces in history with an iconic music catalog that has been the soundtrack of millions of lives around the world.
In 2019, Santana celebrated the 20th anniversary of his revolutionary, multiple Grammy Award-wining album Supernatural, along with the 50th anniversary of his Woodstock performance. Santana's 1999 album Supernatural featured the back-to-back No. 1 singles "Smooth" and "Maria Maria" and sold over 30 million copies worldwide, topping the charts in over a dozen countries and sweeping the 2000 Grammy Awards.

Santana Great - Winwood So-So
by hardware on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5I'd never seen either live in-person but I have seen them live on TV and on concert DVD's. That's probably the main reason that I was disappointed in Winwood's performance. I expected a performance similar to that on the Crossroad's DVD and it was far below that level. Steve just didn't seem to have his "A" game on his guitar - he's lucky he's previously rocked the guitar solo on Dear Mr. Fantasy because it sure wouldn't be considered legendary if it always sounded like it did on this night - messy. It's tough judging someone based on what was probably one of his best performances ever (Crossroads) but as Bruce Hornsby said....that's just the way it is! Santana, on the other hand, rocked the house from the first note - they blew the doors off the stadium and that's pretty hard when it doesn't have any to begin with! I could feel the percussion coming from the stage as if it were a force of nature. All of the band members must be exhausted after a performance - they earn their keep and Carlos....well - there are plenty of guitar gods but no one makes a guitar sound so smooth - almost violin-like. I'll see Carlos again. Steve? Well, maybe the DVD is all I need.
Santana now and then, and ALWAYS
by Trad510 on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5The current Santana Band is a well-oiled machine, and Carlos was magnificent in orchestrating the blending their sounds into wonderful windows for the soul. AND some amazing sights were seen! Familiar rhythms initiated the set, and the audience was ready to dance and was most appreciative. The band obliged with frequent jams that effectively expanded the well-known tunes into enjoyable NEW experiences. An exceptional excursion from Santana'srepertoire was an exuberant and explosive iteration of Cream's classic Sunshine of Your Love. This brought the vast majority of the crowd to their feet in mass celebration. Their 'final' number of "smooth" topped off a wonderful evening of mutual appreciation. However, the group was 'brought back' for an apparently most-welcome set of encore montages, and while some used this as opportunity to exit for the car, one was well-advised to remain for a great and joyous finale. Santana's 2 hours could have gone on forever, but respect allowed for some rest for the genius we enjoyed for this window on his creative fire.
Steve Winwood & Santana were fabulous!!!!
by notneb63 on 7/2/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5The opening act, Steve Winwood should have played longer!!! I love his music, and he deserves to play for more than an hour. The crowd wanted more Steve Winwood!!! Santana played for about 2 hours. Carlos Santana proved once again why he is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. The concert was fast paced and Carlos Santana had a terrific band with him. We especially enjoyed the horn section; they added that "extra something" to the concert. Santana played a nice variety of new and old hits plus a several other great songs. We enjoyed every song played!. We also enjoyed the comments that Carlos made between songs about music, peace and love. It is nice to hear the artist's perspective on what's happening in our world.. It was one of the best concerts that we have attended. Our only comment is that we wish the two great performers, Steve Winwood and Carlos Santana, had played a few songs together. That would have been the "icing" on an already fantastic concert.
Santana/Winwood concert of a lifetime
by MikePerkins on 7/2/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5The combination of Steve Winwood & Carlos Santana was amazing and quite unforgettable, it rates as one of the best shows I have seen in 38 years of concerts, they both still enjoy playing and it shows in their entheusiam & power.
Santana is a living legend
by Schantle on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5I have seen Santana 4 times over the last 25 years. He is still incredible. This setting was nice with a touch of open air, the only downside was the acoustics. Not very clear and it was much too loud. Still, great concert.
Santana is forever classic.
by LianAi on 7/2/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5Santana has so much grace, love, beauty, feminine energy and power and he transformed all that to his music and touched every soul and heart at the Xcel Energy. I cannot describe the overflowing joy and sheer experience with words. Thank you, Carlos, your musicians, composers, working crew members, for a beautiful and unforgettable night. From the bottom of my heart.
Santana was fantastic!
by laurel911 on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5Saw Santana with Steve Winwood as opener at Summerfest. The packed house, the music, the venue...couldn't ask for more!
Santana & Winwood = AWESOME!
by cluelo on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5I can't say enough about this show, possibly one of the top 10 concerts I have ever seen and I have been going to concerts for the past 35 years. Both Steve Winwood and Carlos Santana and their bands put on a show that was explosively entertaining. The audience was captivated from the first note right through the last note. Truly a memorable evening for anyone fortunate enough to be there.
Santana rocks!
by ShortNSweet on 7/2/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5The musical abilities of all the performers with Santana's crew were amazing and unforgettable. The sound system was a little bit out of kilter though.
Great show
by Brewman46 on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5Great energy and music. Santana gave their all. He knows how to reach an audience. Played most of his hits and kept the crowd standing. Great show.

by MYCATS on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5Excellent show, very fun, nice crowd, and worth seeing again.
classic santana enjoyed listening
by pevac on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5impressive drums segment black magic women sounded close to the "original" would prefer more singing an less instrumental The lights are blinding, the back panel screen displays videos that do not compliment the legendery quality of Santana"s music. In my opinion Santana is a mix of Pink floyd, Jimmi Hendrix, but I am a white boy.. hey :) I thought black magic women referred to a beautiful mesmerizing women, I would like to see a video clip of maybe Halle Berry .
Santana is still amazing
by Bingo63 on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5Carlos Santana is still one of the most incredible guitarists on the planet. He put on an amazing display with his band for over 2 hours - not bad for a guy who's been doing this for over 40 years! Santana has surrounded himself with a very talented grour of musicians who all seem to share his passion for performing. I first saw Santana 30 years ago, and he hasn't slowed down at all!!!!

by uworrn on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5The concert was simply the most amazing concert I have seen in years! Santana played with all their hearts and souls. I couldn't sit still I had to dance. Watching the video of the reminiscing of the previous years was a great touch.
Santana is energy
by spydy on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5Steve Windwood started the show right on time. Who would expect that? His show was awsome, I loved "Low spark of high heeled boys". Then Santana came on and mesmorized the croud with his incredible guitar. He can make one guitar sound like 100 guitars. "Oye como va", "Black magic woman", "Smooth" were so cool as well as the greatest drummers on earth. He certainly did not short change anyone, he played longer than I expected and produced an unforgetable event. At times his guitar and band sounded like a harmonic 4th of July fireworks.
Full of energy!
by MorelHunter on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5The lights and visuals were great. I loved watching Carlos play the guitar. He is amazing in how he makes the guitar sound. The concert was over much too quickly.
Winwood Rocked
by sillysnapon on 7/2/10Marcus Amphitheater Summerfest - MilwaukeeRating: 3 out of 5Steve Winwood did a great job but failed to offer a oncore although his music set was very good and well done. Santana was just Ok nothing too special some music unkown to many around me,,, but his music set was not anywhere close to what Winwood's was
