About

2014 marks thirty years since drummer and lyricist Neil Peart joined Rush and together with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson set forward a course that would change the very concept of how musical and complicated rock can be. These progressive rock revolutionaries blazed a trail that would eventually lead to their induction in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Over that long 25-million-record-selling journey, there would be two generations of ticket holders whose minds and faces were melted in concerts shows that are otherworldly exhibitions of musicianship. Whether tearing through international hits like "Tom Sawyer" and "Limelight," or playing the long album tracks beloved by their fans, rock's "holy trinity" never stopped reaching for new heights.

Still, even the most die hard of Rush fanatics were not be prepared for the burst of inspiration, thoughtfulness and musicianship that lead 2012's Clockwork Angels, the Canadian legends' 19th full length studio release, and arguably the best of the lot. Not only had they kept their clockwork precision, but also they had added a new passion and vision to their musicality. Whether in the studio or on tour, Rush has shown that when you come to define progressiveness in modern rock, your journey is never truly finished.

    It was okay...

by BizzEguy on 8/5/15The Forum - Inglewood

Not a bad show, but not really exciting either. Not super thrilled with the set list choices, but hey, I'm not in the band. I thought it was a little annoying that they didn't play Limelight and other classic songs.

    Rush in top form

by datsQwazy on 8/5/15The Forum - Inglewood

This is only the 10th time I have seen this legendary triumvirate, which is peanuts compared to some fans. That being said, each time was never lost on me. I have always walked away from a Rush show in pure elation, which lingers for days after. This show was no exception, in fact this is one of the best performances I have ever seen from them! Incredible musicianship combined with an entertaining stage show makes for a blast of an evening. The three hours went by in a blur. I would have stayed for 3 hours more! I truly hope I will see them again someday.

Grace under pressure! What a RUSH!!

by RyanSwan on 8/5/15The Forum - Inglewood

First, this was my 11th Rush concert...from 10 different tours. I was at the August 1st show, the last one of the tour of USA. It blew me away! By and far the most "complete" entertaining rock concert I have ever attended. Personally, I saw my favorite band play 3 of my favorite "deep cuts" that they do NOT play often: Losing It, Jacob's Ladder, and Lakeside Park. I love their entire catalog, but they only have so much time per show...I felt Rush put a lot of thought into their setlist. That night I witnessed 3 extremely talented "master" musicians perform a 3 hour show hitting ALL of the notes. BRAVO!

    The Amazing Rush

by DTFanFromLI on 8/5/15The Forum - Inglewood

Without question, for 41 years now, the band called Rush has been the ultimate blend of the best of 1970s British progressive rock (Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull) and British hard rock of the same period (Led Zeppelin, The Who, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple). Unfairly classified as heavy metal, the Canadian trio routinely mixed the edgier side of Zeppelin and Sabbath with the lengthier passages by their prog rock counterparts, to often stirring effect. On their recent tour, culminating in the August 1 show at the Los Angeles Forum, the final stop on their 40th anniversary campaign (it is actually the 41st anniversary of the trio as a recording and performing act), they take their fans back to their 1970s roots in a two-set performance which starts with the newest material, from 2012's Clockwork Angels, and continues in reverse chronological order, with select tracks from the 2000s, 1990s, 1980s, eventually ending with a spirited 1970s collection. Arguably, what most diehard Rush followers deem as the band's creative peak is the period when the band first coalesced and most adventurously experimented with their songwriting and musicianship: 1976-1981. Beginning the August 1 second set with two paramount tracks from 1981's Moving Pictures album, Rush received the biggest response from the audience, ostensibly filled with fans who recalled the album firsthand 34 years ago. Perhaps the band's most popular song, Tom Sawyer, began the set, followed by Red Barchetta, which had been an alternate to other Moving Pictures songs on the tour. From there, Rush played key tracks from 1980's Permanent Waves album, including the perennial celebration of their hometown Toronto radio station, the song The Spirit of Radio which has opened many a Rush show over the past 35 years. Alas, the best was still yet to come. Selecting key tracks from the album 1978's Hemispheres, 1977's A Farewell to Kings, and 1976's 2112 for their first live Rush treatment in many decades was bold, breathtaking, and surreal, given their rare inclusion in live Rush shows since the early 1980s. It is with these three albums that Rush cemented its following, locked in its sound, and aesthetically became the band which has been beloved since. In a sense, returning to this material for what could be the band's final major tour was the ultimate statement on who Rush are as artists and how their singular synthesis of classic British rock arrived at something that was at once an homage to the greatness of prog and hard rock's founding fathers and simultaneously made the band wholly original. In the encore section of the show, Rush returned to their first three albums, playing obscure tracks while reducing their trademark stage, light and pyrotechnics show to its earliest mid-1970s incarnation when they were an opening act for bands such as Kiss and played tiny gymnasiums in the Toronto area with amplifiers set upon classroom chairs. When Rush closed the show, in one of their rare instances of onstage bonding, drummer Neil Peart, likely the greatest drummer ever in rock music, joined bandmates Alex Lifeson (guitar) and Geddy Lee (bass, keyboards, and vocals) at centre stage for a group bow and possibly final goodbye. For many reasons, this was a tremendous moment in the life of the band and its diehard fans, especially seeing the trio, huddled together, saluting the crowd, with the notoriously shy and reclusive Peart right in the middle. With all three members now in their early 60s, and the days of 200 concerts a year with back-to-back one night stands long gone, Rush tours, this one included, have gotten shorter, have been divided by an intermission, and have had gigs spaced out between them. As such, the dynamics of the band have changed, and their fan following, though as strong and wide as ever, understands and has accepted this new relationship. That said, with Clockwork Angels representing some of their most ambitious recorded music in decades, one hopes that the band will continue to at least record new material and play select live dates if not embark on massive full tours.

    RUSH is RUSH!

by Scrooged on 8/5/15The Forum - Inglewood

The last show of their 40 year tour was held in the L.A. Forum. It was an amazing and sad event at the same time, knowing this is probably the last show of any major tour they have and will ever do again.

RUSH goes out on top, period!

by Anonymous on 8/4/15The Forum - Inglewood

There is no greater live act than RUSH. After 40 years they are still powerful, precise, and dedicated to putting on a tremendous show. If their performance at The Forum on Saturday, August 1st, was their final farewell, then their legacy will remain intact as the greatest rock band of all time.

R40 - A Fitting End to an Era?

by Ocram on 8/4/15The Forum - Inglewood

The last night of Rush's amazing "R40" tour at the Fabulous Forum in L.A. was bittersweet for me. Bitter because members of the incredible power trio have suggested that this may have been their last large scale tour -- due to health issues (Alex Lifeson's arthritis) and family commitments (Neil Peart's young daughter). Sweet because it was one of the best Rush shows I've seen (and I've seen over ten of them over the years, including their well-deserved induction into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame in 2013). The band could've opted for a "greatest hits" type show, but instead rewarded their longtime fans with a setlist that came from every major era in their four decade history. Per usual, the visuals were great and the videos funny and entertaining. (They even brought out a Kiss cut out to poke fun at their longtime friends in that band for whom they opened so many years ago.) The show proceeded in reverse chronological order, and their musicianship on gems like Hemispheres and Cygnus X-1 was astounding. They ended with "Working Man" from their debut album, and threw in the riff from "Garden Road" (one of their first tunes that only hardcore fans would recognize). Whether Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Professor Peart tour again remains to be seen, but on this the last night of their 40th anniversary celebration, they cemented their place in musical history and certainly gave their fans a party we'll never forget. As their heroes once said, "Long Live Rock!". As we now say, "Long Live Rush"!!!

by EdtheRushfan on 8/4/15The Forum - Inglewood

The concert was amazing in every sense of the word. Apart from the service being fantastic and the venue being great, the only down side to it all was that it had to end. The concert itself was one of the best concerts iv been to.

    Amazing Amazing Amazing!

    by Athene2112 on 8/4/15The Forum - Inglewood

Words cannot express my gratitude to this band for 40+ years of quality music, lyrics and live shows. What goes into each and every album (and tour) is above and beyond and no matter what, you can always expect the best. I've been a fan since I was 12 years old, and I've grown up (and old) to their music. Thank you Rush! Hope to see you again sometime.
