About

2014 marks thirty years since drummer and lyricist Neil Peart joined Rush and together with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson set forward a course that would change the very concept of how musical and complicated rock can be. These progressive rock revolutionaries blazed a trail that would eventually lead to their induction in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Over that long 25-million-record-selling journey, there would be two generations of ticket holders whose minds and faces were melted in concerts shows that are otherworldly exhibitions of musicianship. Whether tearing through international hits like "Tom Sawyer" and "Limelight," or playing the long album tracks beloved by their fans, rock's "holy trinity" never stopped reaching for new heights.

Still, even the most die hard of Rush fanatics were not be prepared for the burst of inspiration, thoughtfulness and musicianship that lead 2012's Clockwork Angels, the Canadian legends' 19th full length studio release, and arguably the best of the lot. Not only had they kept their clockwork precision, but also they had added a new passion and vision to their musicality. Whether in the studio or on tour, Rush has shown that when you come to define progressiveness in modern rock, your journey is never truly finished.

R40: Was Not to be Missed

by RushSB on 8/4/15The Forum - Inglewood

Great retrospective of a deep catalogue. Missed a couple that I would have liked to see, but then again, included some I did not expect to hear live. Lifeson was just about perfect. Lee's vocals demonstrate that he's still got a range of octaves left to go. Peart always amazes. Overall, couple of minor, minor hiccups less than a handful of times.

    RUSH R40

by ADrugAgainstWar on 8/4/15The Forum - Inglewood

RUSH's final tour (for now) was one of the best staged shows I've seen in decades. Giving fans a sample of everything that RUSH has been for the past 40 years. Starting with Clockwork Angels and working their way over the course of 3 hours to their debut album "RUSH". Staging morphing throughout the set from their elaborate amp rigs to 2 simple amps propped on chairs by the end. This was a epic poem to fans who have held true to this band for 40 years. Sound and Imagery were completely on point the entire night. Hitting you between the eyes with songs like "Distant Early Warning" and "Subdivisions". Moving moments when they performed a song they've never done live "Losing It" featuring Jonathan Dinklage on Violin. Kicking back into their second set with the blistering "Tom Sawyer" and "Spirit of Radio". Overall this was an incredible send off for a band who has been consistent with fans, and absolute road dogs for the course of their career.

Rush Rocked It - As Always!

by AstronautD on 8/4/15The Forum - Inglewood

These guys never fail to put on one of the best rock shows of any group. Their stage presence, musicianship, theatrics, and their chemistry from being friends and musicians for over forty years just adds to the performance. Started at 745pm and ended a little after 11pm. Nor bad for three guys over 60. Neil Peart, "The Professor", never misses a beat. He's the heart of the group. Alex Lifeson with his amazing guitar skills, moving flawlessly from lead to rhythm and in and out of time signature changes and tempos is the soul of the band. Geddy, the master of bass (and keyboard/synth), is the breath of the band, belting out lyrics just like when he was in his twenties and jumping around on stage like a flea, juggling vocals, an instrument, and pedals. I sincerely hope that this IS NOT their last time touring!

    Rush rocked the forum!

by Ezelivin on 8/4/15The Forum - Inglewood

Amazing time, flat out, Rush rocks. The Instruments and vocals were tight. They still got it. Enjoyed the playlist, more current hits to rapping up the show with the classics. Only disappointment was the show had to end, be a shame if it truly is the fair well tour!

I am still amazed at how awesome these guys are after 40 years. Sure Geddy can't hit the notes he used to, but he makes up for it in how he sings the songs. Just amazing.

Excellent R40! There may not be an R50.

by mdrod1 on 8/2/15Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre (formerly Verizon Wireless Amph) - Irvine

Rush has been one of my all time favorite bands since the 70's! R40 is the culmination of 40 fantastic years of Rush music. The show was fantastic in all it's musical and visual glory! The guys performed great and the sound quality was perfect. The concert was divided into two parts with an intermission in between. The first half featured the newer songs and they really rocked. The second featured the glorious songs from their golden age! They performed songs that they rarely do. "Natural Science" and "Cygnus X1" to name a few. It was a treat to see them back in their theatrical musical mode performing these great classic songs! unfortunately, Neil Peart only did one and a half drum solos this time as compared to three on the "Clockwork Angels" tour. That's okay, because the rare songs they played made up for it! The venue was not the best. Irvine Meadows is now under new management and I think they are trying to improve things. It was actually better than previous shows that they have hosted. But the crumbling facilities, miles long walks uphill from parking lot to seats and the nature of some of the fans at this particular facility will keep me from ever coming again! Aside from that, we had a great time and the show was moving and memorable! Catch Rush while you can, because who knows what the future holds for this phenomenal band! I highly recommend them!!!

    RUSH in Vegas

by RoosterGene on 8/2/15MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas

Excellent show. RUSH is amazing and Groovy! If you "get" Rush, this is as good as the Hemispheres tour, Clockwork Angels, and Time Machine. Well done.

    Rush was awesome- as usual!!

by pjcm on 8/2/15Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre (formerly Verizon Wireless Amph) - Irvine

I admittedly haven't followed Rush's recent material as much as their older stuff. The R-40 concert was done in reverse, including at least one track from most of their albums except for a few (Power Windows, Test for Echo, etc..). The choice of songs was for the most part excellent, with the tastiest tracks thrown in from the most recent releases, as well as a song or two you would never expect them to do these days (Natural Science, Lakeside Park, etc...) Their quirky humor and tendency to not take themselves seriously showed in the video vignettes played throughout, and made for a fun night. The opening vignette, while fun, shows how they evolved over the 40 years, and came with an accompanying bit soundtrack of their songs through the various periods. This gave me chills, as they are easily one of the hardest working, most creative, humble and talented bands that have ever graced our planet!

by edeuning on 8/2/15Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre (formerly Verizon Wireless Amph) - Irvine

I've seen many concerts/bands over my 34 years of concert going. Rush is by far the best live band I have ever seen and Thursdays Irvine Meadows show was no exception but the rule.

    Rush in Irvine

by JTBB on 8/2/15Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre (formerly Verizon Wireless Amph) - Irvine

Oh wow! As an avid concert goer I can honestly say, this was one of the best shows I have ever seen! It amazes me that three guys can sound like they do. Just incredible! There were a number of high points. My favorite song is Far Cry. That was great. Cygnus was amazing. I thought that Xanadu was great. I am sure that I speak for many others in that I hope they will continue to perform. Even if its a mini tour every now and then. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Simply Amazing. The BEST LIVE BAND EVER!!!

by asandop on 8/2/15US Airways Arena - Phoenix

These guys pour it down with musicianship and top class. They make fun of each other but treat their music so seriously. Respect and love each other. They seem to be 3 regular guys but when they go at it (play their music) it seems like is an orchestra performing. There's a reason they were voted the best live band on the internet. Without being Mainstream!! You got to see them to know why. Amazing show. I can cross now one of my bucket list items as I was very fortunate and honored to share this concert with my son and being his first concert ever! what a double treat.

    Outstanding R40 Rush Concert

by ThePartyMan on 8/1/15US Airways Center - Phoenix

Once again, Geddy, Alex and Neal pulled all the stops out and performed a fabulous concert. Rush is still at the top of their game. The entire concert was organized starting with the most recent album, Clockwork Angels,. then they went backwards through their extensive catalog of albums playing key songs from many of them. At the same time, their stage equipment was changed to reflect the period of the album.

If this is it, they went out better than ever!

by myst4234 on 7/31/15US Airways Center - Phoenix

Wow is the one word description. Geddy still can hit the notes, the band was tight, and Alex was on fire tonight... Have seen them approx 10 times over the years and they never dissapoint. They were so tight and seem to still be having fun... I am hoping that they decide that it was not the last tour after all as I would sure hate to think the ride is over!

    Awesome. Always Awesome.

by NighflyAZ on 7/31/15US Airways Center - Phoenix

In the last 33 or so years of going to Rush shows I have never once left the arena disappointed and this was no exception. From "The Anarchist to Working Man" the trio delivered a high energy performance that had the crowd standing for the entirety of the 3+ hour performance. "I wish I could live it all again..."

    R40 ≥ what came before

by DisplacedNative on 7/30/15MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas

Who, in any line of work, can claim to have been at the top of their game for four-plus decades? Well, the Canadian Rock Triumvirate can! These guys still have it, and they probably will even after they decide to leave the road behind them. Thank you, Rush, for giving your fans so much enjoyment during this headlong flight!
