Female lead (Nellie) lacked spunk. Her voice was good, but acting was weaker. Male lead was fabulous. I did not care for Bloody Mary's voice. Ensemble members were outstanding.

The music and voices were awesome!!! The actress who played Nellie really played her part well. The actor who played Emile and the actress who played Bloody Mary had exceptional voices.

Did not like some of the cast, the sets were minimilistic, and the pacing was slow.

Not nearly as good as Drury Lane Oak Brook. The male lead was almost impossible to understand . The stsge/set was very minimal.

    Disappointing!

    by Sadly001 on 2/27/12Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I love the musical South Pacific, but I did not love this rendition. The vocals were not energetic enough and Emile's french accent was too thick to understand much of what he sang. I did not know going in that I was to be privvy to two men coming out of the shower stalls naked (holding a towel over thier front parts when they spun around). I don't pay to see things like this and if it happens again in this theater, I will look elsewhere for entertainment.

Wonderful play, the actors were great, and the theatre was beautiful. I would highly recommend this play. Even though we were in balcony seats, we could see real good. The only thing, is the concession stand prices, are outrageous. That's the only complaint.

Terrific "Nelly" and "Emil" but balance of cast just OK. Thin orchestra.

    wonderful!

by evanbear on 2/27/12Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We really enjoyed the performance. It was very hot in the theater and I would recommend dressing in layers to allow for that. Could see very well. I have seen this movie many times so I am very familiar with the story line, no surprises for me. However, musically this has always been one of my favorites and seeing the musical at Cadillac did NOT disappoint me!! It was wonderful. Easy to see from many different areas. ok took advantage of the assisted hearing devices that they have. These really helped me. interesting that they would ask about photos as we were told firmly, no photographing allowed at all. not even of the theater.

Good acting, great energy. Our family group ranged in age from ten through seventy, and everyone had a fine time.

The show has lost none of the lustre since we first saw the musical 50 years ago. This performance was top " Broadway" in every aspect - the orchestra - the singing - the acting - the cast. The songs are still ringing in our heads. And the ride on the South Shore from South Bend to Chicago is so smooth, so inexpensive and so stress free! We had a delightful weekend.

Overall, was just splendid.I loved it even more when I learned that it was a non-union production. It can be done and well, at that.

I have to say that was one of the worst musicals I have seen in a long long time. The leads were weak, the ensemble songs were weak....set design was far too minimal for a production such as that.

Kudos to Marcello for a magnificent Emil DeBeque

by LuvsSondheim on 2/27/12Cadillac Palace - Chicago

A fun resurrection of the production of "South Pacific". The two male leads were wonderful, especially Emil -- his wonderfully warm, rich baritone was beautiful. Unfortunately, Kate Reid was a lackluster Nellie. The portrayal of Bloody Mary was downright creepy -- played more sinister than I have ever seen. Lyat was stunning and her dance to "Happy Talk" was lovely. Billis was a great comic relief along with the rest of the male chorus. I was distracted by the rather stilted blocking - and the lack of chemistry between the lovers. It may have been an "off" performance so I would still recommend it. There are 2 other points which I have to complain about: Concessions should not sell items wrapped in heavy cellophane that crinkles loudly through a performance -- wrap it in plastic or something else. The couple behind us was eating the pretzels throughout the first act making a lot of noise with the wrapping. All of us around them were distracted. In addition, Concessions should not be serving alcohol to someone is obviously intoxicated which the person behind us was. He talked throughout the show loudly no matter our requests for quiet.

    South Pacific Superb!

by JGuerrini on 2/27/12Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I saw the movie and was not quite sure what to expect from the play. It far exceeded my expectations! All the actors are extremely talented. The singing and dancing, as well as the acting, were phenomenal. They really brought you into the story and made you feel how the characters felt. Many emotional ups and downs throughout the performance. The actors were perfectly picked for their individual parts, making you believe they were that character. Would love to see it again! Bravissimo!
