This show was entertaining and enjoyable. South pacific was no miss Saigon, which I would give 5 stars. This gets 4.

I wasn't familiar with the story and I still enjoyed it. Talented singers and dancers! Funny and entertaining.

    South Pacific drowned

by MerlieGirl on 2/16/12Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This was a ground-breaking musical in its day, dealing with race relations as well as having the most beautiful score. Unfortunately this version seemed dated and slow and much too long. The lead, although lovely was stiff and the whole cast seemed to need a kick start. There were so few instruments in the orchestra the sound engineer should have ratched it up a few notches. Maybe it should have taken place in Afganistan. Sorry, I'm used to better theater.

    A lot of fun

by LongtimeWSSFan on 2/16/12Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We thoroughly enjoyed the show. Great songs, nice staging, good singing. Sure, there were relatively minor things - the baritone's accent is spanish, not french, Nelli's accent is occasionally not so Southern, but none of those interfered with a good time. We went opening night, so we were worried that it might not be "all together", but since this was in the middle of their national tour, no problems were seen. And it's amazing how well this show has held up. We winced a lot when we saw West Side Story last summer - great show, but the dialogue is pretty dated. Here, it all seemed very normal

The role of Nellie was the best I have seen including the movie and other stage productions. The Seebees were hilarious. Very enjoyable
