  • Most recent in an outstanding continuing series

by Anglophile on 11/11/24The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I've been seeing Richard Thompson solo and with bands for 40 years. His concerts never fail to deliver great songs, great musicianship, surprises, humor, warmth and deep rapport with the audience. I'm glad to be one of the "old people standing"(as Richard put it at The Fillmore) to appreciate Richard and band's artistry in person for as many times as possible.

  • Stunning concert in a iconic venue

by Fretlessdude on 10/22/24Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Having seen Richard Thompson several times over the years expectations were high. And I was not disappointed. The band was in a very good shape. A good part of songs from the new album. Teddy Thompson joined beautifully for two songs and accordion-player whose name I missed joined for Tearstained Letter. Not Pete Zorn but less can do

  • Richard Thompson is a great entertainer

by Larry on 10/22/24Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Richard Thompson and his excellent band played acoustic and electric music with great virtuosity. They played classic oldies and new songs from his great new album. Also Richard’s self-deprecating hunor was as sharp as ever. His grandson is in the band and a great guitarist that could some day rival Richard, and the duets with Teddy Thompson were simply magical and beautiful. Great show!

  • Fantastic

by Dmel on 10/21/24Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

It was such a pleasure seeing RT work with a band (and grandson)! He is truly remarkable as both a songwriter and guitarist. Great song selection, just wished he played longer!

  • Amazing to see Richard Thompson in NYC!

by Shelbsthomcat on 10/21/24Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Seeing Richard Thompson in NYC, at The Town Hall, was a dream come true! Especially on electric guitar with a live band. They all sounded great. I hope he returns again soon!

  • Town hall …. Richard Thompson

by Chris S on 10/21/24Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Richard was in great form as always. It was my first time seeing him electric. Very different setlist but amazing guitar. His grandson was a standout as his playing is similar to his grandfather. Very enjoyable show. The venue at town hall has great sound.

  • Great show/venue

by Martin on 10/17/24The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

In the weeks prior to the show, I suffered an injury that impaired my mobility. Staff at The Wilbur were extremely helpful getting me in and out. Great concert, great venue staff.

  • Evening with a musical legend

    by Randy B on 10/16/24The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Richard Thompson has been a trailblazer for nearly six decades. That was on display at his Boston show which drew upon each period of his career. With a disarming sense of humor, and a stellar band, Richard Thompson demonstrated why he has few equals.

  • A great concert in a tired, old, uncomfortable venue

    by John D on 10/16/24The Wilbur - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Richard was in great voice, the band was strong and supportive, he played many of the old favorites and new songs is written. Very enjoyable.

  • Recapturing the Essence

by David on 2/28/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Richard’s performance was spot on in terms of his approach to these songs vocally and as one of the finest solo acoustic guitar acts there is. In every case he recaptured the essence of these songs beautifully. There’s nothing better than three encores (except maybe four). When he played Beeswing he conjured her as if she was in foreground of his consciousness as he sang. The feeling was palpable to me as if the sadness and regret were floating around the stage before him.

  • Richard Thompson was amazing as always.

by Bill on 2/28/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Ticketmaster drops the ball again. You said it was the Electric trio when it was solo acoustic. You really don't care about patrons just money. If we didn't have to use you ...you would be out of business. THE WORST

  • Intimate Setting - Great Show!

by Rachael on 2/27/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

We had a wonderful night at The Birchmere. The sound and light quality were fantastic and we could see very clearly. This venue attracts folks that are actually interested in the show.

  • Living Legend Delivers

by Mr Davidpap on 2/27/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

If you ever get a chance to see Richard Thompson perform live, you must go! At the Birchmere for acoustic shows (solo) on back-to-back nights he was superb! Virtuoso on the guitar with a large catalog of great songs. Thumbs way up

  • A real talent.

by Tom on 2/27/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

Great songs of course. In strong voice and a real guitar slinger, even on acoustic. Couple of slip-ups with the lyrics … doing this night after night, losing a touch of focus, it’s understandable. Added to the personal nature of the evening, in a smallish venue.

  • So Glad to Be Live Again

by Ivana on 12/7/21New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Venue was easy to find and close to several hotels. I drove up from the DC area to my hero Richard Thompson. He was in fine form and the audience (more empty seats than I have seen at a RT concert in a long time) was knowledgeable and attentive. All the staff was professional and courteous and the Covid-19 protocols were not a burden. One of the ushers, Cynthia, was particularly lovely (I always arrive early) and I enjoyed chatting with her before the show. My sight lines from my seat D2 were excellent and I was pleased to see RT without any encumbrances. I did notice a rather large gentlemen several rows in front of me struggle to sit comfortably in his seat. I wondered about handicapped seating and whether or not it was available for someone such as him. The seats are not very comfortable. Restroom was clean and bright.

  • Mesmerizing

In top form. Awesome room. Nice set. Virtuoso performance!

  • Why did I wait so long?

by Stemron Dwanckenhute on 6/30/21Whitaker Center - HarrisburgRating: 5 out of 5

I was raised on Richard Thompson (at least Fairport Convention) and love his work. But because he is one of those touring workhorses who seemed to always be coming through town, I kept putting off seeing him. Then COVID hits and I'm like, dammit, that guy is old and I'll hate myself if he goes the way of Toots Hibbert (who I also neglected to see and was on top of my "next to see" list, alas). Thankfully, Richard did not and I grabbed the first tickets I could get as he started up his never ending tour again. Finally to the point: Amazing show. He and the audience at the Whittaker Center were clearly done with being pent up. His playing was just insane, he was funny and engaging, took the call outs for songs by drunken ex-hippies with grace, played the hits, played new stuff, hell, played for over two hours. Really, really great performance. For a guy who kind of has the reputation for music you listen to while crying into your whisky, slowing drowning in your bathtub, his delivery couldn't have been farther from it. And, good god, how he could take something like 52 Vincent Black Lightning, already perfect and perfectly instrumentally dense and cram even more into it without it seeming like he was trying, I just can't even begin to assess. This guy. You need to see this guy.
