About

REO Speedwagon are one of the definitive American arena rock bands to emerge in the ’70s,  selling over 40 million records worldwide across 16 studio albums. Formed in 1967, the band’s 1978 album You Can Tune a Piano, but You Can't Tuna Fish launched a streak of nine consecutive albums earning an RIAA Platinum certification or higher, but REO reached truly rarified air with their Diamond-certified 1980 album, Hi Infidelity, which spent 15 weeks atop the Billboard 200. Hi Infidelity hosted the band’s first Hot 100 No. 1 single "Keep On Loving You" as well as its Top 5 follow-up "Take It On the Run," and the band would top the chart again with “Can't Fight This Feeling” from 1984’s Wheels Are Turnin’. REO Speedwagon have remained a touring force, organizing several co-headlining treks with genre heavyweights Styx, Chicago and Def Leppard. In 2022 alone, the REO and Styx joint tour earned $25 million. As of 2024, REO Speedwagon is made up of lead vocalist Kevin Cronin and bandmates Bruce Hall, Dave Amato, Bryan Hitt, Derek Hilland, and Matt Bissonette.

    These guys can still ROCK!

by Razman on 7/3/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Event Center - Verona

All three bands played with an energy and enthusiasm I have rarely seen in my many concert going experiences, including younger acts such as Dave Matthews. They played a great mix of hits and lesser known tunes. Styx even did an amazing cover of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus." For about four minutes I thought John Lennon was in the house! If you get an opportunity to see these bands jump on it -- you won't regret it!

reo 38 special styx concert review

by susmiester on 7/3/09Mohegan Sun Arena - Uncasville

38 special opened with great songs and energy forgot how many songs i remembered of theres. Then REO came out and rocked the house saw them in concert at milwaukee summerfest in 1984 and they were just as good now except for kevin croonen preaching i yelled howly lowya a few times just for laughs but all around they were good. Now for the sad part of the show STYXs thought they would have been the best of the three but what a let down NO Dennis Deyoung songs i guess he owns most of the styxs song because believe it or now they played a beetles song in the mix guess they didnt have enought styxs songs to play what a let down. The songs they did play come sail away, ect. were good but miss the deyoung years I.E lady , ect. ooh well hate to say it but it would have been a good concert with no complaints if styxs didnt show up. for the money 38 special and reo should go on there own let styxs sort out their internal rifts without my money.

    Once again, they bring it!

by JeanR on 7/3/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Event Center - Verona

I am never disappointed when I see REO Speedwagon or Styx and this was no different! And, 38 Special was a great addition to the ever-entertaining line up that has become so popular in the pairing of REO and Styx. Just when you think it can't get any better, they pull out another oldie but goodie and rock it even HARDER! I will always jump at any chance I get to see these bands, whether alone or together, or with other bands. This concert was absolutely everything I knew it would be! Turning Stone Casino is a great arena- not too big, not too small. Just perfect.

Concert was loads of fun with Styx rocking the house. REO Speedwagon had some sound quality issues, but Styx was the best.

    38 WAS Special

by alexlaw2u on 7/3/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Event Center - Verona

38 Special started the show with a bang. Vocals were strong, pure and true to original songs. I was surprisingly blown away. Styx came out and slowed the show down. Vocals were very good. The crowd got a little quiet. They saved most of their crowd favorites for the end which got the crowd pumped up again. REO Speedwagon was great. Vocals were good however, a little strained. I enjoyed the use of the screens to show past clips of the group. Many crowd favorites were performed. REO brought out Styx for a concert ending jam together. The tour, as a whole, was exceptionally well put together. The light show and use of screens were excellant. The best drummers (all three groups) I,ve ever seen. I particularly, went to see REO. However, 38 Special stole the show.

    STYX stole the show

by betty427 on 7/3/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Event Center - Verona

The show started on time with .38 special getting the crowd into the music, but STYX should have been the headliner. They sound great and they really play to the crowd. Tommy Shaw and James Young are great guitarists and the band has great chemistry on stage. They just rocked! REO was good, too. The final encore was great with both STYX and REO on stage together for a song. REO sounded good, but there was too much delay between songs.

    REO, STYX, 38 SPECIAL

by FMFM on 7/3/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Event Center - Verona

This was a great show and I highly recommend it. It was a four hr show with great video effects in the background. Although a big problem was that there is no alcohol served at Turning Stone Casino, NY and you can't bring anything in. also once you enter you cannot leave so if you have a room and want to run for a drink you can't re-enter. . I recommend seeing this show elsewhere.

MANY GREAT HITS, BROUGHT BACK MANY GREAT MEMORIES. STYX WAS THE BEST IN MY OPINION, 38-SPECIAL WAS GOOD TOO. REO DID THEIR BEST, THOUGHT THERE MUSIC WAS TOO LOAD FOR THEIR STYLE. tHOUGHT THE COLLECTION AT THE END OF BOTH BANDS WAS FANTASTIC. THAT REALLY ROCKED. ALL THAT TALENT ON ONE STAGE WAS REMARKABLE

    Styx blew us away!

by kathiep on 7/3/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Event Center - Verona

Can't stop rockin tour-Styxx can stil rock! Although Tommy Shaw must be pushing 60-he is still the showman. High energy to say the least. His keyboardist almost steals the show with his theatrics and amazing skills.38 Special was a great warm-up act. I stil love them.REO Speedwagon seemed like a downer as the last act. They look and seem tired.(again-some are pushing 60!) Loved the old concert footage from REO.Of course I was a teenager in the 80's so I remember all the hype and big arenas. All in all for vintage rockers all 3 bands were great. I was transported back to high school for 4 hrs. and loved every minute of it!

    STYX Rocked the House!!!

by ForeverYoungCouple on 7/3/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Event Center - Verona

STYX rocked the house!!! .38 Special was started before we got there and ended real soon thereafter, didn't see much of them. Did I mention that STYX brought down the house? An incredible 4th of July performance by STYX that left you feeling proud to be an American and proud to be an '80's rocker. REO Speedwagon put us to sleep and we left. Did I mention that STYX brought down the house? An incredible 4th of July performance by STYX that left you feeling proud to be an American and proud to be an '80's rocker. Sincerely, Forever Young Couple
