RAILROAD EARTH IN CONCERT:
Progressive bluegrass band Railroad Earth combines virtuosic musicianship, extensive improvisation, and psychedelic visuals to deliver a world-class concert experience that's rooted in tradition yet firmly forward-looking. The group's rootsy, Americana-infused sound takes on new dimensions at their live shows, where amplified mandolin, guitar, and lap steel combine to create a mind-blowing swirl of bluegrass instruments. The band totally rocks out as they bring tracks like "Elko" and the 15-minute "Like a Buddha" to life on tour, inspiring ear-to-ear grins and euphoric dancing among concertgoers.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
New Jersey-based Railroad Earth formed in 2010 around the songwriting of former From Good Homes frontman Todd Sheaffer. Under the guidance of manager Brian Ross, Sheaffer linked up with a group of talented bluegrass players, and the success of their initial jam sessions gave birth to Railroad Earth. Within several months the band had already released their debut album The Black Bear Sessions and performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where their high-energy set knocked fans’ socks off and earned them a deal with Sugar Hill Records. In 2002 they released their sophomore album Bird In A House, supporting it with a string of boot-stomping performances that floored fans across the country, who began calling themselves “hobos” in honor of the band’s vintage Americana leanings. A string of popular albums followed throughout the ‘00s, and the band’s rigorous touring schedule in support of the releases established them as festival favorites. In 2014 Railroad Earth released their seventh album Last of the Outlaws, a critical success that led to a sold-out show at Red Rocks and a concert DVD release of the epic performance.

I'm new to STL so first time at the Pageant. Great venue will definitely be back. rEE was terrific as always. Saw them in Atlanta a few weeks earlier and They had the full brass going. Was hoping for some of that but guess they were playing it a bit more traditional for the Midwest crowd. Still and always a great show!
As we often do, we really enjoyed RRE's New Year's show runs. This is the second time we have driven seven plus hours to see RRE for New Year's and it is always well worth it.
i enjoyed railroad earth with great friends to kick off new years celebration. the lighting n sound was great. the crowd was live jamming to the music. i will attend again when the band returns n invite more friends.
Great venue! Great staff! Great show! Best experience in a long long time.
First night of Railroad Earth at Variety Playhouse was great! Second time seeing them for me, my wife, and our 19-year old son. Band was tight and they are all so versatile. Loved the addition of Sheryl Renee! Only complaint was the light show which seemed to have no rhyme or reason and bore no relation to the music. It was as if a five-year old (or a monkey) was running amok on the light board. Also way too many lights pointed directly in our eyes instead of the stage. Otherwise, a great experience.
Great show. They seemed to play forever... enjoyed every minute.
Railroad Earth as always was great! Hackensaw boys also very entertaining Noticed improvement to the theater and the sound was right on
This band just gets more amazing every time I see them.. I haven't been to as many shows as I would like. But the ones I have--- AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have been following Railroad Earth for well over 10 + years. Their music and talent has evolved into a wonderful mix of American Roots music, Bluegrass/New Grass and intellectual funk fusion with a twist of New Orleans jazz. It is difficult to place these fine musician's in to any one musical genre. What we find most amazing is the fan base is made up of a mix of young and older folks, pure hippies and hippie wanna-bees, Doctors, Lawyers, accountants as well as Moms and Dads with their children. Great fun guaranteed. We highly recommend downloading a few of their shows - its is well worth the money - especially if you are not able to get out and see a performance live and up close. The band members remain very focused and even after all of these years, they are still very approachable. Thank you RRE!!
Seriously cool show. Crowd could tell they loved playing the Sherman!
This was a great, high energy show. They rocked through the whole first set. The second set was also great, with a centerpiece of 1759/Goat. They really connected with the audience through the whole show, but seemed surprised at the applause at the end. They did play Elko, but I forgot to bring cards. Oh, well. I'll remember next time.
This was a fantastic 2 night event... Friday night a 4 piece horn section from Stroudsburg really added a special dimension to the show...they were outstanding! Saturday night was an awesome jam session...Thank you RRE!
Railroad Earth in Cleveland was a spectacular show. They strike a great balance between true bluegrass and rock n roll. They can also jam!! This was about my 10th show and easily was my favorite. They'll be in Columbus this summer, can't wait to see them again (just need them to move that show from inside to outside!!!)
What a great night of music. Not the usual RRE set of standards tunes. They jammed the hell out of every song. And the In Memory of Elizabeth Reed encore was crazy good! After getting shut out of one of the last ABB show at the Beacon a week before because of Gregg Allman's illness, hearing Liz Red was especially gratifying this night. We will definitely be back for more.
So, my brother drug me to this show as it is one of his favorite bands, so I was not really looking forward to the music per se, just a chane to hang out w/him. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the music. The opening band, Dead Winter Carpenters, were surprisingly good. They had an energy that set things up for RRE. When RRE took the stage, things kicked up a notch. The energy was palpable throughout the venue. The music got everyone dancing and up on their feet for the majority of the show. The songs were bluegrass, of course, but also had a jangly jam vibe as well. They were clearly in their element when they were non-vocal and just jamming along. If you like bluegrass or jam bands, don't miss out on RRE when they & their Hobos come to your town!
I didn't know anyRailroad Earth music but knew sort of what to expect as a good friend loves this band. I can see why. They won't come through Charlotte again without me being there.
Outstanding band; outstanding venue. They played to the legend. Went two of 3 nights on this run and both were awesome. Best set was 2nd on Friday.
Yarn opened the night with a great 45 minute set that I wish had been extended. They are getting better each show and they will be a lead performer at venues like the National soon. Railroad Earth had me hooked after their first two songs. They are like a combination of the Seldom Scene, Old and In the Way and the Allman Brothers that forms into a great band. The beginning of the show was a psychedelic flashback in a great musical venue. What a great night.
I had such a blast! Railroad Earth really know how to put on a good show. I danced the night away.
