About

RAILROAD EARTH IN CONCERT:

Progressive bluegrass band Railroad Earth combines virtuosic musicianship, extensive improvisation, and psychedelic visuals to deliver a world-class concert experience that's rooted in tradition yet firmly forward-looking. The group's rootsy, Americana-infused sound takes on new dimensions at their live shows, where amplified mandolin, guitar, and lap steel combine to create a mind-blowing swirl of bluegrass instruments. The band totally rocks out as they bring tracks like "Elko" and the 15-minute "Like a Buddha" to life on tour, inspiring ear-to-ear grins and euphoric dancing among concertgoers.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

New Jersey-based Railroad Earth formed in 2010 around the songwriting of former From Good Homes frontman Todd Sheaffer. Under the guidance of manager Brian Ross, Sheaffer linked up with a group of talented bluegrass players, and the success of their initial jam sessions gave birth to Railroad Earth. Within several months the band had already released their debut album The Black Bear Sessions and performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where their high-energy set knocked fans’ socks off and earned them a deal with Sugar Hill Records. In 2002 they released their sophomore album Bird In A House, supporting it with a string of boot-stomping performances that floored fans across the country, who began calling themselves “hobos” in honor of the band’s vintage Americana leanings. A string of popular albums followed throughout the ‘00s, and the band’s rigorous touring schedule in support of the releases established them as festival favorites. In 2014 Railroad Earth released their seventh album Last of the Outlaws, a critical success that led to a sold-out show at Red Rocks and a concert DVD release of the epic performance.

The show in St. Louis was incredible! The band took it to another level. They were entertaining, fascinating, and completely rocked it out. I will always return to see Railroad Earth.

  • Railroad and Rowan!

by Anonymous on 12/6/13Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

Unbelievable show! Of the many shows I have been to, and there have been many, this combination of Old and in the Way with Railroad was killer. They would be foolish not to take this on the road for the rest of the country to experience. Absolutely, the best show ever gone to.

  • Vintage Performance!

by deerjeff on 12/3/13Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 4 out of 5

What a pleasure it was hearing such a great album being recreated by both old and new artists. It could be clearly seen how much the band members enjoyed playing together. Good for the soul!! The Sherman should look at their policy of GA vs seating. This should have definitely been a reserved seating show. The Shermans focus seems to be on overselling the venue, and selling alcohol than the quality of the experience, so sad

  • Railroad Earth and Peter Rowan - Old and in the Wa

    by msmith620 on 12/3/13Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing. Railroad Earth and Peter Rowan doing Old And In The Way was outstanding and was a joy to see. Railroad Earth did their usual great performance, but when you add Peter Rowan and do Old and in The Way with one of the original members of that group it brings things to a whole new level never reached by the band. Railroad also went back to their roots and did an outstanding set on there own of old time songs.

  • Railroad Earth a band that's must see live

  • Old and in the Way

by RRETMC on 12/2/13Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

Transformative, historic, spiritual, soul affirming experience captured through a timeless link between Jerry Garcia and bluegrass legend Bill Monroe. Peter Rowan fronted while Railroad Earth supported musically a captivating review of "Old and in the Way."

The Bands performances were epic! Our reserved seats were center and Row 31. There was a good deal of confusion in the crowd regarding reserved seats vs. GA. Most Red Rocks patrons are used to GA. So i saw some arguments arise when people showed up late to claim their reserved seating. It was even rumored that only rows 10- 40 were reserved. More confusing. At row 31, The sound was loud and mostly mid and high range. Unless you are a loud concert lover (which I am) Bring Ear Plugs as i would be willing to bet the db range was <100. Towards the end of the show i moved down to row 5 seats 14-15. Bass was much richer and the screaming mid and high range was more balanced. BTW bathrooms were 250 stairs away at row 31. 30 stairs away from row 5. Overall I was very happy with the Concert.

  • Pleasantly surprised

Went to the show for Greensky Bluegrass and was blown away by all three bands. Such a beautiful venue and great energy with wonderful people. A very nice woman asked if we'd like to be in the spot she'd been saving for her friends all afternoon...which was dead center, 5th row. Awesome-spectacular-overall GREAT musical performance by all. Railroad Earth was so in sync and you could feel it all across the crowd. Can't wait for their next appearance!

  • off the rails!!!

Great venue and awesome show. Love Greensky Bluegrass and Railroad Earth!!! Galactic not so much. The Boulder Theatre was a great show at a more intimate venue.

  • Utterly amazing!

by linderz on 7/16/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first red rocks show of the season- I can't believe it took me so long to get back there this summer. Not only was Galactic and Railroad completely unforgettable, but there is absolutely nothing better than listening to great music in the most beautiful venue in the world. It sucks that we missed Greensky because I know they are great too, but I will have to catch them next time. Can't wait to go back in a few weeks for Cheese

  • Oh mama ain't it good to be alive!

by Fleck on 7/16/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing performance and setting. The acoustics were amazing and sound quality superb. The crowd was happy.

  • RRE was good, Galactic made me laugh

by BeefSteak on 7/16/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 3 out of 5

Green Sky was new to me, and quite good. Galactic started off decently with Corey Glover tagging along. Unfortunately, they crumbled into an aural assault of self indulgent crap. It was so shockingly bad by the end that I couldn't quit laughing...were they playing a joke on us? RRE played well, but struggled to regain the audience after Galactic played 50 decibels louder.

  • Way too Late

by ivoryhunter on 7/16/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 1 out of 5

it was great show but way too late...people in Colorado are active and love to hike bike fish you name it on the weekends...there was simply no reason they could not have been done by 12...got to bed at 3...i loved the show but it ruined my Saturday and was not worth that....

  • by Anonymous on 7/16/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

railroad earth was incredible as always. The combination of Galactic made the experience epic and Greensky Bluegrass was phenomenal too!
