RAILROAD EARTH IN CONCERT:

Progressive bluegrass band Railroad Earth combines virtuosic musicianship, extensive improvisation, and psychedelic visuals to deliver a world-class concert experience that's rooted in tradition yet firmly forward-looking. The group's rootsy, Americana-infused sound takes on new dimensions at their live shows, where amplified mandolin, guitar, and lap steel combine to create a mind-blowing swirl of bluegrass instruments. The band totally rocks out as they bring tracks like "Elko" and the 15-minute "Like a Buddha" to life on tour, inspiring ear-to-ear grins and euphoric dancing among concertgoers.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

New Jersey-based Railroad Earth formed in 2010 around the songwriting of former From Good Homes frontman Todd Sheaffer. Under the guidance of manager Brian Ross, Sheaffer linked up with a group of talented bluegrass players, and the success of their initial jam sessions gave birth to Railroad Earth. Within several months the band had already released their debut album The Black Bear Sessions and performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where their high-energy set knocked fans’ socks off and earned them a deal with Sugar Hill Records. In 2002 they released their sophomore album Bird In A House, supporting it with a string of boot-stomping performances that floored fans across the country, who began calling themselves “hobos” in honor of the band’s vintage Americana leanings. A string of popular albums followed throughout the ‘00s, and the band’s rigorous touring schedule in support of the releases established them as festival favorites. In 2014 Railroad Earth released their seventh album Last of the Outlaws, a critical success that led to a sold-out show at Red Rocks and a concert DVD release of the epic performance.

  • Not your father's country band

    by saint33 on 3/8/10Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

Don't let the banjo fool you; this is no bluegrass folksy gathering. These are some hard core musicians who pentrate the surface of many definable genres of today's musical landscape. Every song gathers intensity as the jammin' evolves, and your whole body and soul react to its invitation to frolic. PP is a great venue for such fabulous talent who respond with a sincere intimacy and increased energy of their musical performance.

An excellent venue (Penns Peak) to see them play to an appreciative audience. Pretty laid back but very excited feel from the crowd. The new bass player looked like he was having fun. The mandolin and fiddle back-and-forthing was phenomenal. Loved seeing one musician go from saxophone to banjo - and even play two saxes at once. The musicianship was amazing! So much fun! We danced our toes off!

  • I LOVE RAILROAD EARTH

by Merrmidd on 12/14/09Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

I can't even begin to explain how incredible this band is. This was the second time I've seen RRE and it was even better than the first. The venue was awesome, and so perfect for a band like railroad. Very intimate, and felt like the bands were playing just for us. Infamous Stringdusters were a wonderful start to the night--and even though their van had broken down only hours before the event, they were on time and ROCKIN their bluegrass jams. My sister and I were front and center the whole night, having the time of our lives. My parents were on the dance floor most of the night too--these two bands are perfect for all ages, and as we were all saying all night, this music makes you so happy to be alive. Not only do they rock with unbelievable talent, they are also so nice! We had the pleasure of talking to members of both bands in between sets. They were all very willing and pleased to meet us devoted fans. Please see both bands, please go to this venue. It was an unforgettable night.

  • Railroad Earth & Infamous Stringdusters AMAZING

by Merrmidd on 12/11/09Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

I am so thankful I was able to be at this show last night. Infamous started around 9:30 and were absolutely fantastic, I really think they are going places. Railroad Earth played 2 sets and I could have stayed all night listening to them, they were truly incredible. I had the pleasure of meeting lead singer Todd Sheaffer between sets. My sister, friend and I were a little starstruck and he was extremely friendly and sat with us for a few minutes before "getting back to work" and going on to the next set. The entire show was so special and my sister, friend, parents and I were all dancing in the front row until the show ended at 1am. I look forward to many Railroad shows (and Infamous Stringdusters) in the future. Thank you!

  • Outstanding Show!

These guys get better every time I see them. Very tight show. Played lots of their greatest hits. Hope they go back in the studio soon. I honestly don't understand why they aren't more popular.

  • Up close and personal with RRE at The National

by Anonymous on 10/1/09The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

The National was a great, intimate venue for seeing one of our favorite bands - Railroad Earth. The band was at its finest and a being right at the stage was an extraordinary experience. The opening act was unexpectedly good - talented musicians and entertainers.

  • One of the best shows ever!

by NicknameKK on 9/30/09The Plaza Theatre - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

Once again Railroad Earth performed like they were playing for 10,000 fans instead of the 200+ that filled the Plaza Theatre. A terrific, fan friendly venue with comfy seats and lots of dance space. It was easy to get up close and personal as the band played. Truly some of the best musicians on earth (ha-on Railroad Earth!) They are tight and smooth and push themselves to play their hearts out. I simply loved being there and really liked the Plaza theatre.

  • Railroad Earth good jam

by cooterconcrete on 9/28/09The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

The National is an excellent place for a show. The open floor down stairs and seats upstairs is a nice set up. The choice of beverages is excellent. Railroad Earth played old and more recent tunes with a nice mix. The ability of band members to change instruments and rock with them all really keeps you on your toes.

  • Great tunes, great time
