RAILROAD EARTH IN CONCERT:

Progressive bluegrass band Railroad Earth combines virtuosic musicianship, extensive improvisation, and psychedelic visuals to deliver a world-class concert experience that's rooted in tradition yet firmly forward-looking. The group's rootsy, Americana-infused sound takes on new dimensions at their live shows, where amplified mandolin, guitar, and lap steel combine to create a mind-blowing swirl of bluegrass instruments. The band totally rocks out as they bring tracks like "Elko" and the 15-minute "Like a Buddha" to life on tour, inspiring ear-to-ear grins and euphoric dancing among concertgoers.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

New Jersey-based Railroad Earth formed in 2010 around the songwriting of former From Good Homes frontman Todd Sheaffer. Under the guidance of manager Brian Ross, Sheaffer linked up with a group of talented bluegrass players, and the success of their initial jam sessions gave birth to Railroad Earth. Within several months the band had already released their debut album The Black Bear Sessions and performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where their high-energy set knocked fans’ socks off and earned them a deal with Sugar Hill Records. In 2002 they released their sophomore album Bird In A House, supporting it with a string of boot-stomping performances that floored fans across the country, who began calling themselves “hobos” in honor of the band’s vintage Americana leanings. A string of popular albums followed throughout the ‘00s, and the band’s rigorous touring schedule in support of the releases established them as festival favorites. In 2014 Railroad Earth released their seventh album Last of the Outlaws, a critical success that led to a sold-out show at Red Rocks and a concert DVD release of the epic performance.

  • RRE just gets better and better

by PCMa on 1/31/11Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

Not the hottest I've seen them play, the second set was a bit too slow at times, but the band just gets better and better. First time at the Uptown which I thought was the perfect sized venue. Railroad Earth is a very danceable band and the venue really isn't set up for that, although folks were dancing in the aisles and not a fire marshal in sight. Can't wait till they make it back to Northern Calif.

  • Railroad Earth!! Outstanding...other attendees F-

Railroad Earth is an wonderful band!! Their skill with their instruments shine and they are a delight to hear and watch. They made people want to dance and sing!! This is a good thing. However, the Uptown Theater Napa is not site to for dancing in the aisles. I was banged into numerous times by people dancing next to my seat...people moving in and out of their seats in our row stepped on me several times and otherwise made the concert somewhat unenjoyable. I spoke to the security guys about it wondering why this was allowable. He told me they had complaints from patrons because they couldn't block the aisles... What is up with that?? I mean there are times and places for dancing at a concert, but his place isn't it. It really wasn't built for it.

  • Awesome show!

by Anonymous on 1/31/11Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Very up-beat show with most everyone up and dancing the entire time. The newly renovated Uptown Theater is a great venue. The highlights of the show were: The Good Life, Seven Story Mountain, and Black Bear. They played some great new tunes from their recently released CD during the second set.

  • Opening act Great American Taxi was a great treat!

by Sonomacutie on 1/31/11Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

This was a rocking night. The energy level and dancing in the aisles made it so much fun. The opening act, Great American Taxi, was a surprise to me, and they were AMAZING!! Great musicians, especially the lead guitar. Railroad Earth and Tim Carbone were all that I have come to expect of them. Great Music, great energy! Count me a fan of both the bands from now on!!

  • Great Show

Railroad Earth is one of the new great Jam Bands to go out and see. Highly recommend, especially in a small venue like this one.

  • $50 for DJ music???

by Towelie on 1/6/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 3 out of 5

My husband and I were HIGHLY disappointed in the New Year's eve show. First off, the show time on the ticket said 8pm. We strolled in at 8:45 expecting the opening band to be in the mist of their set, just DJ music. Second, once the opening act went on they only played several songs and again we listened to DJ music. Once RREarth took the stage they started off strong and the crowd was into it...they kept going back to slow stuff and for a new year's party it was a drag. Then, you guessed it...MORE DJ music. A couple of minutes before midnight they showed up again with a hokie countdown and a great Doors cover. We thought now things are going to jam, but no...more slow stuff. The band used to really read the audience and go with the flow, now they just were playing for themselves. This was our fourth time seeing RREarth and now the last. We left early. They were our favorite to go see and now we are on the search for a new favorite.

  • Perfect way to end the New Year Weekend!!

    by abd9981 on 1/5/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show and definitely worth seeing if you have the chance!! We caught their extra night that was added in Denver and it was worth every cent! They will appeal a wide audience. Do not miss RRE!

  • Perfect addition to an awesome new years!

by hippyle on 1/5/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Elephant Revival was fantastic! SO glad i got there early enough to see them! Railroad Earth did not disappoint and even came on early to perform with ER. The crowd was great and defiantly fed off the energy on stage. Thank you Ogden for an awesome night, if you could only lower your beer prices!

  • Great nite

by sjdrex on 1/4/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

RRE was there on fire and Great American Taxi was a great compliment to the evening. What a treat to see them both at a venue like the Ogden.

This would have to be one of my top new year's celebrations I've had! When Vince Herman came out dressed like baby new years and threw joints into the crowd at midnight, it was great! Man, oh man, really spectacular music too!

  • Great Band Disappoints Greatly

by GregDofDenver on 1/3/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 2 out of 5

I love Railroad Earth - I love them! Best touring band out there! And I was thrilled at the opportunity to see them over New Years Eve, I could not imagine a better way to ring in the new year. Sadly for me and my friends, my build up just made our fall that much farther. Let's start with midnight: this band has all these great songs and they play the throw-away obnoxious song "Bringing My Baby Back Home" at midnight? What a crime! What about one of your many well written song more appropriate to the passing of one year and the start of the next, like "...Still Got A Long Way To Go"!? The 30 minute noise that passed as The War Head Boogie was an awful cacophony of sound and noise was painful - the song fell apart in the jam (as did several others on this sad evening). The setlist was uninspiring, the jams were more noise than music and of the dozens and dozens of RRE shows I have faithfully attended this may have been the worst I have ever seen. Too bad it was my NYE choice. I URGE THE MEMBERS OF THE BAND TO LISTEN TO THE RECORDINGS OF THIS SHOW AND YOU WILL HEAR EXACTLY WHY SO MANY OF YOUR FANS HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT. I love you guys, I am one of your biggest fans - but I really feel (as do others) you all really blew that show. -Greg D. Denver, CO

  • On the train with Railroad Earth

by ThomasE on 1/3/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

The last time I saw Railroad Earth, they were an opening band. I was on the train then and now that they are the headliners.....the rail just got bigger.

  • Incredible

by Dancingman on 1/3/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Went to Thursday show and then back again on Saturday. What an incredible group of muscians. It's amazing how they can bring guest artists onto stage with them and make them feel like part of their group.

  • by Anonymous on 1/3/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

the venue was oversold for the type of music. At a bluegrass show people like to dance around. There was no room for that. Limited tickets should have been sold to create more room in the venue

  • by Anonymous on 1/2/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

These guys put on an amazing show!! One of the bands out there to see live

  • by Anonymous on 1/2/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

This band was amazing. They are the best live band in the world. See them before you die - they are a definite "Bucket List" band!

  • Railroad Earth

by gudnurse on 1/1/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Saw 1st and second sets. Don't know if there was more. The "5 minute" break between sets was 40 or 45 minutes long. That is just plain rude for the band to do that to their fans. Maybe it's more of an Ogden thing??? Otherwise, it was good.

  • RRE Thanksgiving

by tkock on 12/1/10Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

This great band performed their new album from start to finish for the first set. The set was recorded for a future free video release. The second set was one of the finest sets of music I have ever had the privilege to witness - period. If you have not yet heard Railroad Earth, please do yourself a huge favor and seek them out - immediately. The Sherman Theatre does a wonderful job hosting great music. Please support them. Thanks again, RRE.

  • Railroad Earth blew the roof off!

by DooDahMan on 11/29/10Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

Railroad Earth is well known for providing an unforgettable concert experience. Their annual 2-day run at the Sherman Theater has become a favorite holiday tradition for the RRE faithful and an opportunity to see and hear them at their finest. This year was no exception, in fact, it was the best yet! Thank you to all who contributed to the success of this fantastic weekend.

  • Best G..D... Jam Band Ever!

    by Diz196th on 11/29/10Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

They return to the Sherman Theatre in Stroudsburg, Pa. every T-Day weekend, & always put on a stellar show. They performed every song from their just released self-titled album on their first set. Second set from previous releases.
