RAILROAD EARTH IN CONCERT:

Progressive bluegrass band Railroad Earth combines virtuosic musicianship, extensive improvisation, and psychedelic visuals to deliver a world-class concert experience that's rooted in tradition yet firmly forward-looking. The group's rootsy, Americana-infused sound takes on new dimensions at their live shows, where amplified mandolin, guitar, and lap steel combine to create a mind-blowing swirl of bluegrass instruments. The band totally rocks out as they bring tracks like "Elko" and the 15-minute "Like a Buddha" to life on tour, inspiring ear-to-ear grins and euphoric dancing among concertgoers.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

New Jersey-based Railroad Earth formed in 2010 around the songwriting of former From Good Homes frontman Todd Sheaffer. Under the guidance of manager Brian Ross, Sheaffer linked up with a group of talented bluegrass players, and the success of their initial jam sessions gave birth to Railroad Earth. Within several months the band had already released their debut album The Black Bear Sessions and performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where their high-energy set knocked fans’ socks off and earned them a deal with Sugar Hill Records. In 2002 they released their sophomore album Bird In A House, supporting it with a string of boot-stomping performances that floored fans across the country, who began calling themselves “hobos” in honor of the band’s vintage Americana leanings. A string of popular albums followed throughout the ‘00s, and the band’s rigorous touring schedule in support of the releases established them as festival favorites. In 2014 Railroad Earth released their seventh album Last of the Outlaws, a critical success that led to a sold-out show at Red Rocks and a concert DVD release of the epic performance.

  • Railroad Earth - Cornmeal

by Cigarsam on 11/22/10The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

One great show. Both Railroad Earth and Cornmeal are the best in the business. They pull out all the stops. Great musicians that cut no slack. First time hearing Cornmeal and was shocked at how great they are. Have seen RRE many times and look forward to seeing them many more.

  • RRE does it again

by CooterWhite on 11/21/10The National - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

RRE played a great show. They played a lot of the new album but a few oldies like Black bear. The National is a good place for a show, but there was a private party upstairs which limited the seating area. This forced the ones who wanted to sit, down stairs with the ones that didn't.

They are a great band. The venue was clean and nice.

Wow, this was an amazing performance by one of the best touring bands of our generation.

  • RRE at the Ark - Incredible!

by Bigrick on 11/9/10The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

The band was spot on. The crowd was a pleasant mixture of Ark regulars and RRE uber-fans. The kids, they danced and shook their bones (to borrow a line from another band's song). I have seen Railroad Earth before and knew what to expect. My wife and our good friend (visiting from Virginia Beach, VA) were both pleasantly surprised by the complexity of music and superb musicianship that RRE brough to Ann Arbor. Thanks to the Ark and to Railroad Earth for sharing live music in such an intimate venue.

  • Amazing live show!

by Apathiest on 11/9/10The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

Railroad Earth's great recorded music only hinted at the AMAZING live show they put on at The Ark in Ann Arbor. See them live if you get a chance! There isn't a bad seat in the house, but some are better than others. I like the sure thing so I buy the reserved seats.

It was great to see RRE again. Played two sets which was great but didn't seem to have their usual stage presence. Music itself was superb as usual.

  • Railroad Earth at Paradise Rock

by ShorelinefanCT on 11/1/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Quality of musicianship and connection with the audience was superb. This was my first experience at a Railroad Earth concert, and I was astounded that the event could match or surpass my expectations. I'm ready for the next concert. For everyone who missed it, Next time don't hesitate.

  • Poor acoustics

by Yeahbut on 11/1/10Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

I had seen RRE before. In fact, one fo the best shows of my life was RRE in Flagstaff, AZ, but the acoustics were great. I was right in front of the stage and up front there, but at the Paradise, I was lucky to find a place up on the balcony. I had a hard time distinguishing the vocals. They seemed too bassy, and the highs sounded tinny. I brought a friend that had never heard the band before, so he didnt get a fair hearing.

  • Railroad Earth...always a great show!!!

RRE never disappoints! Awesome songwriting, spectacular multi- instumentation that is intricate yet soooo easy to groove to....do yourself a favor and see for yourself..... get to a show!

  • Railroad Earth Delivers in Seattle

by Stargazer1 on 9/30/10Showbox at the Market - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Seattle was amazing !!!!!! The song's they played were emotion on string's. The show was full of energy and they had everyone dancing in a whirling dervish . They touched the soul of everyone in the room that night . I would catch every show if I could of this band. They are some of the most talented musician's I have ever seen. I do believe it is money very well spent in these tough times and one very nice gift you can give yourself . Looking forward to their new album this month very much !!!!!

  • No one else!

by drumgrass on 9/28/10Showbox at the Market - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

I love Railroad, The jams are not mindless .They actually go somewhere .Their musicianship is unparalleled. What makes them different from Cheese {also great} is Todd's song writing. Outstanding songs. They just get better and better.
