PURITY RING IN CONCERT:

Canadian electro pop duo Purity Ring deftly combines soaring melodies and shimmering atmospherics to create an etheral soundworld that consistely captivates ticket buyers. Frontwoman Megan James forms a direct connection with her audience in concert, relating tales of heartbreak with her sincere and pristine vocals. Producer Corin Roddick mans the swirling synths and blossoming basslines, creating a rich tapestry for James’ voice to float above. In addition to their carefully crafted interplay, the group also adorns the stage with illuminated decorations that move along to the melody. Fans won’t want to miss the visual splendor and aural beauty that Purity Ring brings to songs like “Bodyache” and “Push Pull” whenever they take the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Purity Ring’s rise to underground success has been on fast forward since they formed. Though vocalist Megan James and producer Corin Roddick befriended each other while playing high school gigs in Edmonton, Canada, they didn’t officially collaborate until they both joined the band Born Gold in 2010. While on the road, Roddick began experimenting with electronic productions as a side project, eventually asking James to sing on a track. Thus, Purity Ring was born as the two bounced demos back and forth via email over the following year. Their 2012 debut Shrines struck an instant chord with audiences and led to an extensive introductory tour. The nonstop performing paid off, enabling them to take the next step and enter a dedicated recording studio for the first time in 2014. The resulting album, 2015’s Another Eternity, built upon the strengths of its predecessor and solidified Purity Ring as one of the most promising young bands, both for their stellar recorded output as well as their visually stunning live shows.

The fonda theatre + blue palms brewhouse made for an incredible night! We started off with fish and chips + some great draughts at the brewhouse and then continued the night in the fonda theatre!! You can sneak back into the brewhouse from inside the theatre through a side door which allowed us to grab another great drink before the show started. When the show did start, OMG, it was amazing! The purity ring are one of my favorite bands and they did not disappoint! The fonda put on a great show with admirable service and timing.

Blue Hawaii and Purity Ring were phenomenal

by Kafransaffron on 5/8/13The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

This may have been the best live show I've ever been to. The stage lighting and decorations were awesome and both bands played great live sets. The venue was gret although we had to wait what felt like forever between the opener and headliner (it was close to 40 minutes I think). Before the headliner played, a group of about 20 kids pushed all the way through the crowd and cut right in front of everyone in the front row. They were being very rude and pushy and everyone around them became very pissed, which made me nervous that it would cause some sort of brawl. Apart from that, everything was awesome and I will definitely be back! One other thing to request of fans is to not use the flash on their camera right in the performers faces. Also it's very annoying when 50 people in front of you have their phones blocking the view while they are taking videos instead of enjoying the moment.

    So good live! AMAZING!

by Aussiemazza on 4/22/13El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

The sound was great, the performance of the songs live was unforgettable! Love the energy and different elements they brought to each song to make it a little different from the album. Very talented duo and can't wait for the next album and concert!

    Moved me to dance

by Kyle59 on 4/21/13El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

The show moved me to dance and I don't dance, was it that I knew all the songs so well or the cute girl I didnt know dancing with me?

good venue, great performance. this is the second time i've seen purity ring live and their stage presence is extraordinary, the sound translates well, and the way the lighting is linked into the sound is fantastic.

    purity ring performs!

by TealCelluloid on 4/20/13El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

After their set at Coachella I was unsure that Purity Ring would be up to par this time around. Thankfully I was wrong. Blue Hawaii set the tone for the evening and PR played their album to perfection. The intimacy of El Rey was also a huge plus, all in all an amazing show. Glad to have gone and would totally see them again in a heartbeat!

    not boring at all

by Anonymous on 4/20/13El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I've read reviews where people said that they were boring but they weren't at all. I mean they only have one album out at the moment so a short performance is understandable but those 50 minutes or so is definitely an experience. The lights/decoration was pretty cool and the girls voice is really good live. From videos I've seen and reviews I've read, people would say the guy messes with the girls voice too much and while I did agree, it seems like someone told him and he mixes her voice pretty evenly now. The songs sounded great live with the little effects that differ from the album here and there

Concert was disconcertingly brief. Seemed more like an after-school special than an event. Not what I was expecting :(

They rocked it, but I was a bit disappointed at the length of their set. I know they have only one album and have been touring non-stop lately, but the opener's set was longer. At least leave with an encore. Just as I was really getting into it, it was over. No complaints otherwise. They sounded great.

Really excellent show. I'd read that these guys put a little more effort into their stage show due to the inherently low-action nature of electronic music, and they did not disappoint.

    Purity Ring = Phenomenal

    by DNA111 on 1/23/13Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

We arrived a little early, and there was a DJ to kill that awkward waiting atmosphere. The opening act was a band I'd never heard of called Young Magic and they were fantastic, similar to the sound of Purity Ring. The venue was clean, security was tight and I'd definitely come back for a show anytime.

    Sounded exactly like record

by partietraumatic on 1/15/13Webster Hall - New York

Purity Ring was good. I wish the light show would have been a bit better, and I didn't like how she was playing some weird gong thing. It sounded exactly like the record, which is good, but I usually like when the artist brings a bit more to the live show. Probably won't see them again, I like them better recorded than live.

    Purity Ring---good

by Nehita on 1/14/13Webster Hall - New York

It was a bit crowded which was expected. Purity sounded like they do recorded, but they weren't amazing performers by any means. The singer just waved around a light bulb i guess that was supposed to be entertaining. The decor was fine, again nothing spectacular about this performance other than they sound like how they do recorded which is harder to come by these days.

    Horrible crowd.

by Linseyyyyyyy on 1/14/13Webster Hall - New York

I really thought the crowd for Purity Ring would be lively, unique and moving. That was not the case. 80% of the people just STOOD there with their phones, texting or making videos. Hardly ANYONE danced. It really really really hurt the mood. HOW COULD YOU PEOPLE NOT DANCE?!?! It made me really upset. The bartenders were charging 5.00 for a cup of ICE, and would not give out tap water. Purity Ring was great, but you're paying for 45 minutes of music. I'd recommend Purity Ring for sure, but not the venue. Just a bunch of jaded hipsters that are too cool to dance.

The way the sounds with synced in with the music was brilliant. Their performance was so powerful that I felt it inside my body. It was just great honestly...I don't think words can capture their performance.

Like watching two orcha wales on stage

by terminalfivestinks on 1/13/13Webster Hall - New York

This couldn't have been less of a "show." It was boring and Putirty ring was up there for 45 minutes at best with no encore. What a waste of money and what a boring show. Don't bother!
