    PPL, Poco & Firefall

by Dbdartman on 7/12/16Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

PPL was the opening act and sounded great! Of course Amie was the song everyone waited to hear and was the last song that they performed...it brought a tear to my eye! Poco was in need of a second guitar player. Last time I saw them back in 1973 or '74, Rusty Young was an animal on the slide and pedal steel. At this show he took up the guitar duties by himself and quite frankly sounded tired....no pedal steel at all. With another guitar player they could have dug deeper into their repertoire with hits like You Better Think Twice. Not what they used to be. Firefall was the main act and although I was unfamiliar with the names of their tunes, I recognized and could sing the words to just about everything they played. They were excellent and a pleasure to see! All told the show was very good. Each band played for about an hour each with only a 15 minute intermission between the acts. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone who likes country rock.

    Terrific Trio!

by Alafaire on 7/12/16Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

All three of the groups featured at this performance, Pure Prairie League, Poco and Firefall gave fantastic performances! Age has not diminished their talent whatsoever and I could not have enjoyed the concert more, unless it was to hear them perform for a longer period of time. Poco took the overall best of show for me, but all three groups were great. The venue, the Florida Theatre in Jacksonville was the perfect size for this concert, with a nearly packed house and enthusiastic fans ready to hear their favorite country rockers of 70s and 80s. I would gladly attend another of these multi artist shows!

Pure Prairie League rocked it. Firefall seemed to try too hard.

Pure Prairie League: country rock at it's best

by Anonymous on 8/5/15Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Pure Prairie has a sound that defines country rock: red hot lead guitar mixed with the rip roaring pedal steel of the incomparable John David Call. Call is a picture of concentration doing things on steel no one else can and making it look effortless. He takes center stage where he belongs, just like he's done several times at The Grand Old Opry. Magnificent. Harmonies were outstanding with three lead singers who could sing lead in any band. The superb musicianship of all four members gives the band a very tight and energetic sound. The sound of PPL has always been unique since their first LP and I'm happy to say they still stick to what works. This quartet has it all.I have seen them several times and each time they have a few surprises in their set . These guys don't mail it in, they mix up their sets each show, nice effort, real pro's . Great stuff from a terrific group. Firefall is also very good, real nice set. I have seen them several times, and unlike PPL, it appears their setlist are very much the same, if not identical from show to show. Very enjoyable especially if it's your first time seeing them. Lead guitar of Jock still rocks. Not quite country rock but still real nice.

    Missing rhythm guitar

by Obiwannabe on 7/28/15Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Sound lacked richness. Vocals were good, but sorely need another guitar which was hugely evident when they played Amy. The acoustic guitar lead at the beginning of the song was filled in by the slide guitar and sounded odd. Lead guitar and bass played well . Slide guitar was okay...not great. Not one of the better shows I've seen.

    Memory Lane

by fishless51 on 7/28/15Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Good show, Firefall was very good, Pure Prarie League was good and the Atlanta Rhythm section was not so good. Too bad the sound was so horrible with the The Atlanta Rhythm section as they had 2 very good guitarist and a nice diverse set.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly

by Tunewarrior on 7/28/15Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

There were three bands at this show, PPL, Firefall and Atlanta Rhythm Section. PPL opened the show, and were mediocre. Somehow they thought it was a good idea to feature their steel guitar player by putting him up front in the center. He was a good musician, but never really seem interested in what was going on and never cracked a smile. Really a bit of a downer. The drummer was well above average in both vocals and playing, and the other two members were passable. Most of their songs were not memorable, but I must admit they did a very good job with "Amy", and the audience responded. Nice harmonies on that one. A case of too little too late however. I'd give them a C. Firefall clearly was the class of the evening. Much more professional and talented than PPL. Good combo of new and older members. More hits than I remembered, and they had their crowd on their feet much of their set. They could have carried the show without the other two bands. I'd recommend them to anyone, but not in this context. I'd give them a B+. The ARS was really disappointing, due primarily to their lead singer. I must admit I have never been a big fan of theirs, but their performance was poor. Since he did not play an instrument, the lead singer wandered around the stage aimlessly at times, drinking water, talking at length to the other band members and generally acting like he couldn't care less about the show. He was obviously one of the original members, and just seemed like he wanted to pick up his check and leave. And leave is what much of the audience did. After about 3 songs people started to exit and the stream continued after each song. We left early as well, despite the fact that my wife had been a fan of ARS. I'd give them a D+. In all fairness, the other members of ARS were more enthusiastic and talented, but seemed to be fighting a losing battle. BTW, their performance of Champaign Jam was one of the worst performances of a bad song I have ever experienced. How PPL got top billing over Firefall is a big mystery, and why anyone would book ARS is even a bigger one.

    Great 70's & 80's Memories

by PrincessOP on 7/28/15Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

We really enjoyed the show! It was a nice to spend the evening with my best friend and recall the "old days"! What was bad...was being 7th row from stage center, and having guys up in 2nd & 3rd row...making an ass out of himself! When you spend $70 + per ticket...I want to see the band. NOT some drunk ass in the blue shirt, looking for attention!

    Pure Prairie League, Firefall, ARS

by CEJ87 on 7/28/15Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

I was a fan of Pure Prairie League in the 70's but I have to say, it was a waste of money and time seeing them. There are some artists that have aged well and can still perform but they are not one of them. I was very disappointed. The highlight of the night for me and the group I was with was Firefall. They absolutely can still bring it and were the best part of the entire line up. They should have been the headliners and really could have done the entire show without the other acts.

    Firefall Ruled the Stage!!

by LinHen on 7/28/15Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Was excited to see PPL in concert!! Never thought i would so was very disappointed in Pure Prairie League Setlist....paid to hear their good stuff from the day and only got 3 songs. FIREFALL ROCKS!!! What a treat to see Firefall in person!! Would love to see them in full concert as headliners!! They sang all familiar songs and were so tight & came to give the audience what we paid for!!! Atlanta Rhythmn Section was a bust! Felt no cohesiveness or camaraderie...way too much "watch me play the guitar". The whole set felt like it was almost robotic. Sad.

Pure Prairie League and Poco Pure Magic!

by dmsp441 on 4/27/15Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - Morgantown

Pure Prairie League was actually the opening act for Poco. It was great to reminisce over the old favorites. Pure Prairie League's newer stuff is a little too country for my taste. Poco - Phenomenal! The old and the new.

    Very confusing event

by Bogeymike on 4/16/15Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Pure Prairie League was suppose to be headliner and the reason we went. They cam out first un-announced and the sound was not the best. They left and Fire Fall and Atlanta Rhythm Section came on also unannounced. They actually had to announce themselves. Fire Fall was the best of the 3. Is this the way Bergen PAC does things? not very professional.

Firefall far superior than PPL & ARS

by JamminNow on 4/15/15Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Pure Prairie League was a very good warm up act opening this 3 band show. Of course, their final song "Amie" was played to perfection! Second up was Firefall and they blew the audience away from their very first song! Incredible musicianship and enthusiasm on stage resulted in the audience wanting them to keep playing. Then there was the Atlanta Rhythm Section... not a good night for them. Initial technical problems with different amplifiers hurt their performance from the start. I'm sure it was disconcerting for them as the crew tried to remedy the situation and it showed especially from the lead vocalist who projected a"what's going on" attitude to an "oh well" attitude. They did persevere, issues were resolved, and their final two songs were performed really well!

    Triple Bill Pure Prairie League/ARS/Firefall

by Vinonuts on 4/14/15Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

It's been along time since I saw three bands on a bill. Fillmore East always had three bands. Big surprise was PPL opening up the show. Turns out they had to hurry off after the show. They were very good. John David Call, the pedal steel guitarist was outstanding. Firefall was next. They stole the show. Josh Bartlett was fine on guitar. The vocals were great. A real fine set. Atlanta Rhythm Section closed the show. Unfortunately they had a lot of equipment problems. A fine band, great guitar work. Just some issues. All in all a very good show. First time at venue. Enjoyed very much.

Atlanta Rhythm Section "Needs to stop touring!"

by Nickisinger17 on 4/13/15Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Let me first say that Pure Prairie League and Firefall were very good! Thank god for them. I can not say the same for Atlanta Rhythm Section. It was virtually unbearable. They sounded like a really unprepared high school band. There were roadies, sound guys running all over the stage, the vocals were a train wreck, and they were all around a mess. Very very unprofessional. We had to leave after the third song because we couldn't take it.
