About

Primus was founded in 1984 in El Sobrante, California by Les Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, who were later joined by drummer Jay Lane. Beginning as an underground act, the band slowly gained notoriety and critical acclaim after their records Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991) and Pork Soda (1993) both went Platinum, along with their records, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver (1996), Sailing the Seas of Cheese (Deluxe Edition) (2013) and Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble (2015), all three of which earned Grammy nominations. After the release of their record Antipop in 1999, the group disbanded but reformed as a touring entity in 2010 and began releasing music again soon after; Primus has released nine studio albums in total. The present lineup features Claypool on bass, Larry “Ler” LaLonde on guitar and Tim “Herb” Alexander on drums. Primus have delighted audiences all over the world with their oddball lyricism and out-of-the-box approach to music for over 40 years, and continue to be dedicated to bringing their innovative discography on the road.

  • Bowels of the Demon

    by 2Scary4U on 8/12/10Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

The show was unforgettable. The opening bands were great and kept the energy high. The venue had an amazing layout with plenty of bars and bathrooms which kept the lines pretty short. The only downside was the heat. I suppose the AC wasn't working properly so you were sweating like crazy just standing still. I think I lost 4 pounds just being there. The smell of all the sweaty bodies was pretty gross. So it felt as though we witnessed Primus in the bowels of a demon...but the overall show was good.

  • Outstanding!

Primus and Gogol was amazing they brought great vibes! The croud was pumped the music was loud the bands where amazing. First time ever seeing Gogol Bordello and must say they blew my mind. Primus as always was awesome. Primus had a great set list from start to finish My name is Mud was a little xtra heavy had a great space jam or 3 loved every minute. Floor was blazing hot around 122 they said in the paper, and you couldnt stop the intesity!

  • Wonderful show

    by nbk666 on 8/11/10Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

Primus was a great show except for the God Awful heat. Les Claypool puts on an amazing show however it was hard to understand his voice sometimes. Gogol Bordello's sound was way off. Could hardly hear singer or accordion over the drums and bass. I don't know why but all vocals were hard to hear. Crowd was pretty good even with the heat issues.

  • Primus

by bigbrownbeaver on 8/11/10Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 3 out of 5

Primus was great. Uptown was far too hot and the beers were not cold and too expensive. Wish they would have played a larger variety of their songs.

  • The air got very slippery

by happynoodleboy on 8/11/10Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

Both bands were incredible. The heat was unbelievable. There was seemingly no AC, felt like an oven. It was so hot it was frying Claypool's brain. I blame the heat for the lack of an encore.

Gogol Bordello was terrible, but that didn't surprise me. I just don't like their style I guess. Primus was amazing though. I loved their props (especially the clips from Salad Fingers), and everything fit them well. They did a lot of jamming in the middle of songs, which was awesome for the most part. Their 4 minute songs became 10 minute songs in some cases. They played most of my favorites from nearly every album and it was all perfectly performed.

  • Primus kicked ASS!!!!!!

    by 1BigB on 8/11/10Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

1st show at the LC Pavillion. Super excited that primus came arround to columbus. Les Claypool is still an amazing artist. The show was one of the most technically proficient shows I have ever witnessed. If I ever get a chance to see them again I will be there, and so should you!!!!!

Great show. The Dead Kenny G's were a great opening act for the other bands.

  • Primus does not disappoint

by HairyPalms on 8/11/10Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Show was great. Gogol Bordello was 8 crazy people running around for two hours, and Les Claypool was as badass as ever. Can't wait till they come again!

  • Stellar performance...Coldplay sucks

    by Bartman44 on 8/11/10Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

PRIMUS & GOGOL BORDELLO were both exceptional. The friggin Uptown was hotter than all nine circles of Dante's Inferno. Primus was selling posters from their show from Rochester, NY...whats that all about?

  • Primus stands alone in its own Awesomesauce

by Tobyxray on 8/9/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Primus absolutely delivered a fantastic performance in Nashville, TN. I have been a fan for many years and have never had the opportunity to see them once, and when i finally do, they delivered one of the funnest shows i've ever experienced. They Ryman seemed to be the perfect venue because it wasn't too small and wasn't too big so the sound was excellent, everyone felt really close to the band no matter where you were standing or sitting. It was just a fantastic event.

  • Great Show

    by jhd68 on 8/9/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Could not have been a better show to take my 15 year old son to, he loves Primus, and he is an aspiring bass player.

  • Primus Metal? No Jam Band.

by Itzjerm on 8/9/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 1 out of 5

Well now I know why Les Claypool is now called the unofficial mayor of Bonaroo. He's converted Primus to a jam band. I was confused (as were all the metal heads at the concert)... to find tye dye and hippies at a Primus event. However... when they continued to play songs that went on and on and on... how disappointed I was. Primus they were good in the day... but now... well they have changed to another Wide Spread Panic.

  • by SofaKingCool on 8/8/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Les Claypool is one of the most uniquely talented bassist's that has ever lived. Watching him play is like watching Hendrix do his thing. Fantastic! Put seeing Primus on your bucket list!!

  • Prime time

    by TheBEST111111111111 on 8/8/10Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - MilwaukeeRating: 4 out of 5

Primus, as a whole, was an enjoyable band to see. A lot of intoxicated audience members, including myself and the group I came with, but that was to be expected. The sound at the Eagles Club was terrible, and there were times I couldn't make out the song or the words that Les was saying when he addressed his crowd. The acoustics of the concert hall could have been better, but I guess other than that, all that is left to complain about were the sweaty shirtless dudes everywhere. The set list was phenom, I really enjoyed myself and would see this concert again.
