About

Primus was founded in 1984 in El Sobrante, California by Les Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, who were later joined by drummer Jay Lane. Beginning as an underground act, the band slowly gained notoriety and critical acclaim after their records Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991) and Pork Soda (1993) both went Platinum, along with their records, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver (1996), Sailing the Seas of Cheese (Deluxe Edition) (2013) and Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble (2015), all three of which earned Grammy nominations. After the release of their record Antipop in 1999, the group disbanded but reformed as a touring entity in 2010 and began releasing music again soon after; Primus has released nine studio albums in total. The present lineup features Claypool on bass, Larry “Ler” LaLonde on guitar and Tim “Herb” Alexander on drums. Primus have delighted audiences all over the world with their oddball lyricism and out-of-the-box approach to music for over 40 years, and continue to be dedicated to bringing their innovative discography on the road.

  • Rockin' show with too much security

by peosh on 8/16/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

The show rocked from the opening band through to the end, although the music was so loud I felt as though I had been beaten with a wet pillow after the acts were over. The security team were too gung-ho poking their heads in where it was not needed and doing nothing when it was.

  • Primus Sucks

First time seeing Primus. Drove from LA. Popped some caps. Blown away. My name is Mudd. Amazing show...

  • Pure originality!

Wolfmother was great. I saw a guy before the show. He was wearing a shirt that said "Love your Mother". Whomever coined that phrase was down right, right! Primus is pure genius along with incredible dexterity. This was my first Primus show and I was not at all disappointed. I went home and bought a couple of CD's for my library. Hey fella's, thank's for a unique and entertaining evening. It won't be forgotton.

  • more please!

primus put on a great show (as did wolfmother which i wasn't expecting). i just wish that primus had played a longer set which is generally what i heard from other concert-goers on the way out. also, it would have been great if they had played a few more of their older songs. overall an awesome show though, and i can't wait to see them again.

  • wow

Pretty much floored from start to finish; top ten best shows I've ever seen. The SB Bowl, as always, was the perfect mix of large stage scene and intimacy.

Les Claypool is a fantastic uber talented bassist who sells himself short. Lane is an awesomely tight drummer. If my husband would have made it home by 4 I could have seen more than 2 songs from Wolfmother. So I am bummed I missed Wolfmother.

  • High Energy!!

As always...Gogol Bordello delivered!! They are an amazing band! I can't get enough! They are one of the best bands I have ever seen live! We didn't stick around for Primus. We had to work too early the next day.

Great acoustics, great venue, great weather, wonderful music! Drove all the way from Louisiana and the show was well worth it!

  • Primus @ Santa Barbara Bowl

by Anonymous on 8/16/10Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 5 out of 5

I really liked the venue alot. Not really a bad seat in the house. The worst seats have a view of the ocean, not too shabby. The show kicked ass! Caught the tail end of Wolfmother, but I really like their sound and wish I could've seen a bit more. All I can say is that Primus puts on a great show. A couple new tunes that I had never heard mixed in with some classics made it a great show. Also the cover of Pink Floyd's "In the Flesh" was amazing! Great night up in Santa Barbara for a show. Well worth the drive from LA!

Totally amazed by Primus, Three great musicians working together seamlessly. One of the best performances it's been my pleasure to attend. Wolfmother, I could have missed entirely. About as good as the average bar band. Sorry but how they got to where they are, I haven't a clue??

  • PRIMUS

Bass kicked butt. Lot's of energy. Awesome night. Temperature was perfect.

  • The best I have seen 'em in a long time!

by CoreyO1234 on 8/16/10The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

This was probably the best show I've seen from Primus since the 90's. The energy in the room was incredible! The energy on the stage was even more incredible! It was awesome seeing Jay on drums. I wasn't sure what to expect from that, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I saw Rush earlier in the evening, and I have to say that I thought the Primus show was better. Sure, Rush puts on a hell of a show, and all of the lights and video are mezmorizing, but there was just a sense of raw energy and karma in the room at the Primus show, that just wasn't there for Rush. Kudos to the band for an excellent performance. I home this incarnation of the trio makes it back through Vegas again soon!

  • PRIMUS SUCKS!

by Anonymous on 8/16/10The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best shows I've been to. VERY Highly recommended!

  • PRIMUS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by NUERNZ on 8/16/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

I'M 31 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BEEN TO A LOT OF SHOWS AND A LOT OF DIFFERENT VENUES AROUND THE COUNTRY AND THIS BY FAR WAS THE BEST SHOW I'VE EVER SEEN. PRIMUS WAS AWSOME AND PLAYED A GREAT SET LIST. THE SHOW I SEEN IN CLEVELAND WAS GOOD BUT LEFT ME WANTING MORE AND THIS SHOW GAVE IT TO ME. THE VENUE AT RED ROCKS IS SECOND TO NONE, THE SOUND QUALITY WAS GREAT AND THE SHOW ROCKED. GOGAL WAS A GREAT OPENING ACT THAT BRAUGHT A TON OF ENERGY AND THE DEAD KENNY G'S ARE UNIQUE AND STYLISH AND BRAUGHT A GOOD VIBE AND JAM.

Amazing sound, and video monitors of the show helped out the shorter crowd.
