About

Primus was founded in 1984 in El Sobrante, California by Les Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, who were later joined by drummer Jay Lane. Beginning as an underground act, the band slowly gained notoriety and critical acclaim after their records Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991) and Pork Soda (1993) both went Platinum, along with their records, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver (1996), Sailing the Seas of Cheese (Deluxe Edition) (2013) and Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble (2015), all three of which earned Grammy nominations. After the release of their record Antipop in 1999, the group disbanded but reformed as a touring entity in 2010 and began releasing music again soon after; Primus has released nine studio albums in total. The present lineup features Claypool on bass, Larry “Ler” LaLonde on guitar and Tim “Herb” Alexander on drums. Primus have delighted audiences all over the world with their oddball lyricism and out-of-the-box approach to music for over 40 years, and continue to be dedicated to bringing their innovative discography on the road.

I really enjoyed this concert. The only band that I knew going into this was Primus. I liked all three bands very much! Great bands!

  • Primus Is EPIC!!!

by AnnieSerious on 8/20/10The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

The August 14th Primus show at the Joint in Vegas was AMAZING to say the least. They really came through playing all of the best songs. They also really have upped their game since splitting up and have re-emerged on the weirdo scene a tighter, more technical band. PRIMUS SUCKS!

  • One of the best nights of my life!

Couldn't imagine a better artist performance combined with a better venue! EPIC experience!!!

  • Awesome concert, amazing venue!

    by John4119 on 8/18/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

I liked the Dead Kenny G's, hadn't heard them before but it was cool to start the concert with. Didn't know what to think of Gogol Bordello. Lots of energy but seemed repetitious, and the set was longer than I expected. At least one or two songs were great though. It was my first time hearing them also. Primus was awesome (Primus sucks! Primus sucks! ;-) ). It's amazing to see Les play live. It turns out the Perseid meteor shower was visible that night from Red Rocks, I didn't know it at the time and missed it. The weather couldn't have been better, I was a little worried after driving through heavy rain coming over the Rockies earlier that day. Red Rocks is a special place. You really should go see a concert there if someone you like is playing! To Jason and Wade from Chicago and Florida, hope you guys had an awesome time and we're sorry we never caught up with you after the show started.

been waiting to see primus for over a decade. we almost didn't go because there's so much going on in our lives, but my best friend and i went and it was sure worth it. red rocks is beyond amazing. i can't wait to go back. primus was unbelievable live. they played a great mix of new and old stuff. i don't think i heard a foul note all night. aside from a few tweekers, the crowd was great and we all had fun.

  • Primus

by bigfanlongtime on 8/17/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great show at a great venue. Had to come to see Primus at Red Rocks, seen them in 4-5 other venues prior. Red Rocks is always a killer show. Jay Lane is probably my favorite Claypool drummer. The Dead Kenny G's opened up, and rocked in their typical frenetic style. Good grooves, love Skerik and Mike D. Brad Houser is almost invisible compared to these two, but still a great sax player. Having no previous experience with Gogol Bordello, I had no idea what to expect. A little nuts at times, fans from previous shows say that this was relatively tame. They were good, it's always good to see bands you know little to nothing about. Primus was great. I was a little surprised Tim Alexander was not drumming as I had not kept up on this tour like I usually do. Jay Lane is always a welcome drummer with Claypool, and it was nice that they finally played some songs off of The Brown Album. Great overall, mixed it up a lot.

  • Primus still has it!

We heard some great tunes from Primus. Music was well-played. The Joint facilities were top notch.

  • Primus Rules

by Sharkibus on 8/17/10Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The show was incredible to say the least. Anyone who likes Primus will not be disapointed by going to see them, they put on one hell of a show.

  • Primus in KC

by Stumplink on 8/17/10Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

Gogol Bordello while interesting took way to long and had everyone a little tired by the time Primus joined the stage. Primus took down the house and was a great band to see. The one draw back that almost made the concert not worth it was the heat. I suggest no one watches a show there until they can keep the temp below 120 degrees. Also an ATM or more card takers would help out a lot.

  • Primus Sucks!!!

  • Primus rocks, but the venue sucks!

by trinbabe on 8/17/10Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 2 out of 5

My experience at the bowl was rotten for a first time show in SB. I was not impressed with how crude and abrupt the security volunteers were. The show itself was awesome, but all the fun and freedom of going to rock out on some of my favorite music was not a good experience.

  • Primus is awesome!

by JoeDr on 8/17/10Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Primus put on a great show, only 1 1/2 hours but awesome. Gogol Bordello was a lot of fun too. Missed the Dead Kenny G's

  • Yinz kicked ass!!

by judebomb on 8/17/10Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 4 out of 5

Some friends came into LA from Pittsburgh, PA for the past week so we had a great trip to Santa Barbera to show them a little of the land and enjoy our first ever evening with Primus. Beautiful venue, good brews, and great sound. The only thing I would have different would be a longer set! But the SB curfew would not allow, so I can respect the quality of the area, a nice change from madness of west LA :)

  • Primus @ The Hard Rock in Las Vegas

by musicman68 on 8/17/10The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Well, Les and the boys never cease to amaze. With the first song being a little off, they went into a Floyd cover (the title eludes me). After that there wasn't a missed note. Every song was tight. Now, I overheard a security guard state that they had opened for Rush at the MGM earlier that evening, hence the midnite showtime at the Hard Rock. Regardless, they were magnificent and I cant wait to see them again LIVE!!!

  • PRIMUS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Skwurlz on 8/16/10Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show. Southbound Packiderm!!!! The monkey mask and single string bass.... sick. Claypool is the shiz.

  • Incredible

by Mylolove on 8/16/10Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa BarbaraRating: 5 out of 5

Les Claypool is a God. The show was amazing, although I do feel he left out many of his other great songs.

  • PRIMUS SUCKS

by schlotsky on 8/16/10The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely one of the best out of body experiences I have ever had, listening to them go off on space trip tangents is what primus is all about. Starting the show with pudding time and ending with too many puppies was amazing, everything in the middle was equally amazing. I cant wait to see them again there like an acid trip, you dont do it all the time but when it happens its forever memorable.
