About

Legendary Academy Award® and Tony Award® winner Kevin Kline makes his eagerly awaited return to Broadway in Noël Coward’s outrageously irresistible backstage comedy PRESENT LAUGHTER.

With a spectacular cast headed by three-time Tony® and Emmy® Award nominee Kate Burton (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy), Tony Award® nominee Kristine Nielsen (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike), and Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) in her Broadway debut, with direction by Tony Award® nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God), PRESENT LAUGHTER follows a self-obsessed actor in the midst of a mid-life crisis. Juggling his considerable talent, ego and libido, the theater’s favorite leading man suddenly finds himself caught between fawning ingenues, crazed playwrights, secret trysts and unexpected twists.

    Present Laughter

by Squarering on 6/24/17St. James Theatre - New York

The cast was excellent, especially Kevin Kline, Colbie Smulders, and Kate Burton. It was slow moving at first, then picked up momentum and was hilarious in the second half. A comic gem. I highly recommend it to everyone.

    Great piece!

by Vivian255 on 6/23/17St. James Theatre - New York

Such lovely acting and a beautiful set to go with it. The accents were sometimes a bit off (especially ms Ericssons so called swedish accent), but that did not worsen the experience. Kevin Cline was simply amazing!

Kline Proves Why He's A Top Actor

by Anonymous on 6/20/17St. James Theatre - New York

Kevin Kline doesn't disappoint. He shows why he won the Tony this year with his performance. Set design is well done and all characters perform well. The overall duration is a bit long, but the entire experience was worth the money.

Present Laughter has a superb cast

by Superlobbyist on 6/20/17St. James Theatre - New York

The impeccable timing, droll delivery and consummate professionalism of the entire cast raises Present Laughter above its otherwise funny Noel Coward material. Kevin Kline, Kate Burton and company shamelessly milk the script for every laugh, guffaw and chuckle. The final scene is an uproarious slapstick pastiche that elevates the entire performance ..

Very enjoyable evening! Kevin Kline is masterful at using timing, body movement, and, yes, even pratfalls! Wonderful cast altogether. Noel Coward reaches us from the past when scandals were delightful and people were fancy free!

    Kevin Kline is perfect!

by pattinola on 6/18/17St. James Theatre - New York

The show itself is a bit dated and formulaic, and probably wouldn't fly with someone else, but KK is a genius. Pitch perfect, a Master Class in acting.

A somewhat dated farce that is made irresistible by an incredible cast - led by a remarkable Kevin Kline.

    Best. Comic Performance. Ever.

by ChrisKro on 6/17/17St. James Theatre - New York

Don't miss Kevin Kline in Present Laughter, it is truly the finest, funniest live performance we have ever seen. I would go every night if I could, and am telling everyone I meet to get there before the show closes on July 2nd. I never write fan letters and rarely write reviews, but this show is so worth it - the whole show and cast is terrific, and Kline's Tony Award for this is more than well-deserved!

    Walked out at before intermission

by Anonymous on 6/13/17St. James Theatre - New York

I have been going to Broadway for 30 years. This is the first time I have walked out of a show. The night cost me over $500.00 with theater tickets, dinner and parking; but the misery of sitting and watching this boring, hapless, uninteresting endless show was worth the loss. I cant explain how the fake, high noted English accents came across to the crowd. The material was a total bore as was the acting. Tony award or not, I came to see Kevin Kline for his comedic skills, but they were absent. When a heavy handshake among three actors was supposed to be funny - as one would do in third grade - I knew the night was over. I looked at my watch within 20 minutes to see how I could escape, and couldn't bear it anymore and departed with my wife. I met another couple in the lobby doing the same. THE MOST BORING SHOW IN ALL THEATER.
