Premier Boxing Champions

Manager Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions series features top-level fights all around the country (and across the television landscape). Just look at the names in the PBC promotion. Champs and ex-champs and legit prospects abound: Deontay Wilder, Adonis Stevenson, David Benavidez, Jermall and Jermell Charlo, Jarrett Hurd, Errol Spence Jr., Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Mikey Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, Gary Russell Jr., Abner Mares, Brandon Figueroa, Danny Garcia, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Jarrett Hurd, and Gervonta Davis. Living relic Manny Pacquiao is on board. Surprise titlist Andy Ruiz Jr. is in the PBC camp, too.

Premier Boxing Champions History

The first PBC card was in 2015, and it was broadcast on NBC, with Keith Thurman as the headliner and Adrien Broner and Abner Mares on the undercard. There've been a lot of fireworks since then, heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder providing many of them. In 2016, Wilder knocked out Artur Szpilka in the ninth round with a cannon shot from his right hand. The following year, Wilder swarmed challenger Bermane Stiverne, knocking him down three times before the fight was stopped in the waning moments of the first round. Stiverne managed just two jabs and two power shots in all.

In 2018, Wilder took on Luiz Ortiz at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in one of the great bouts of the promotion's brief history. The cautious, pawing exchanges of the early rounds gave way in the fifth to a big right from Wilder that buckled Ortiz's knees and then a second right that sent him to the floor. Ortiz came back and nearly knocked out Wilder in the seventh. The champ rallied, and in the 10th he overwhelmed Ortiz, ending the fight with a huge right uppercut.

But the PBC is a lot more than Wilder. In September 2019, welterweight Errol Spence Jr., fresh off his domination of Mikey Garcia, bested Shawn Porter in a frenetic split decision, unifying the IBF and WBC belts and moving Spence closer to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings. And don't forget the old guy. In 2018, Pacquiao, on the cusp of turning 40, joined the promotion and soon recorded a pair of solid decisions, first against Adrien Broner and then against the dangerous Keith Thurman.

The event was fun my only issue is few concession stands. Other than that everything was good

by Pleadnolo on 7/12/22Alamodome - San AntonioRating: 4 out of 5

Great experience and nice crowd for boxing. All three main matches were solid and the support from boxing stars was a good look. Look forward to more matches from PBC

  • Don’t leave it in the hands of the Judges

by Rene on 7/12/22Alamodome - San AntonioRating: 1 out of 5

Unfortunately it reminded me of why I’ve lost interest in boxing over the last few years. 3 of the fights were obviously fixed. Even the winners were surprised that they won. Aside from the boxing the venue concessions were a joke. High prices low quality food. They even ran out of beer at one stand

  • Alamodome Boxing

by Venny on 7/12/22Alamodome - San AntonioRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed the Boxing event at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Tx. The only complaint was, on the Alamodome website, we were authorized to bring in Clear backpacks, but at the door, they informed us, we were not allowed to.

  • Amazing fights

by Chad in Tucson on 3/1/22The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

All the fights were great, even the undercard. Special shoutout to Justin "The Stallion" Cardona who came out and hung out with my two sons who have spent the last year training to be boxers. So cool to see someone with the love of the game come out and show some love like that right after putting on an amazing performance. From top to bottom, this was a great night and Justin made our entire trip to Vegas!

I loved this event. One of my first live boxing shows and it did not disappoint. The DJ was spot on with the transitions and breaks between fights. The lighting, atmosphere, seats, sound, we’re all just incredible.

  • Inconvenience with floor seats

by LCerv. on 11/16/21Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 3 out of 5

We overall had a great experience watching the fights in our floor seats but it was very inconvenient having to go up to the concession stands for drinks, food, and restrooms. For the amount of money they make you pay for floor seats, I feel there should be more accommodations.

  • Good

by RICH on 11/16/21Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

Restrooms were dirty . Trash over flowing. The line too use the restrooms were ridiculous. The event was worth it. Benavidez put a spectacular fight for our hometown PHX AZ

  • Phoenix Fight Night

by Erok on 11/16/21Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

A wonderfully organized event. The electricity was in the air. Boxing needs to find a more consistent home in the Valley of the Sun. The entire card was worthwhile, and the main match was a great battle between warriors. Would love to see more professional boxing matches in the home of the Suns.
