Premier Boxing Champions

Manager Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions series features top-level fights all around the country (and across the television landscape). Just look at the names in the PBC promotion. Champs and ex-champs and legit prospects abound: Deontay Wilder, Adonis Stevenson, David Benavidez, Jermall and Jermell Charlo, Jarrett Hurd, Errol Spence Jr., Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Mikey Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, Gary Russell Jr., Abner Mares, Brandon Figueroa, Danny Garcia, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Jarrett Hurd, and Gervonta Davis. Living relic Manny Pacquiao is on board. Surprise titlist Andy Ruiz Jr. is in the PBC camp, too.

Premier Boxing Champions History

The first PBC card was in 2015, and it was broadcast on NBC, with Keith Thurman as the headliner and Adrien Broner and Abner Mares on the undercard. There've been a lot of fireworks since then, heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder providing many of them. In 2016, Wilder knocked out Artur Szpilka in the ninth round with a cannon shot from his right hand. The following year, Wilder swarmed challenger Bermane Stiverne, knocking him down three times before the fight was stopped in the waning moments of the first round. Stiverne managed just two jabs and two power shots in all.

In 2018, Wilder took on Luiz Ortiz at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in one of the great bouts of the promotion's brief history. The cautious, pawing exchanges of the early rounds gave way in the fifth to a big right from Wilder that buckled Ortiz's knees and then a second right that sent him to the floor. Ortiz came back and nearly knocked out Wilder in the seventh. The champ rallied, and in the 10th he overwhelmed Ortiz, ending the fight with a huge right uppercut.

But the PBC is a lot more than Wilder. In September 2019, welterweight Errol Spence Jr., fresh off his domination of Mikey Garcia, bested Shawn Porter in a frenetic split decision, unifying the IBF and WBC belts and moving Spence closer to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings. And don't forget the old guy. In 2018, Pacquiao, on the cusp of turning 40, joined the promotion and soon recorded a pair of solid decisions, first against Adrien Broner and then against the dangerous Keith Thurman.

  • Great Fights!

by EA on 11/16/21Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 3 out of 5

Floor seating not as expected. If someone stands in front of you it blocks view. Horrible sound could not hear a thing when fight being announced or decisions being read or fighters interviewed. Could not seen the clear view of big screen as it was obstructed. Other than that great fights and great crowd!

  • Davis is the truth

by Joe Gunn on 8/20/21State Farm Arena - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The entire card was awesome from top to bottom. However, the main event was awesome. Both competitors gave the fans a show for their money. In the end, Davis was just too much for Barrios. I flew all the way to Atlanta from Detroit for this fight and I do not regret it.

  • EXCELLENT!!!!

by Mimi on 8/4/21Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

I bought my ticket about three weeks before event, and started counting down the days. This was my first boxing match and my first experience at the Prudential Center. The atmosphere was great, security kept everyone safe, the selection at the food counter was adequate, the bar had my favorite whiskey, the restrooms were very clean. Overall experience EXCELLENT!!!!!!!

  • 1st Boxing Event

    by G. T. on 7/20/21AT&T Center - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

The event and everything associated with it was better than expected. The ticket purchase, easy stadium access and fee was great.

  • PBC> State Farm Arena

by Lionel Watson on 7/3/21Rating: 4 out of 5

Great fight between davis and barrios. Good arena for a fight. Not too big. However, people were out of line by taking seats that did not belong to them. And it wasnt by mistake.

  • We came out from Seattle, better than expectations!

    by F. L. on 6/29/21State Farm Arena - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Four of us came all the way out from Seattle (a fifth came up from Florida) to catch this card after seeing how stacked it was with Tank and the undercard with Lubin, Rosario and originally Jrock. All action packed night! Atlanta energy was lit and if there are future stacked cards here we will definitely come out back this way to catch it. Thank you, Al Haymon!

  • Great event TERRIBLE SOUND

by stlrockn on 2/19/20Bridgestone Arena - NashvilleRating: 3 out of 5

We really enjoyed the boxing card at Bridgestone Arena. We hope there are more such events. The only problem we had was that the sound from the ring announcer was unintelligible. We could not understand a word that was said. More importantly, the music played between bouts was so LOUD that I could not talk to the person next to me. It was ridiculous how painfully loud it was. This could prevent me from paying to see future events if this continues. Finally, we never knew what round it was. There were no ring card girls or even graphics on the overhead screen. This was a drawback for us as paying fans. if those things don't change, we will not be back.

  • Fight Night in 615

    by T The G on 2/19/20Bridgestone Arena - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Had ringside seats, easy access in and out of the rows, restroom and bar on floor with us, overall one of the best events I’ve ever attended.

  • Great time but......

    by M. D. on 2/19/20Bridgestone Arena - NashvilleRating: 3 out of 5

I’ll start by saying we had a great time at this event. This was the first World Championship fight in Nashville for 20 years or more. The fights were exciting and our seats were great (4th row, ringside..$200 per seat) The only issue was the Bridgestone’s (or promoter’s) lack of experience. There was a total lack of information for the live audience. The audience in the Bridgestone (the fights were televised as well) had no way of knowing the round or the time left in the round. There were no clocks, round cards or round announcements. The ring announcements between fights were so garbled that we had no idea what was being said. Add to that, no printed programs to get info on the fighters (There were 9 fights). We had to stream a feed from Fox Sports to follow what was going on. If this fight was in Vegas, fans would have lost their minds. Come on Nashville!

  • Premier Boxing

by KA on 2/18/20Bridgestone Arena - NashvilleRating: 1 out of 5

The sound system, quality, etc. was horrible. We were sitting on the floor throughout the entire event and you could not understand a single word or announcement it was unbelievable and very disappointing. I wish I had of enjoyed the fight at home where I could’ve seen and heard everything.

  • Amazing!

by Brian on 2/18/20Bridgestone Arena - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Had floor seats, got to meet some of the biggest names in boxing, can’t wait to do it again! Sweethands!!

  • Good fight! Music too loud and too much!

by Cece on 2/18/20Bridgestone Arena - NashvilleRating: 3 out of 5

The music was too loud during the fight, you couldn't talk to each other between rounds. The fight was great! We recorded the fight and even added the 30 minute extension on fox 17. So we could share the experience with our family. But come to find out the fight was so late it only recorded part of the first round! All of the rest was lost!! It took so long between fights that we missed all of the main event on TV. That was so disappointing!!

  • Caleb Plant Homecoming

  • Premier boxing champions

    by Smashville42 on 2/18/20Bridgestone Arena - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Great experience, only downfall was they didn't show round times on the screen and played music between fights with no showing of the commentators or anything, PBC went cheap. Caleb Plant fought great and made the event worthwhile.

  • Caleb Plant TKO

    by Zainarea51 on 2/18/20Bridgestone Arena - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Electric energy at Bridgestone for my guy Caleb Plant! Defended his title in fashion and brought out a great local crowd! Ready for the next time he brings the fight back to Nashville!
