Premier Boxing Champions

Manager Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions series features top-level fights all around the country (and across the television landscape). Just look at the names in the PBC promotion. Champs and ex-champs and legit prospects abound: Deontay Wilder, Adonis Stevenson, David Benavidez, Jermall and Jermell Charlo, Jarrett Hurd, Errol Spence Jr., Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Mikey Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, Gary Russell Jr., Abner Mares, Brandon Figueroa, Danny Garcia, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Jarrett Hurd, and Gervonta Davis. Living relic Manny Pacquiao is on board. Surprise titlist Andy Ruiz Jr. is in the PBC camp, too.

Premier Boxing Champions History

The first PBC card was in 2015, and it was broadcast on NBC, with Keith Thurman as the headliner and Adrien Broner and Abner Mares on the undercard. There've been a lot of fireworks since then, heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder providing many of them. In 2016, Wilder knocked out Artur Szpilka in the ninth round with a cannon shot from his right hand. The following year, Wilder swarmed challenger Bermane Stiverne, knocking him down three times before the fight was stopped in the waning moments of the first round. Stiverne managed just two jabs and two power shots in all.

In 2018, Wilder took on Luiz Ortiz at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in one of the great bouts of the promotion's brief history. The cautious, pawing exchanges of the early rounds gave way in the fifth to a big right from Wilder that buckled Ortiz's knees and then a second right that sent him to the floor. Ortiz came back and nearly knocked out Wilder in the seventh. The champ rallied, and in the 10th he overwhelmed Ortiz, ending the fight with a huge right uppercut.

But the PBC is a lot more than Wilder. In September 2019, welterweight Errol Spence Jr., fresh off his domination of Mikey Garcia, bested Shawn Porter in a frenetic split decision, unifying the IBF and WBC belts and moving Spence closer to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings. And don't forget the old guy. In 2018, Pacquiao, on the cusp of turning 40, joined the promotion and soon recorded a pair of solid decisions, first against Adrien Broner and then against the dangerous Keith Thurman.

  • Boxing in Houston

    by TopShelf713 on 11/3/15NRG Arena - HoustonRating: 3 out of 5

Good fight. Great seats. Needed more energy. Music was very low. No ring girl. The bar shut down early. No drink waitresses at ring side taking drink orders. Good to see boxing in Houston. A good experience. I would like to see more boxing here.

  • Amazing Experience

This was my first experience sitting ring side (4 rows from ring) and it was awesome. My father also had a blast and lucky enough to take a picture with Sugar Ray Leonard. I will make every effort to see down near the ring area. There were over 10 matches and it was well worth the price.

This was AMAZING... I thoroughly enjoyed the boxing matches leading up to the main event... though Diaz was cheated out of the win. It was still an exciting moment. I look forward to many more matches!

  • Worst Fight Event I have attended!!

by tome101 on 10/20/15EagleBank Arena (formerly Patriot Center) - FairfaxRating: 1 out of 5

Very disappointed with Premier Boxing for the following reasons: 1. NO PRINTED FIGHT CARD, NO FIGHTER INFO. available to Ticket Holders. 2. NO RING CARD PERSONS TO LET US KNOW WHAT ROUND we were watching. 3. $14.00 (Four-teen) Dollars for a BEER!! Are you Kidding?? 4. EXTREMELY BAD BOXING REFs.. Boxer Colon is still in critical condition. 5. VERY POOR Public address PERSON. 6. BOXER MIKE OLIVER takes a knee in 20 seconds just to get paid??? 7. Lamont Peterson was clearly beaten yet given the decision by bad judging..

This was the second PBC event I have been two recently and I had a hell of a time. Intimate setting with the smaller venue. So many knockouts! Female fighters (never seen that live before) Main event was quick but exciting. A great day of boxing all around.

Unexciting caliber of boxers in three of the preliminary bouts. spotlights glaring into our eyes from afar was annoying.

The whole card was good. The matches flowed really well. The only thing I have to complain about is there was no instant replay in between rounds. Also I saw ring girl's taking pics with people but they never got in the ring. I have been to a few matches and this was the best one yet.

  • Fantastic boxing

by gigijames on 7/14/15USF Sun Dome - TampaRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing boxing matches. I would highly recommend. I have already started searching for other matches in the area. And, as always, USF Sun Dome is the best place to watch any type of event.

  • Great sports event

by michellegt on 7/14/15USF Sun Dome - TampaRating: 4 out of 5

Good matches , venue definitely accommodates the sport. The concession stand on the other hand has a lot of improvement to make we bought a lemonade and it was just water . Burgers remind me of high school cafeteria and everybody already knows is overpriced

  • "Chunky" Degale was Brutal !!!

by phoenixpinson on 5/26/15Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I hadn't been to a boxing match in 10 years, but this fight was worth the money. Chunky Degale knocked down direlle early but he made a fight of it. Afterwards I got to watch Danny Boy O Connor and Chris Gilbert put on a tough fight, and then Edwin Rodriguez a local from worcester won an early TKO to hand El gato negro his first loss. What a great night and great seats!!

  • Off the charts

    by 781boss on 5/26/15Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Premier Boxing Champions was insanely fun. Upon arrival at the arena we were upgraded to floor seats. Celebrities like Ken Casey from the Dropkick Murphys and former fighters Mickey Ward and Sugar Ray Leonard were in our section. Being so close to the ring we had an unbelievable view of the action. 5 plus hours of boxing action! Only drawback was one drink per customer at a time. Couldn't get my girl a drink while she was at our seats!
