ABOUT PORTUGAL THE MAN:

Over the past decade, Portugal The Man has established themselves as one of rock's most prized possessions and a live phenomenon, with over 1,600 shows under their belts and a storied reputation as festival favorites.

Originally heralding from Alaska, the Portland-based band - comprised of John Gourley, Zach Carothers, Kyle O'Quin, Eric Howk, Jason Sechrist and Zoe Manville - soared to new heights in 2017 with the release of their RIAA certified-gold album, Woodstock. The album was marked by the astounding success of their infectious single, "Feel It Still," which earned the group a plethora of new accolades - including a GRAMMY award for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance," a 6x RIAA platinum certified single certification, a mind-blowing 20-week residency at #1 on alternative radio, and an inescapable presence on the Top 40 airwaves.Alongside the shine of their myriad musical accomplishments lies the group's long-standing passion for social justice. In fact, this is precisely the intersection on which Portugal The Man thrives; throughout their career, the band has consistently exemplified how to deeply commit to both artistry and activism. This dynamic inspired them to officially launch their PTM Foundation in 2020, focused on universal issues related to human rights, community health, and the environment, with an emphasis on causes directly impacting Indigenous Peoples.

Their continued passion for activism has also led to recent partnerships with organizations such as the National Coalition Against Censorship, The Skatepark Project (helping communities build public skate parks for youth in underserved communities), March for Our Lives (Gun Reform), Keep Oregon Well (Mental Health), and Protect Our Winters (Climate Change), to name just a few.

  • Awesome show!

    by Vicky Z on 11/20/23History - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

If you get a chance to see this band, do it. They were fantastic, they didn't talk on stage so the show is just rapid fire of one great song to the next. Loved it, we would highly recommend!!

  • Not a good concert

by Not great on 11/19/23History - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

I was disappointed as the band chose Not to be seen (backlit on stage), and chose Not to be heard. They they not petsonilize or talk about the music between songs. This is the bands choice to just play music as explained by them on the back drop screen in words. I don’t agree. Also, the sound was not as clear or vocably distinguishable as their released radio versions. Muffled at best. I walked out. I will enjoy Portugal the Man’s music thru my headphones only. Too bad.

  • I think I saw Portugal the Man??

by Rydero on 11/15/23Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

The light/smoke show basically obscured them from view for the entire show with the exception of one member of the band who was further back on the stage. There was no lighting front of stage so basically the singer(s)/lead guitar was a siloette. Made for a strange experience. They never spoke except for one band member before the show. Very odd concert tbh.

  • To Talented for Gimmicks

by To Talented for Gimmicks on 11/15/23Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

We were so impressed with the band, extremely talented musicians and vocalists with an original and tight sound. We suspect this may be the last time we have the opportunity to see them in a small venue as we anticipate the interest in this band is just going to get larger and really enjoyed the concert. With that said and understanding that the fog machine and lights are their stick I think it was a little over the top and completely unneeded with their level of talent. When I go to see a band I would like to see them at one point. I would also like to see a little more engagement with the audience although I have mad respect that a band comes in a puts their heads down and bangs out a solid set that lasted almost 2 hours I would have liked to at least have them tell us who they are.

  • Studio PTM and Stage PTM are two different bands

by Maloffstrano on 11/15/23Rating: 4 out of 5

Comparing the stage band and the studio recordings, you may as well be talking about two different bands. That said, I appreciated the fact that I was at a live concert, and the band did what they felt conveyed the live concert feel of their music. I suspect some parole might not enjoy such a dramatic charge. They played non-stop, without interruption. And without revealing their faces: they were always in silhouette. No engaging the audience after the First Nations speech. It was like an album, non-stop, just different. It was a cozy venue at Grey Eagle. The extra curtains in either side of the stage force the audience to snuggle towards the stage. Much more intimate than other concerts I've been to at this venue. I'd go see them again when they return just to see how they experiment with their stage presence versus studio.

  • It's sad when you could barely see your favourite band

by buntibox on 11/14/23Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

The concert was good, really good. I liked the sound, but the light operator made a big mistake, so during the all concert you could barely see their faces. A few guys you couldn't see at all

  • Portugal. The Man - Never disappoints!

by Quagmiiller on 11/12/23Grey Eagle Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

The band rocks!! This was the 4th time seeing them and likely my favorite! Super talented band. Their original music is so good and this time they played a few covers which made the night one to remember! If you see this band coming get your tickets ASAP!

  • Terrible concert experience

by DF on 11/8/23Knitting Factory - Boise - BoiseRating: 1 out of 5

I love Portugal The Man. I’m a fan, a big fan. I’ve been to past shows and had only good things to say about their live performances. The show in Boise was a disappointment. The show started 45 minutes late. The sound was off for the first half of the show. Some of the band members forgot the lyrics to the songs. I wasn’t the only person that was disappointed. The show was sold out and many people in the audience left before the show ended. I’m not sure what went wrong, but the band let me down. Do better - don’t we deserve a concert experience we can brag about?

  • One of the worst concerts

by Betsy on 11/8/23Knitting Factory - Boise - BoiseRating: 1 out of 5

This was one of the worst concerts I've ever been to. The sound was so terrible. It kept going in and out. One minute we would just hear them yelling, and then the next it would sound like a normal concert is supposed to sound like. The instruments kept going in and out as well. They had to stop in the middle of a song so that the guitarist could tune his guitar. It was quite frustrating, to be honest. I've seen Portugal. The Man multiple times a long, long time ago when I was in high school and those shows were awesome.

  • Good overall but some issues

by Chels from AK on 11/8/23Knitting Factory - Boise - BoiseRating: 3 out of 5

There were audio issues at the beginning of the show and even after those were fixed it was hard to hear all the vocalists. The music was great but would have been better if the sound was improved. Though I've noticed this issue before at the Knitting Factory so I wonder if it a venue problem not a band problem. I loved the opening guest speaker and thought that was a wonderful addition.

  • 👎🏼 to the knitting factory

by Karl on 11/7/23Knitting Factory - Boise - BoiseRating: 1 out of 5

Sound was awful, couldn’t hear any distinct part of the music just sounded like a jumbled mess. Stage too small for the band, too cramped. Band had good energy, but should stay away from the knitting factory next time in Boise!

  • Left after the 3rd song

by Sybilicious on 8/1/23Rating: 1 out of 5

Not sure what was going on with the band, but the vibe was bad. The sound was off, couldn't hear vocals, drummer looked like he was going to pass out. They looked like they didn't want to be there. I've been to hundreds of concerts around the world and never left before the end of the concert. I left after the 4th song. The crowd was drunk and the band didn't sound like themselves. I cut my losses.

  • Rock Gods

by Katie on 8/1/23Rating: 5 out of 5

They put on a performance that front to back cannot be matched.

  • Sensory Overload

by TonyBlue on 7/30/23Rating: 1 out of 5

I applaud PtheMan's musical ambitions and performances, but the video backdrop was just too much. Maybe I needed something more hallucinogenic than the double G&T I had before the show, but two hours of relentless, quick cut, video imagery wore me down. I had to close my eyes for about the last half hour to keep my head from exploding. Our group ranged from Gen Zers to Boomers and we all agreed. The video was too much and many of the images were disturbing. I'm sure that was the point, but I question whether any of the band members have ever sat and watched this two-hour video assault in its entirety. If they did, I suspect even they would agree to dial it back. I get it. We're faced with environmental and nuclear destruction, but for heaven's sake, put some breaks in there, where we can just watch the band.

  • Disappointing

by KDW on 7/30/23Rating: 1 out of 5

This was not at all what I expected in the PTM concert. The screen images were distracting and disturbing. The music was not at all what they play on their albums. Songs were unrecognizable. I wanted to leave after 3 songs.

  • Stunning in both acoustic and visual ways

by JMBLKRBT on 7/30/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Opened by These Sacred Souls... Hailing from Alaska and I wondered what that might mean, if anything at all - With a video invite by someone who most didn't know and sharing many other influences to what has to be a top 3 show in the my last 5 years. The Venue - I lived in NYC for years and never went to it. So, relaxing and inviting. All it could do was add to the experience. Together, thank you for making it happen.

  • WAY TOO LOUD

by Jon Doe on 7/30/23Rating: 3 out of 5

Volume was way too loud for Radio City! Music was great but a little interaction with the crowd would have been nice. Would not waste my money to see them again.

  • Amazing performance

by Save the environment on 7/30/23Rating: 5 out of 5

I was really excited to go see Portugal the man and of course it was a great performance by them. Their songs are very well written and their music was top notch. Would see them again of course. Carry earplugs as the music could be a bit loud at times.

  • An epic night with PTM at Radio City

    by Josh K on 7/30/23Rating: 5 out of 5

This was my 9th time seeing Portugal. The Man, and it was easily the best. Such an incredible show, and the venue (Radio City Music Hall) lived up to its legendary status. Portugal. The Man are one of the best rock bands out there, if you like a blend of heavy psychedelia, I highly recommend checking out Portugal. The Man.

  • my fav band, but I admit. not the best live show

by Ali on 7/29/23Rating: 1 out of 5

I have been a long-time PTM fan; so many of my all-time favorite songs are actually from PTM but I am getting ahead of myself. I attended their concert at Radio City Music Hall in NY in July 2023 following their new record release and I did not like the concert as much as I was hoping to... Firstly I'd have to say that from all the great songs they have written, the choices on that night's setlist were questionable at best. they did not play bangers like Atomic Man, Modern Jesus, Creep In A T-Shirt, or Keep On. and to add to that, I did not like the fact that their setlists changed so drastically from one venue to the next during this tour - they played all those songs in their previous for example. The concert itself, I don't know, the music felt way too loud and concerningly way out of sync (the main reason for my rating): It was as if each musician had a mind of their own when playing their instrument... imagine a symphony wherein everyone is playing according to themselves, at the same time altogether - that's what it felt like at times. very messy and chaotic. Thirdly I did not like the fact that they never engaged the crowd. I have been to many shows and it always makes for a more personal, intimate, and memorable show when the singers direct the audience on what to say (for new fans) and let the crowd take over a portion of a famous song... Purple Yellow Red and Blue for example: they could have let the crowd sing the bridge after directing them to do so; but didn't. Okay in the spirit of fairness, they do play everything on stage and anything you hear is live. So big respects for them for keeping it real. hopefully next time I attend their show it wont be as bad
