About

ABOUT PORTUGAL THE MAN:

Over the past decade, Portugal The Man has established themselves as one of rock's most prized possessions and a live phenomenon, with over 1,600 shows under their belts and a storied reputation as festival favorites.

Originally heralding from Alaska, the Portland-based band - comprised of John Gourley, Zach Carothers, Kyle O'Quin, Eric Howk, Jason Sechrist and Zoe Manville - soared to new heights in 2017 with the release of their RIAA certified-gold album, Woodstock. The album was marked by the astounding success of their infectious single, "Feel It Still," which earned the group a plethora of new accolades - including a GRAMMY award for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance," a 6x RIAA platinum certified single certification, a mind-blowing 20-week residency at #1 on alternative radio, and an inescapable presence on the Top 40 airwaves.Alongside the shine of their myriad musical accomplishments lies the group's long-standing passion for social justice. In fact, this is precisely the intersection on which Portugal The Man thrives; throughout their career, the band has consistently exemplified how to deeply commit to both artistry and activism. This dynamic inspired them to officially launch their PTM Foundation in 2020, focused on universal issues related to human rights, community health, and the environment, with an emphasis on causes directly impacting Indigenous Peoples.

Their continued passion for activism has also led to recent partnerships with organizations such as the National Coalition Against Censorship, The Skatepark Project (helping communities build public skate parks for youth in underserved communities), March for Our Lives (Gun Reform), Keep Oregon Well (Mental Health), and Protect Our Winters (Climate Change), to name just a few.

  • Great band and great cause

by Driana on 3/21/22Rating: 5 out of 5

One amazing thing about this band is the fact that in every state the go to, they bring on local indigenous people to speak about their experiences before the show. It truly is amazing work that they do to actually show they care about them. Their stage presence is also awesome, and they sound just like their recording.

  • Sublime Show

by Peace on 1/5/20Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I had only seen this band previously at outdoor festivals. The Fox Oakland GA balcony was an ideal spot to see Portugal. The Man and get the full visual effects while still feeling close to the stage. Even the pop hits are good but most of their music has real depth and the sound was perfect - not too soft, not too loud. Having Chicano Batman as the opening act was an added plus plus! This was my first experience with Ticketmaster mobile only tickets that had no transfer ability at all. That ticket approach desperately needs improvement. My partner and I did not arrive together for the show. The only way he could get in was to use my Ticketmaster log in details (will call at the Fox requires the credit card used for purchase & an ID). And that just doesn't work if I was going with someone I don't know well.

  • I LOVE PORTUGAL THE MAN

    by S. on 1/3/20Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

We went to see them 3 nights in a row and had a great time. Excellent stage presence and lights/effects. Genuinely kind and caring individuals who take time to pay homage to indigenous people wherever they go!

  • Great show ! Awesome venue

PTM Rocked ! The Fox Theatre was beautiful. Sound and staff were great.

  • Wild

by Chrisocracy on 1/3/20Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

It was an amazing show. The venue had an air of elegance, the people that attended seemed hip and talkative, overall the experience was fun and the music was absolutely killer.

  • $1 per minute

by Viv on 1/3/20Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 3 out of 5

Unfortunately went to see them for New Year’s Eve. They went on a little before 11pm and off shortly after midnight. No encore. It was like they didn’t wanna be there. Essentially paid $1 per minute. Very disappointed.

  • So lame- Zero interaction with the crowd

by Leigh on 1/3/20Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 1 out of 5

They had the audacity to flash a screen up that said “hey, we don’t have much time, so were not going to interact directly with you, only through messages on this projector”. No one on stage ever addressed the audience. Seriously!? I attended this concert on New Year’s eve, and I seriously think that the real band paid people to stand up on stage and act like they were playing instruments, while the real band went to a party. You wouldn’t be able to tell if they did, since you could barely see the band members through the fog machine and all of the lights. Just listen to the album and don’t waste your money attending a concert with these guys, since it’ll be pre-recorded anyways.

  • Great New Year's Eve!

by MJ on 1/3/20Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

The venue is excellent and the bands were good. Loved the balloon drop at midnight! Had a lot of fun!

  • NYE show on 400ug of LSD

by Adamuerte on 1/3/20Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best concert I could have been at for NYE on 400ug of LSD. Portugal. The Man melted my face off! Will never miss a PMT show that comes to California.

  • Awesome Portugal the Man show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    by J. H. on 1/2/20Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Took my son and his buddy to the Portugal the Man show on Dec. 30th and was SUPER impressed with both the show and how well everything was run at the Fox Theater. The lights and AV features of their performance were AMAZING - some of the best I've ever seen. The sound was also really great...the band sounded excellent. The opener started right on time and there wasn't a big delay between bands. All of the staff at the Fox were super kind, helpful and seemed genuinely happy to be there. No long lines at the merchandise area, bathrooms or bars. We typically don't have any issues finding close by street parking either (for free). So, all in all it was a GREAT evening out. ANOTHER awesome experience at the Fox Theater! THANK YOU!

  • So-so

    by M.D. on 1/2/20Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 2 out of 5

He killed it with all the Trump hate!! So much for being "respectful of others" as he stated!! & then he sang "Feel it still" very shortly !

  • It’s fantastic area

  • Great show

by BlackMagilla on 9/26/18Blue Hills Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I always enjoy shows at Blue Hills/Boston. It is a very comfortable, laid back venue and the sound quality is good (mind you, I have always had pretty decent seats, so I can't speak to seating that is far back). Lucius was great! I usually don't even bother with opening bands because I am lazy. And old. And get bored easily these days (hey, when you get old, the fact that you have a finite time here on earth starts to hit home so you are less likely to want to waste it having your ears blown out by crappy opening bands). I really liked Lucius. Great voices. Mind you, I probably won't ever go to see them live again, but I WILL buy their music. I have seen Portugal. The Man a few times before. This show was quite different from the previous shows. In fact, they really do seem to put out a completely different vibe with every tour. I like it. If you are standing still you aren't moving forward. I might not agree with all of their choices, but I do enjoy their daring. Also, I love how they constantly poke fun at themselves and don't take themselves too seriously. They sounded great and put on a really long set. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't play some of my old favorites, but I was also pretty happy about some less popular songs that they DID play ("Atomic Man", "Hip Hop Kids"). As part of this tour, PTM did this thing where they reached out to local Native American tribes and allowed them some stage time in between sets. The Native Americans could do whatever they want, speak about current issues, put on a performance, or whatever. I really liked this. It wasn't long enough to be boring or too "in your face", but it was just long enough to make you think about these issues and perhaps do a little research on your own. Bottom line: great show!

  • So damn rockin'!

by AdamandJohnsMom on 9/26/18Blue Hills Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Love Portugal. The Man on their recordings and televised performances. They have a great vibe and a unique combination of sing-ability while intimately grabbing your mind with their sound layers and lyrics. Then you see them live... BOOM! Totally rocking power from the start. You knew, even though it was the last show of a LONG tour, the band was totally ramped-up and delivered intensity and music mix-ups that were fantastic. Two moments had me wrapped around their little fingers: The Rolling Stone's "Give Me Shelter" refrain in the middle of "Purple, Yellow, Red and Blue", and the screen shot letting the audience know that, "Your Mom loves this song" as a way to announce, "Feel It Still"; had me laughing out loud! P.S. I'm the mom and my son was with me at the show... he rolled his eyes! A fantastic show to close out the season at a fantastic venue!

  • Meh...

by Aviatio on 9/26/18Blue Hills Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

Very visual show. Band is good, but the music doesn’t really move you. There’s nothing memorable about the musical performance that stays with you. Kind of “jammy” at points, but nothing that really moves your soul and makes you feel inspired. Whatever though...that’s just my opinion. I’m sure plenty of people enjoy it.

  • PTM

by Sadd1013 on 9/26/18Blue Hills Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Good show. They sounded great. Awesome venue to see a show in boston.

  • Lucius was great! Portugal was ho hum

by Jeanniechilibeanie on 9/26/18Blue Hills Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

Lucius delivered beautiful heartfelt music and honored the audience’s investment. Portugal was acting disaffected and uninspired. The screen projections were dumb, snarky attempts at humor that made fun of fan’s enthusiasm and showed juvenilely weirdish images that were silly yet depressing. I would not waste money on any Portugal show in the future.

  • The best band ever. Ever. Ever

by Jaaeraae on 9/21/18Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

I love Portugal. The man. They are the best band of all time. Better than Elvis. Better than the Beatles. Better than every band ever

  • Portugal the Man is a great band to see in person

by Anonymous72818 on 9/21/18Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre - CharlotteRating: 4 out of 5

The instrumentals were fantastic. I never realized how good this band really is having only heard their top hits on the radio. Brought back memories of the early 70's music. Great show. The quality of the sound was excellent, unlike some live performances. If you get a chance to see this band in a small venue do it. Probably would be good in a large arena too but there was something about the mood in the smaller venue that made this even better.

  • PTM Rocked It - I was Live'n the moment

by JoNoSW on 9/4/18Deer Lake Park - BurnabyRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen a hundred concerts, but I really liked this one. Its not that they were louder or had a huge stage show but it was exactly perfect for a summer's night party in the park. I'm not from Vancouver so I was thrilled to catch them LIVE. One regret, missing them at Red Rocks in Colorado!
